Motorola Droid X :: Grainy Picture Quality Of Camera In Low Light?

Oct 7, 2010

I am extremely happy with my DX. My only complaint is the quality of the camera in low light. Every picture I take looks grainy. At times the flash washes everything out. I know it's just a camera and I shouldn't expect much, but for such a great device that does everything else, it's a bit of a bummer. I've been looking at low light photos from the SF and they appear to be worlds apart. Does anyone have any hints to get decent looking photos in low light?

Motorola Droid :: Big Jump In Video Quality With Sholes

Feb 10, 2010

I wasn't having much luck with the video recording, but saw a thread on how to improve the quality with a few modifications. Thread here: http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/39706-higher-quality-video-recording.html. It suggested that I change the bps from 300,000 to 800,000. I couldn't really figure out how to do it, so I never did. I eventually installed the Sholes ROM from the Market and noticed an instant improvement in video quality. I checked my Astro file, (in the system/build file as in the link posted above), and noticed that it is now set to 900,000 bps, rather than 300,000 obviously this was changed automatically by the Sholes ROM. Just another confirmation that the Sholes was a great decision, for me at least. Here's a couple of videos to show the difference. This is a breakfast/storage room and my dog, Riley, who never knows exactly how to behave in front of the camera.

Motorola Droid X :: Video Quality Has Been Tremendously Bad Since The Update

Jul 21, 2010

Has anyone else experienced this? I got the dead pixels on the camera after the update as well, but now there seems to be a red tint in video mode and well, the video doesn't seem very "HD" to me.

Here's an example:

Motorola Droid : Higher Quality Video Recording

Jan 27, 2010

I did not see any other open threads on this; there is a very simple system edit you can perform to record video @ 8 mbps, up from the default 3 mbps. This is from a reliable source. Works very well. Root access is required and, of course, be sure to backup everything before you try anything.

The Droid compresses recorded videos (which results in blurriness and some blocking), so today I started poking around the system files and found this line in build.prop:

Code:
ro.media.enc.hprof.vid.bps=3000000

Which basically means video is compressed at a fixed rate of 3Mbps. I didn't think it would work, but I went ahead and changed the value to 8Mbps:

Code:
ro.media.enc.hprof.vid.bps=8000000

Rebooted and shot a test video. Lo and behold, the video is now recorded at 8mbps, resulting in a MUCH crisper image!

To apply the fix, you need root access. Simply edit that line in your /system/build.prop file. You can pull the file from adb, edit it, and push it back, or mount the /system partition as read-write and edit the file with Astro.

Edit: For the more adventurous users, here's another tip: I've been tinkering with the rest of the video settings in build.prop and comparing the resulting videos. So far, the best setting I have found is actually using MPEG-4 SP instead of H.264, 8 Mbps bitrate, and 30 frames per second. The phone chokes at 30 fps in H.264 mode, but does a pretty good job with MPEG-4 SP, and at that bitrate, the image quality is still very good regardless of the codec. The pertinent settings are "ro.media.enc.hprof.codec.vid" for the codec ("h264" for H.264 and "m4v" for MPEG-4 SP) and "ro.media.enc.hprof.vid.fps" (you can choose anything from 1 to 30)

Motorola Droid :: Change Default Video Quality In YouTube

Jan 13, 2010

I never watch YouTube videos in anything other than high quality. But the only way I can see to change the quality is via the menu on a per-video basis. It defaults to the lesser quality, which is REALLY crappy!
Is there some way to change the default to play videos in the best quality?

And also, what's to gain by playing them in the lesser quality? Bandwidth? Battery conservation? Load time? For a phone with such a magnificant display size & resolution, I can't imagine why anyone would want to view videos in anything but the best quality possible.

Motorola Droid X :: Camers Videos Are GRAINY , Pictures Blurry / Fix It?

Aug 19, 2010

Is the video camera/camera of the Droid X HORRIBLE. Videos are VERY GRAINY, Pictures are blurry, I have tried every setting possible, I am on 8MP for camera and 720p for hd. Any chance there is a way to fix it? I have seen other peoples video and they are MUCH better than mines. And people said the Droid 1 camera was bad (which I had) this is awful.

HTC EVO 4G :: Audio Quality (Worse) On Video Recordings

May 28, 2010

I've been trying to digest every possible piece of information I can on the Evo, and have been very anxious to get one on June 4th. But something I'm finding very little info or comments on is how terrible the audio quality is on video recordings. It's surprisingly very bad. The video quality is looking good, but that makes the bad audio just that much worse. I've noticed this on every sample video I've checked out on You Tube. It seems that it is slightly better on the Incredible, but still pretty sub-par. If you watch video recorded from the Motorola Droid or iPhone, you can hear what a difference it is. Is this just a HTC thing, or is it something that can be adjusted?

HTC EVO 4G :: Audio Quality Jerky When Taking Video

Jul 6, 2010

Frankly, I'm fine with the video quality. It could be a lot better but I don't use my phone for anything serious. The audio quality is horrid. I pulled a video into MediaCoder to find out why. That is 12.8kbps at 8,000hz sampling rate. To put this in perspective; A low quality MP3 is 64kbps at 44.1khz (44,100hz). That is 5 times the bit rate and more than 5 times the sampling rate.

A decent quality MP3 is at the very least 128kbps. The audio that the Evo camcorder app is 1/5th the quality of a crappy MP3. This is a rather simple software fix. I'm not a programmer but I know how audio and video codecs work and I see no reason for this limitation. The phone can record excellent quality audio. Just download a recording app and try it. HTC or a third party developer needs to get on this. The reason the video is a bit jerky is that it is recorded at 10.01 FPS...

HTC EVO 4G :: How Froyo Update Camera / Video Quality?

Jun 11, 2010

I remarked to my wife that the video shot with my new EVO looked like home movies from when we were kids. I then saw that the EVO shoots at 24 fps which explains the home movie video look. Will/can the Froyo update improve the video and or camera quality? It's not a deal breaker but when you have kids it's nice to have a video camera with you at all times. I've got 3 more weeks left on my 30 day trial period. I know the i Phone 4 will shoot at 30 fps and the test images I've seen are considerably better than my EVO.

HTC EVO 4G :: Watching Movies With Good Quality Video And Sound?

I'm going on a trip soon and wanted to put some movies on my phone. I found some DVD ripping software, ripped The Dark Knight as MPEG4, and was thrilled when I saw the picture- it looked fantastic. Then I put my headphones in. Where's my sound?

Before this, I had the movie The Book of Eli on my computer, MPEG4. I put that on my phone- sound, but not video. Converted to H.263, got both, but video was terrible quality. Near unwatchable. Should I try converting to a different format? I mean, there has to be some way to get good quality video.
