View 22 RepliesI've read everything I can find and been watching these threads for over a month but I'm still nervous about it.I keep telling myself far more people are successful at this than have problems even though the boards are filled w/ sometimes panicked people.I plan on going the manual route vs the one click route so that I can get a good feel for what exactly is happening when and where.I'm gonna reread a few more things just to be sure I've got it down and then start the process tomorrow am.I'll post when I'm successful - and hopefully not before w/ some problem or other

Is there gonna be new features with this update like better predictive txting, better word selection, swiping through photos, etc.. or is it just gonna fix the "known issues" I really hope so, just because it will make this phone THAT much better! what do you guys think?
I am debating whether to get the Desire on T-Mobile from Mobile phones direct or from Phones4U on Orange
Know i live in Liverpool and done think anyone would know what these Networks are like 2g/3g/H etc here? If not who is the better generaly?
So far my Hero is pretty good, and I LOVE Sprint's service (I had AT&T and regularly dropped calls. I have not had a single dropped call since I switched to Sprint) and prices. However, my biggest complaint about the phone is the lag. It's such a slow phone.I mean, for most usage it's fine. But often when I'm trying to bang out a text or email, the keyboard lags a lot. Sometimes it thinks I'm still holding down the delete key and ends up deleting everything I wrote unless I stop it. The thing takes forever to switch to landscape. And using the music player makes the phone even worse (not to mention the music player just kinda sucks... I think I'm gonna get a Zune HD). So will 2.0 address these issues? Or is this a limitation of the comparatively old hardware in the phone? I want to love this phone, but when I can get a more mature Blackberry that's not as laggy and has a hardware keyboard, it's hard to do so. Droid looks nice but VZW is expensive, AT&T sucks, and T-Mo is cheap but has very little 3G coverage.

Motorola Droid - Original
1. Rooted 2.1, then
2. OTA Stock Update to 2.2, then
3. Seem to have lost root, However - I still have the Superuser Permissions Icon.
I use Barnacle for WiFi Tether - I get a "Permission Denied" error when I try to start the application. I also went into the terminal emulator and tried an "su" which also gave a permission denied response. I tried "sudo" and also got permission denied response. Others have told me this is common with this progression of events. However, How do I now ROOT 2.2 in this scenario?
I just rooted my stock froyo with it! If this has already been discussed.
View 42 Replies View RelatedI used DroidMod to root when I had 2.01. When 2.1 became available, I "un-rooted" then forced update to 2.1. Well to be honest, it is really slow and laggy. I now want to go back to DroidMod, but nothing I have tried seems to work.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to gain root and having some problems...
I had my droid rooted for some time, running droid mod 1.0. All was well until recently the battery life turned to shit (followed all guides to resolve recent OTA update issues, but still shitty.) Because of this, I decided I would go back to stock, since I couldn't justify the rom's features if the battery would kick out after 16 hours. So I returned to stock no problem and received the OTA to upgrade to 2.1.
After getting the upgrade to 2.1, I wanted to at least have root access to run a few programs. I followed this guide:
http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/63010-how-install-sprecovery-unrooted-2-1-ota.html
to get SPRecovery back on my phone. Everything went well, it all checked out. After that I used SPRecovery to install the root update.zip. This worked fine, the root access app is in my tray and everything seems to be fine... HOWEVER when opening programs that require root access (setcpu and adfree are the ones I've tried) they say I don't have root access. I have tried reinstalling the update.zip file to no luck. USB debugging is ON. Is there a special update.zip to gain root on 2.1 (I saw no posts about that)? Is there some setting I missed this time around that I didn't the first time I rooted?
I have the Droid should I wait for 2.1 and then root or root now?

View 8 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to root the Droid prior to activating it (you know, doing the *228 thing to be able to actually make calls and use data)? My wife's new Droid just arrived and I'm planning to put JRummy's Pink Froyo on for her. Thought it might be nice to have it done prior to her getting home from work. I'll obviously still be signing in with her google account and I have wifi at home should I need to access any data. But she needs her current phone right now and activating this new one would in turn deactivate the one she has with her.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I just rooted my x with the help of d13. I don't know much about what I can do or how to do it. What apps do you have and which are worth paying for? Any good rom's you've installed? Currently I'm running 2.2 with flyx
So I had Pete's virgin 2.2 release on my phone, ran fine, full root access.
Sapphire 7.0 was released, so what the heck, I formatted system/cache, and installed.
But...lost root somehow. No SU app, no access.
Applied su.zip in Recovery to regain access. Didn't work...
Applied it a few more times, rebooted...nada.
Wiped system/cache and installed CM6 Alpha 3...no root. Applied su.zip, still no su app, no root.
Nandroided back to my backup of Pete's virgin 2.2 release. Root.
Wiped system/cache, installed CM6 Alpha 3, no root.
W-T-F?
Never seen this before...always wipe system/cache before a new ROM, never lost root before.
Really appreciate any suggestions...I have access to CW recovery.
Don't understand how flashing a rooted ROM could leave me w/out root access, or why installing an su zip doesn't add SU back in.
Is it possible to ROOT your Droid after the 2.2 Verizon update? If so, is there a link for it? Is it the same process as before?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to root after the OTA 2.1 update yet?
Sorry, I had my noob goggles on this morning and accidentally applied the OTA update after I did the baseband update so now I've lost root. I know, I know... that update file should never have been on my sd card to start with.
I did a backup with ROMmanager prior to these updates, but can't do anything with it now. Just need to root again so life can continue.
Im new to this. I just got my droid yesterday, but Im no idiot when it comes to computers. I even did some adb commands for the first time ever late last night.(they mostly failed )I followed instructions in another thread on how to install sprecovery on a 2.1 OTA phone without rolling it back to 2.0.1 So Right now I have 2.1 OTA phone with SPRecovery. My question is what do I do next ? Install a custom Rom? I understand there is no way yet to root the 2.1 OTA. ( I found a couple posts on how do so but the update.zips did nothing for me)IF installing a custom ROM is the answer then can someone help me with that? will it install on my phone that has 2.1 OTA with SPRecover? what is a good ROM? I dont want something thats gonna lessen my GPS as I have read some roms do. Most of all Idont want to Brick my phone.btw I love this droid and Im excited to be on the android forums

I've been reading about deodexing, ROMs, Themes etc. Alot of this is for the OTA 2.2 which I find in my searches. All this requires root, which I am now prepared to do.
Is this the best way/most current way to root the 2.3.9?
