Dec 2, 2009Today I finally went down to Best Buy to go and exchange my phone. The guy who did it was glad to do so. I was able to keep my same SD card. After the process was finished (in which I also bought a new car mount), I proceeded to browse the rest of the store.
I went and sat in the Studio room for a while to play with the phone, I noticed it had a loose screen. It was a very slight movement, but highly noticeable. The thing would kind of 'tap' every time I hit the back button. With the phone closed, you could push or sandwich the 2 parts together and see it smush and retract. I'm telling you it was very small but noticeably or else i would not be typing about this. My dusty phone that I had just exchanged, purchased on the launch day, was never loose and never 'tapped'.
Now I was debating for about 30 minutes weather I should go and try and get another one or not.
After a while I started obsessing over it and was making my screen go tappity tap tap tap......so I decided to go back and see about exchanging the phone. I hadn't even left the store yet.
There was a new guy at the counter, and I told him my issue. He pulled out 2 more boxed phones and also his own Droid from his pocket. He told me his did that too, and then we started comparing the phone i had to the new ones. I found on that didn't tap or wobble or anything. I asked if I could get that one and he said he had to go ask his manager. So he went and came back and said his manager told him that it isn't a defective phone and they cant return it. Then I said "what about if you showed him both of these phones?" You could very obviously tell that this new one was much tighter than the one I had got. So he said he would try, and went and asked his manager again. He came back and told me his manager wouldn't let him and that he says "all of them will eventually become loose." Almost exactly. Then I asked if I could talk to the manager.
I am not one to cause a scene but this was making me mad. I wasn't getting loud or anything but I was trying to get a different answer than "no". So the manager comes and starts saying bulls**t about how the slider mechanism needs room and that's how all slider phones are blah blah. This was the same guy who sold me the phone on launch day. I tried to explain to him that my old phone i had exchanged due to tons of dust under the screen was never loose and has been TIGHT since I bought it on launch day. He then showed me on the new phone I wanted to get that it also clicks, if you press on the OTHER side of the phone by the search key. I kept trying to convince him that it is RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM. The phone I had been given is LOOSE and the one I want is NOT. But I wasn't successful. He wouldn't change his mind no matter what. I told him I'd rather have my old phone back and he said he could do that. Then he got out my old phone because it was still there and he tried to convince ME that it was clicking on the search key side. I was so mad. He wouldn't give me another new phone but he would give me my old defective one back.
Somewhere in this conversation he also made a comment about "because you keep your phone in your pocket" referring to the dust under the glass on my old phone. Are you f*****g kidding me? Who doesn't put their phone in their POCKET???
anyway, I kept the phone I was given with the "tap" screen. When the slider is open, the screen also rocks forward and back a tiny noticeable amount.My dusty phone that I returned had no wobble or "tap" at all. I swear I am not lying. I felt really bad after he turned me down after I tried all I could to prove him wrong.
Sorry this was so long but I had to share... I plan on going to a different best buy and trying again, this time maing sure I check which phone they give to me. Or I might just snap my droid in two and go and return it for a new one. I have the Black Tie warranty thing. If anybody actually reads this whole story, what do you think I should do? And am I in the wrong here? This guy basically made me feel like an a**hole for even asking about it.
EDIT: wow and I just realised that the speaker on the back of my phone is totally DENTED. I am starting to question weather Best Buy are actually selling used droids as new....

I figured it was because I was running LP at that time, so I switched to another launcher and then tried to uninstall LP, but could not find it.So I have LP, I just can't install it. LauncherPro 0.8 doesn't install correctly i take it.So i cannot access the homescreen settings to uninstall 0.7 because of the silly update message.Any ideas?
Motorola Droid :: Shortcuts Gone After Installing Rom?
Mar 18, 2010I like to keep several direct dial and direct message shortcuts on my home screen, but after installing a new ROM (in this case BB 0.8), the shortcuts are gone. It's not the biggest deal, but if I could find a way to preserve them for easy restoration when I update, that'd be great.

Nov 21, 2009I came from a BB and I had all the important shortcut keys memorized so that I could open them instantly. Is there a way to do this with the Droid? I don't like having to do two key combos or having to switch to the home screen and/or app screen. Plus, I don't like to have a lot of clutter on my home screen.Naturally, this would only work whilst using the physical keyboard but hen I'm browsing the web or talking on gtalk, I might think of something and want to quickly bring up a notepad app to write down some notes.I know that it's nit-picking, but I like to be quick and efficient with my phone. Oct 16, 2010The calendar app opens. It shows the headers (month, year and days) but no grid or date numbers. I can enter appointments and they sync OK but the display still does not work.

Motorola Droid X :: Conflict Between LauncherPro And WidgetLocker?
Aug 15, 2010Today I rebooted my phone and LauncherPro got stuck starting, only displaying a window in the top left corner, like it couldn't finish rendering the preview screen, and it never starts on that anyway. I was totally stuck without access to the menu buttons but still had the notification for WidgetLocker, so I was able to get to that, unlock it, restart the Moto launcher, and disable WidgetLocker. Now that it's disabled, I seem to be able to make LauncherPro my home again, but it looks like I'll have to disable WidgetLocker, which I really liked.Not sure what else could be causing the problem - probably something to do with WidgetLocker's home launcher sub-app.

Sep 21, 2010All of those with Launcher Pro Plus, check out the update. I bought the Pure Messenger widget strictly to have an integrated Facebook/Twitter feed. I am strictly an idle browser of both feeds - that is, I don't take them very seriously and just scroll through them occasionally. Consequently, I have no need for advanced tools, just an updating feed that I can peruse once in a while. Now LPP has a "friends" widget that is not only a free update to the app, but is faster and smoother than the Pure Messenger widget.
Also, LPP now has customizable rows/columns so you can set as many rows/columns as you want on the homescreens. This is super convenient because I always thought there should have been 5 columns on the homescreens.
Motorola Droid :: Stopping BB V0.4 From Killing LauncherPro?
Jul 25, 2010I think, because of it's memory management, BB v0.4 keeps killing LauncherPro on me so that when I go back to my homescreen, LauncherPro needs to reload itself. Is there anyway to specifically exclude LauncherPro from being killed by BB? I know it's not another task killed b/c I don't have any others installed.

Jul 21, 2010I replaced a lot of the .png's in Ander Webb's ADW.Launcher and resigned it, so it is installable. It should look a lot more like the stock Blur launcher, but with much better performance

Aug 15, 2010I'm having a problem with the launcherpro + calendar widget. When I add an event by selecting a day in the future, it opens an agenda but the start/end date is always the current date. Anybody else with a DX have this problem? Am I doing something wrong? Or is this a known issue that will be fixed in the future? I checked the LP forum and didn't see this issue.

Oct 4, 2010Before my current setup I was using CyanogenMod and their custom version of LauncherPro. It had been updated with new icons, which were similar in shape to the defaults, but had much more detail and color/shading to give them a slight 3D effect.
Well, recently I switched to Dew's smoked glass ROM and was getting stuck in never ending loops with a message stating my current version of LauncherPro had "expired" and I had to finally remove it and DL the current app store version. Ok so thats fine, except its so boring now... function-wise its as awesome as ever but its just so BLAH.
I am looking for icon packs that I might be able to use with the new version of LP, but it seems none of them on the app store have preview images. I am trying to get it to look like this. If you know of a similar icon pack.

Jul 19, 2010Currently using Launcher Pro. I have two separate email accounts with my ISP, Bresnan. With all my previous android phones I've been able to set up desktop shortcuts to each account so they can be checked separately. With the X, I cannot seem to do this. The email shortcut does not allow me to specify an account, and just shows the default account. I'd really like to continue to use my old system of two account shortcuts.

Without the thing turning into a trash can, almost every time I tried to place one there, it would vanish. I literally had to have it 2 pixels under the above row or it wouldn't take. Aug 21, 2010I have a rooted 2.2 DX, and on 2.1 when I got a new text it would jump to the top of the list with a blue dot next to it. Now ever since I upgraded to 2.2 I still get the blue dot next to my unread text messages but it doesn't jump to the top of the list. I don't know if that is just how froyo works now or if it's an issue just on my phone.
