Motorola Droid :: Shutting Down And Rebooted?
Jan 13, 2010
Did anyone's phone reboot this morning just while it was sitting there? I looked over around 7am CST and the phone was shutting down and rebooted. The version 2.01 is the same, but wondering if something was pushed out overnight or this morning. I can't find anything that changed (app-wise) so just wondering if it was a fluke or if something did change.

Phone was not plugged into a charger and it just randomly reset on it's own. I was playing a game and from the corner of my eye I seen the Motorola logo so it was turning back on.

Was getting ready to install the edited build.prop. I had renamed the old one to build.prop.bak, and somehow managed to restart the phone without putting a new one in. The phone stays at the M screen, and I can get into the standard recovery. Is there anyway I can push a new build.prop file through standard recovery? The only thing I have tried to do is reapply the 2.2 update.zip I was running, which didn't work due to signature verification failure.

I am trying to install a rom (Liquid Frozen Yogurt) onto my Motorola Droid. I rebooted, came back and there is a strange symbol on the screen. It is a triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle, and it is standing upright staring down at my phone laying flat. I'm not sure if it's working away, or if this is some problem.

I'm on the stock rooted frg22d rom because of complications earlier and for some reason my phone randomly rebooted. I though nothing of it. But now when I rebooted. I only have 2 apps for some reason, Paper toss and Redbox Codes FWIW. So I tried to load a nandroid and I can't get into recovery. It just stays on the M and if I let it sit there then it would get into a bootloop on a stock non-overclocked rom. So yeah. Oh and my sister took administrator from my account so I can't use RSD Lite to non root and root again.

Well I finally screwed around with my phone untill I messed it up. I rooted yesterday with Visionary. No problem then deodexed no problem. Well I have evidently rebooted and wiped the usr data and done a factory reset. However it says I'm still rooted. It seems like I'm half rooted. How do I get this baby back to fully rooted.

Is it possible to keep the 3G radio off? I bought SwitchPro and turned off the radio last night but it's back on this morning. If I can't keep it off, I'll have to return SwitchPro (since I bought it specifically for that purpose).

I went to make a call and my Droid was off. I had checked email on it about two hours prior and had 80% battery life. When I got home I plugged it into the charger and nothing. Hit the power button, still nothing. Finally took out the battery and put it back in while still on the charger and finally it turned back on, with about the same battery life it had when I checked my email.
Then I tried to make a phone call and it simply would not make the call. I killed all tasks and tried again with no luck. Then the same text came through eight times. I turned the phone off and on again and the problem persisted. Finally about a half an hour later after leaving the phone alone, it seemed to be working fine. Made calls, texts, etc with no problems. An hour after that the phone shut off again. I had to take out the battery and put it back in again, and after about ten minutes it was working normally. This was about an hour ago.

I am running Nexbeast 1.1 fabs release clocked at 1.25ghz and I've dropped my phone maybe 4-5 times. None of them were big falls but the 3rd or 4th time I dropped it and all the times after that it has turned off. Anyways, whenever I do something for an extended period of time on my phone It freezes up. Seriously even if I'm only on it for 10 minutes. I can't do much without having this problem at least 1-2 times a day. Is their any fix to this? I don't recall it doing this on 2.1 builds. Could that be it?

just received my X about two weeks ago. I love it. It is way better than my old BB Storm. So far I have only found one issue that I can't seem to resolve. It seems that from time to time my external speaker just stops working for media files. The ringer will still work as will any alerts, but if I try to play a YouTube file there is no sound. A reboot of the unit will fix this, but I am wondering if this is a know glitch or if I might have an app that is causing this. I tried searching for this topic but the only thing that comes up is a thousand threads complaining about the sound level.

I was wondering what kind of knowledge you guys have about the LI-ION batteries in this badboy. I see a lot of conflicting things online, and from what I gather...you shouldn't be charging overnight, and you shouldn't frequently do full cycle discharge. So, what is the best practice? Charging semi frequently and shutting it off at night? I dislike this because I use the phone as an alarm, and don't want to wake up with the battery starting at 90 for the day.
Also, if you're not supposed to charge overnight (which i've done with many other phones and they were fine), then if I do get the media dock...it would charge overnight every night as my alarm clock.... isn't that bad for the battery? I'm just concerned about ruining my battery, what have you guys heard, and what effects have you seen?

It's "booting up" even though I haven't even touched it. Seem's like it rebooted itself. Then once it's up I get no Cell signal at all. Wifi worked but no Cell Signal. As a test I tried making a call to confirm and it says something like "Phone not registered" I now reboot the phone myself, and it's ok now.

Occasionally when I wake my phone up the 3g mobile network has shut itself off. It will come back automatically in a few seconds of waking the phone up, but for some reason, it's turning off while asleep. I've noticed this with my wifi as well.
I caught this problem because my Gmail has been arriving to my pc, but not my phone. This doesn't happen all the time, but it seems to be happening more lately.

My 2.2 DINC with lastest OTA (been over a couple of weeks) while plugged in as usual overnight, announced "DROID". I looked over and the phone had obviously rebooted itself. This is the only time this has happened to my DINC. I don't find anything out of the ordinary on the phone. Any clues why it would reboot itself without being asked?

I registered with QIK and began using my Evo with it. Suddenly I had issues opening the application. Rebooted etc. Still no change, couldn't open QIK at all.
When into Apps and deleted all files, accounts etc. My think was I'd just re-register. Well it says "Name, phone #, email already in use"
New user name, no problem.
Different email address, no problem
Different phone number, what to do ?
No issues with anything else with this phone, batter etc.

I was talking on the phone, and another call came in (call waiting). Suddenly, my phone just restarted itself. Fortunately the reboot time is very fast, but of all the bugs to possibly run into on any cell phone, the scariest is the idea of dropping calls. I am convinced this may be a software glitch that will get fixed with an update.

I tried the one click root on my fascinate. It was successful and the phone rebooted. After it started up, it kept making noise like it was ringing and wouldn't stop. Also now when I send texts, it will send them but it wont show them in the screen. Also the browser says page not available and every time I download from the market it says download failed. Also I have no 3G connection and time is wrong.

If I could hit 1000 hours without rebooting and I was able to. Some thoughts...
1. Unless I forgot how a freshly rebooted phone feels, it feels no different
2. I did have a few random reboot type actions but the counter never reset. Not sure what it was about
3. Browser loves to crash or just lock up which I then had to force close and restart it. I blame this on an online game I play that is not optimized very well as I have to restart chrome on my work computer after a time as it eats all the memory.
Other then that, phone works perfectly

the only way that the battery charges is with the phone off. Last nite left it on the charger, powered on and this AM the battery is 30%. Anyone else having this problem? Seems to me that it then makes the car charger useless as well.

Well good news is I woke up this morning to the update!! Sweet...Or so I thought, Long story short I let it do it things while I was getting ready this morning (30min) and it seemed to work fine (Not 100% sure, wasn't really looking at my phone while driving), then all of a sudden on my ride to work it caught my eye and reset itself, No biggie, then again and again and again...and you guessed it AGAIN!! it won't stop resetting itself! I tried to take out the battery but that didn't work and I'm not going to do the "hard reset" until I show Verizon what it's doing....So has anyone else had this problem after receiving the newest update?

I have two apps that take advantage of GPS. The recommendation of the SDK is for setting up the location listener is to set time at 60000ms or 1 minute. My tests show if you use that number when exiting the app it may not shutdown GPS. Even using the call to stop location updates when onStop is called doesn't necessary help. In fact one test app doesn't have that call and may shut down anyway on exit. When the number is reduced (as in some examples I found online) to 100 ms then it usually always shuts down. IOW, the satellite icon disappears as it should. I've read some posts here and elsewhere but this issue seems to still be open.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I would think the 1 minute update might be appropriate for a program that will stay open for awhile. My users may only look at the program temporarily and not need updates over a long time. So I'm thinking of leaving the value at 100 ms which seems to work.
