Motorola Droid X :: Mount System - Mount Data
Oct 31, 2010
So I'm pretty new to rooting. On some themes or roms they require me to Mount System and Mount Data. I have clockwork recovery installed and when I select the option Mount System, it just acts like i didn't select anything. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I do not like windshield suction cup mounts when using a GPS in my car.
I always used a dashboard beanbag mount with my Garmin GPS.
I just bought the Droid X Car Mount and I can now use my Garmin beanbag with it by inserting the ball joint into the back of Droid X car mount - fit's perfectly.

Is it possible to mount an external USB thumb drive to access its data from a file browser on the phone? I tried plugging one of my USB drives into a USB-to-microUSB adapter and plugging that into the phone, but it didn't mount anywhere.

When the (HTC Desire) phone is powered up it is unable to mount the SD card, and I am unable to have it mounted from the "Settings > SD card & Storage" menu. Having said that, the micro SD card can be accessed from a computer (when plugged in directly to the computer, i.e. no issue with the card), and moreover, when I am in the recovery mode, I can have it mounted and browse it. By the way, the card could be accessed from the phone until I downgraded the O/S, and managed to have it rooted.
When the phone is running normally, and connected to the USB port of a laptop, the laptop does recognize a device connected (can even do ADB), but I believe because the SD card is not mounted, the phone does not offer the option to make the card appear as a disk drive for computer access.
I am running the original (RUU, Telstra) Android 2.2 (2.26.841.2) on a HTC desire, after I had it "S-OFF'ed". After reloading the original 2.2, I had it rooted.
The micro SD card is a 2GB one, with approx 1.5GB formatted as FAT16 (contains typical file and photos), and 0.5 GB as EXT3 (contains nothing at the moment).
HBoot: 6.93.1002
S-Off ( Revolutionary)
Recovery mode: ClockworkMod v5.0.2.0 (I manually loaded it)
I have searched online for solutions, and have not been able to have it fixed. Others seem to have different issues to that of mine. Usually, they cannot mount the SD-card at all (not even from recovery), or their SD card just needed to be reformatted. I think I have indicated that these do not appear to be relevant to my issue at all. I have also tried "Fastboot oem enableqxdm 0", and it made no difference.

So after a failed attempt to upgrade from CyanogenMod 10.1.3 to 10.2, I was unable to access /data or /sdcard because both systems were encrypted. I ended up having to factory reset my phone because it refused to co-operate or let me access my files. However, before I did that, I was able to run
Code:
adb shell "dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2" > data.img
and
Code:
adb shell "dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3" > sdcard.img
Which appears to have copied the raw partition images from the phone (at least, they're the right sizes).
According to my reading, Android (and, I'm inferring, CyanogenMod) encrypts filesystems using dm-crypt, with a AES-CBC ESSIV:SHA256 cipher, with the key being derived from the password using PBKDF2. Knowing the precious little I do about encrypted file systems, my guess is that if I configure the image in cryptsetup to create a drive mapping, I can mount the mapped drive and recover the data from the images.
According to /fstab.herring on my ahem, fresh, install of Android, the /data partition is in ext4 format whereas the /sdcard partition is vFAT. So, once I've gotten through the encryption on the partition images, they should mount normally, right?
I know that dm-crypt accepts plain, LUKS, LoopAES and TrueCrypt device formats. I'm inferring from the PBKDF2 extension that Android goes the LUKS route for encrypting. Is this conclusion correct?
Whether it's possible to decrypt a dumped android image? I'm really hoping that the cypher information is stored on the file system and not on some key file that I nuked in the factory reset. If it can, in theory, be decrypted, am I using the right tools to approach the matter? If so, I'll continue fiddling with cryptsetup and mount, but no sense in wasting time if it's an impossible task.

A long time ago I had edited a file that is read on boot, in that file is written which one of the two 'partition' has to be mounted as what.
Basically, my 32GB microsd is seen as the internal memory of the device (which would be 12 GB), and the other one as micro sd. The result is that most application would go to the microsd by default, using thus 32GB for apps instead of 12GB.
This is because my microsd is failing. Changed with a new one, and now it is failing again. I suppose my phone has become a 'micro sd destroyer'. Cannot do anything about it, so better to use the internal memory instead of the card for main use..... So how do I switch back to normal mounting (micro sd as micro sd and internal memory as internal memory and not switched up) ?

I'm having a problem with ES file explorer. After several days I managed to root my HUawei U8800 Ideos X5 (Android 2.3.5) and obviously one of the next steps is installing CWMR. Unfortunately I'm failing here too. I tried to copy the recovery.img to the .cust_backup/image, but it keeps to say copy failed. Root access was given and I checked all four boxes in root settings. Someone in a german forum told me to update the binarys in SU, which failed too (it says sth like copy su to /system -> failed!). I'm not even sure ES FE would work if the binarys would be current.
I already tried the app Mount /system (rw / ro). It didn't work with this too.

I rooted last night, DL LFY and LFY1100 kernel. I installed the kernel and then LFY itself. After trying to reboot it only gets to the custom boot screen and will not launch. After 15 minutes I pulled the battery and tried to launch in recovery mode to load my backup. Upon trying to do that it says cannot mount to SD card. I try again and same thing. After failing to mount it goes into the same custom launch screen for LFY but no OS comes up.

You know, I hate that feeling when you join a great forum, and having to ask for some sort of help in your first post. *sigh* Anyway, here goes.I just got my DX, and its pretty awesome. I love almost everything about the phone. The problem is that the SD card won't work, and I'm not sure if it's the card or the phone. On around the 5th day with the phone, I was listening to music with pandora, and decided that I wanted to play a little Super KO Boxing 2. However, the battery was really low at the time. Because of this, as soon as I opened the game and it started searching the SD card for the down loadable content, the phone ran out of battery and the screen froze. I had to turn power off. Later on when it was done charging, I turned the phone on again, only to be notified that the SD card was of an unsupported filetype. So I formatted it in the settings menu, but nothing happened. I clicked format again, and still nothing. Now, even when I click the "mount button", nothing happens. I have tried removing the card and turning the phone on an off. I don't actually own a pc card reader but would have no problems with buying one.

It appears that you cannot take video while the phone is placed in the navigation mount. I tried this yesterday, and when the phone goes into video mode it is ok. But the minute you try to start recording, its kicks out to the main screen. I'm wondering if this is supposed to happed, or if its a glitch that mine has? Can anyone verify this?

i figured out how to make the USB cord find the droid when you plug it in the comp, you drag down the notification menu and hit "mount" and it pops up the folders on windows.. i got that part
but i was wondering if there was a way to just make the folders pop up automatically so you don't have to drag the notification menu every time and hit "mount".

My mom has an Asus TF300T running JB 4.2.1. She tried to root and flash OmniROM by herself and borked it somehow. Unfortunately, she didn't do any backup...
She entered the fastboot screen and there she selected wipe. Then she flashed openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-tf300tg-JB.blob using fastboot.
It's operational, the OS loads up fine and she can use it, install apps etc.
I can get to the fastboot screen and from there to the TWRP no problem, but TWRP can't mount anything besides system. No dalvik partition, no data partition, not even the SD or external SD.Naturally, I can't flash another rom...
Tried executing "fix permissions" from the TWRP menu, it didn't work.
Downloaded the latest official Asus blob file TF300T-US_epad-10_6_1_27_5-UpdateLauncher.zip and flashed it using fastboot, hoping it will restore the missing partitions but it didn't make any difference.
Also tried CWM - same issue.

I had rooted my A13. Installed BusyBox. Then was trying to figure out how to flash CWM by first trying to figure out how to get into the stock recovery. Holding down power+volup and power+voldown didn't do anything. I think I had the USB and power both plugged in at the same time. Next thing I know, the tablet rebooted and appeared to have factory reset. But now every time it is turned off and turned back on it goes back to factory default.
Real problem: Turns out the OS is not mounting data which is why it appears like its factory reset.
What I have done: Installed CWM. The only way I can get to CWM is to choose factory reset from the OS and when it reboots, it goes into CWM. There's no other way for me to get into recovery, so at this point, I am hesitant to try and flash random ROMs. From CWM I can mount data and see that it should go to /dev/block/nande. With the OS booted back up, I can manually mount data and see all the files in ADB shell, But it doesn't affect the OS since it has already booted up. And if I reboot, it won't be mounted again.
So how do I make Android mount data on bootup? Or what to check to see why its not mounting data anymore? vold.fstab appears to only list SDCARD mounts.

I have a '99 Saturn SC2 that I modify. I've added an overhead console from a Suburban, and have a large space that I've always known I'd like to use for something cool. Looks like I'll be getting a Droid soon, and am eyeballing the spot for a Droid mount. So, I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive mount that I can modify to fit this space in front of the map lights.
I have a filler plate that fills that hole, which I can modify with the mount to give a cleaner look.
I'm still getting my head around what all I can do with the droid, so it's hard to say what all I plan to use it for in the car. I have not yet upgraded the stereo headunit, so the droid won't be interfacing with it for quite a while (on the plus side that means when I do upgrade the headunit, I can pick whatever's going to work out best). Might be nice to find a dock that activates the car mode or whatnot, but I'm not looking to spend big bucks on something that I'm going to likely have to chop up to make it fit.
Also, as this will be my phone and a business tool, the Droid needs to be easily removable.

I had to .sbf last night back to 2.1, rooted with Universal Androot and then used rom manger to update to 2.2 which is 2.3.9 then when I try to restore a backup or apply any zips from sd card during clockwork Mod recovery I get the following error.
ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.5
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0pt1)
(Device or resource busy)
Can't mount /sdcard
Does anyone have any solutions to help me out? I am not sure if it was something to do with the root method I used or something else I need to do to get it going.
The first time I rooted I installed the first leak 2.2 myself and then rooted with adb, but I no longer have the leak 2.2 file so I rooted 2.1 first then installed 2.2 like I said earlier through rom manager.

I have been trying to find one in stores for about a week and a half now and can't find them anywhere.
Then two days ago they went on backorder online, and now they aren't even listed on Verizon's website, and on Motorola's they are both listed as "Coming Soon." Anyone have any info on these?
Also, does the car mount come with a charger? It states that it does on Motorola's website but it says it doesn't on Verizon's...

Alright, so basically, my Droid hates me. I've searched all over, tried a ton of things, nothing will work.
Basically, whenever I go into any recovery, it can't mount the SD card. Clockwork usually crashes after 10 seconds, and SPRecovery doesn't crash, but it won't mount the card either. I tried a bunch of different versions, I tried flashing back and forth and rebooting constantly, I tried removing the battery and SD card for a few minutes, but none of it worked.
The weirdest part of it all that about 1 in every 20 times I boot into recovery, it actually DOES mount the card and I can actually do something. Please help!
EDIT: Just realized this oughta be in the Support sub-forum.

Nothing is working though.. It is the 16gb card that I got with my replacement Droid. I have never had this problem before.
