Motorola Droid X :: How To Root Phone Using Universal Androot?
Aug 21, 2010How to: Root the DROID X Using Universal Androot
Universal Androot is one of the newer 1-click methods to rooting a whole lineup of devices and one of them happens to be the Droid X. We had been holding out a little on posting this until there were methods available for creating backups using something like Clockwork Recovery and since Koush just released that option, it was time.
*Note 1* This needs to be done before updating to android 2.2. This method does not currently work on droid x froyo. Instructions *Warning*. Just a reminder that rooting VOIDS your warranty and could potentially do permanent damage to your device. This is not a recommended practice and you do so at your own risk.
1. Download and install Universal Androot to your Droid X: Download Link
2. Open it and tap the Root button.
3. Your phone will now run through a series of commands.
4. When it finishes, it will tell you that you are rooted.
5. Reboot your phone and BAM!Rooted Droid X.

Oct 30, 2010I understand the whole rooting thing, but i can not find an app that will do my phone. I have the Motorola Droid (original) with the 2.2 update that just come out a couple months ago. I tried the Universal Androot and it said "failed" when I tried to root the phone with it. Then I heard about Easy Root in the market, but searched the market and its not there. Also wanting to do the nandroid backup so I can reinstall my current settings just in case and can not find anything to do that either.....

Sep 21, 2010I've been on the fence forever with rooting my x. Been lurking your forum for awhile now among others. reading up. Just scared i'll mess my phone up and have to buy another. I'm sure you deal with people like me daily. Anyways, I'm going to wait for the official 2.2 to come out, then worry about rooting. My question is, If I would use androot and koush's backup, and only used trustworthy roms that people post on forums like this, with positive feedback. do i really have to worry about bricking my phone?

Apr 1, 2010I hate that the volume control rocker changes both ringer volume and media volume. Is there a method to make a universal volume control? When I listen to podcasts using listen, I hate to have to wait for the podcast to start before I can adjust the media volume.....any suggestions?

Aug 26, 2010I can call people directly from my computer with GV (new Gmail integration), I'm really considering telling all my friends to use my new GV number. Right now some of them have my GV number but never call it, just my regular cell number. How did some of you make your friends use the GV number instead of your old one? Maybe I should just steal all their phones when they go to the bathroom or something and program it in myself? I'm wondering if it will add any extra charges through their cell plan. I picked a number that doesn't have an area code of where I actually live, it's actually a city about 4 hours away. That's the main thing I'm worried about, I don't want them to have to have any additional fees when they call/text my GV number.

Mar 10, 2010I wrote about this earlier, I had an issue when making a call the screen stays off and I cannot access the keypad or anything while on a call when I remove the phone from my ear. I had this happen again today, but noticed it went away when I took the call indoors. This seems to be an issue when I make a call outdoors, maybe it is the bright sunlight, but the screen refuses to come back on when i am on a call outside. I had to use the keypad to make selections on a call today but was unable to since the screen stayed off. Have others noticed this happening in bright light calls outside? Also, what can be done to correct this?

Jan 12, 2010Not sure how to fix this, but several times when I make a call and try to end it, the screen stays off and I cannot hit the END CALL button. This has happened a few times when I dialed the wrong number and wanted to just end the call before it connected, but when I flipped the phone back over from my ear it stayed off and the call kept going. Also, sometimes it will flash on for an instant then go back off again, still cannot end the calls.

Feb 20, 2010Any way to use the Droid to make calls over WiFi as opposed to the VZW network? I have terrible coverage at my house, and would like to just use my WiFi connection. I would need to be able to go over WiFi but still be considered a Verizon Wireless call, as I call a lot of people with Verizon and take advantage of the free calling to Verizon customers. I don't see why Verizon wouldn't take advantage of something like this, it would only take strain off of their network if some users are connecting on their WiFi networks.

Well I'm trying to put busybox on my droid. I've got it on there but I'm having problems with making a directory on my phone, which I need to do to continue.
Anyway, what's happening is, ill put in mkdir /system/xbin and it returns "mkdir failed. Read only filesystem." This is after Ive already launched busybox. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.
