Motorola Droid X :: Former IPhone User Switching To Verizon

Jul 20, 2010

The wife and I have both been on AT&T for 12 years. I've had the 3G and 3GS and she has a P.O.S. Samsung Epix WinMo phone. She actually ordered an iPhone 4 but we were both unhappy with the Apple press conference and said screw it and returned it. The people at AT&T couldn't believe we were returning it. They asked why and my wife pretty much told them it's because Steve Jobs is a douche. She wouldn't even look at the Samsung Captivate on AT&T because she loathes Samsung phones now.So we went to Verizon and both fell in love with the Droid X. We went in to sign up tonight and ran into a little issue. Apparently some putz named Ernesto had used my wife's social security number some years ago to sign up for Verizon and then didn't pay his bill. So we had to go through this drawn out process dealing with Verizon's fraud department and prove that my wife is who she says she is. We're pretty laid back so we weren't stressing. The Verizon store rep was so apologetic and cool. We eventually got it straightened out.We got the phones for $199.99 each with no mail in rebate, no activation fees, free overnight shipping (when they are in stock ), and they paid the $120 ETF for my 3GS (coming to Craigslist soon). Pretty happy so far and looking forward to my Droid X!I just got bored with the iPhone. Not much of a difference to me between the 3GS and the 4. Good phone, just not for me anymore. Can't wait to dive into Android!

Motorola Droid :: Switching Between WiFi & Verizon

Oct 31, 2009

I am currently a Blackberry Storm owner. I have pre-ordered a Droid at Best Buy and very much look forward to picking it up on Friday. My current Storm does not have WiFi capabilities so I have not had an opportunity to play with WiFi on a device like this.My question is how do you go about switching between WiFi (where available) and Verizon's network? After you have configured the Droid to user your home wireless network, is it a manual operation where you select the connection you want or will it automatically use a WiFi connection when available?

Motorola Droid :: Verizon's Return Policy / Switching Back From Eris

Dec 4, 2009

I bought the eris almost a month ago so my 30 day return policy is getting close. I like the eris a lot, mostly because of it's size and the senseUI, but a part of me yearns for the larger, sharper display of the moto droid. Now, I've noticed my eris is starting to chug slowly to do things like typing, changing apps and I'm not sure if it's just because I'm running a bunch of stuff at once or what, but its making me feel like I'd rather have the powerful processor of the droid as well. But, what if I get the droid and decide that I liked the eris better. Will I be stuck with the droid or can I return it and go back to the eris? I guess what I'm really looking for is an explanation of verizon's return policy and perhaps some feedback from those of you who switched from eris to droid.

Motorola :: Blackberry User / Switching To Droid

Jan 4, 2010

I am a die-hard Blackberry user but I'm gonna give the Droid a shot later this week, and I've been lurking around these forums for the last few days but I'd like to just get a couple of things confirmed before I take the leap.

1) I'm hearing and reading a lot about problems with yahoo email setup, even that some of the fixes/workarounds don't work. Anyone?

2) Does the Droid have true threaded text messaging?

3) What's the deal with notifications on the Droid? I really can't survive without my notifications (vibrations, sounds, blinking light) for missed calls/voicemails/emails/texts/calendar appts and I thought I read that the Droid doesn't really handle these very well...or at all.

4) This is a personal preference question but how are you guys dealing with the lack of physical send and end buttons?

Motorola Droid X :: Iphone 3gs User Moving To Droid X

Jul 15, 2010

I have been an Iphone user since Gen1, and have just come out of contract under AT&T.While I like the Iphone 4, with the unfortunate AT&T service (or lack thereof) that comes with the phone, it's just not an option anymore. In my area edge is the only available service, and even that has drop outs frequently. Then about 4 months ago, the WIFI quit on my phone, which made the AT&T service problems MUCH worse, or apparently so than they were before.I have had more bad calls, and dropped calls and lack of data availability than I can shake a stick at.I mostly use the phone for browsing and video/Podcast playback, but I use it A LOT.I love Itunes, and have a bunch of podcasts, including video ones that I listen to quite a bit.So I hope I can sync them still.

Motorola Droid :: Can't Setup My Verizon / Yahoo Mail Account (verizon.net)

Nov 10, 2009

For some strange reason I can't seem to set-up my personal e-mail account on this Droid phone. I click on "e-mail", I type in my e-mail address and my password, and then I click "next". And then I get a message that says my username and/or password does not match. But I am positive it does, as I have gone online to test it. I have tried retyping my username and passwrod over and over again without any success. I can't get passed that screen.
I have Verizon FiOS at my house, so my e-mail is set-up through Verizon/Yahoo.

HTC EVO 4G :: Likely Switching From IPhone To EVO

Jul 30, 2010

I just joined the forum (actually typing this up on an iPhone 3G, ha) and I'm highly considering making the switch. At first I just wanted out because AT&T's network is so god awful in NYC but when I started to look into the phones and plans I got a little excited about it. With my girlfriends discount we can get a pretty phenomnal deal when compared to AT&T and Android defenitly has some perks when compared to iOS.First off, my girlfriend is concerned that the quality of the service won't be any better. Can anybody speak to the quality of voice and data services in Manhattan? I'd ask a friend but I honestly don't know anybody on the network in NYC. Just to clarify, I'm referring to the 3G network.

Were any of you former iPhone users also mac users? My only real concerns with switching phones is how well the iPhone syncs up with my mac. I know it's not possible for Android to totally stack up but I'm just wondering if it offers anything decent on the syncing front. Is there any kind of front end software? How do you get music on this beast?

Android :: Switching Service Provider / From T Mobile To Verizon

Aug 17, 2010

Maybe this is a dumb question, but if Android is so cool and open source and whatnot, shouldn't it be possible to break off of one service provider and go to another with the same phone? Ex: From T-Mobile to Verizon? By just modifying the source code a bit?

HTC Incredible :: Switching Back To Verizon Voicemail From Google Voice

Jul 12, 2010

I was having some issues with Google Voice (people saying that they didn't always get my voicemail or sometimes it was some automated thing instead of my Google Voice message). I can't afford not getting my voice messages so I want to switch back. However, now whenever I get a voicemail it shows up in my notification bar and I click on the notification and it automatically calls a google voice number. However, when I enter my pin it says I have no messages. So I'm assuming they are on my Verizon Voicemail. But I can't get to them. I finally figured out that in settings you have to then go to the Call menu and change the Voicemail Service back to "My carrier" from Google Voice. But then the Voicemail Number stills shows as the google voice number. What is the number to change it to for Verizon Voicemail? Will that take care of it and allow me to check the 3 unheard messages and then get all of my messages from here on out?

General :: Switching To Android From IPhone 4S?

Jan 16, 2014

My contract with Verizon is up in the middle of February and my wife and I are planning on getting new phones and possibly switching carries (possibly to T-Mobile). Based on what's currently available I think if we stay on Verizon we'll get two Moto Xs, but if we switch to T-Mobile we'll go with the Nexus 5. I try to stay up on tech news, but if any new phones are expected in February or early March I'd be interested in hearing about them. I don't want to wait too long because my iPhone is out of warranty and starting to slowly die (for instance the on/off button no longer works).

Android :: Web Browsers With User Agent Switching?

Sep 16, 2010

I am trying to see if there is more than the normal popular web browsers out there that support user agent switching. I am looking for those that support either custom or iOS settings.

Before I get attacked for wanting to emulate a iOS product I will explain.

The company I work for uses a 3rd party vendor for eBooks for our students we work with. They use a proprietary software that only worked on Mac or PC's to download the book as well as a online website.

Yesterday the vendor launched an app for the iOS that allows the users to download the books to their devices. They also altered the online version of the site to work perfectly with iOS devices.

They refuse to take into consideration Android devices and the website will not display the eBooks properly on any android device.

However, when playing around with Dolphin and xScope the User Agent settings have iPhone/iPad in them. After enabling them, the site thinks its a iOS device and the content works beautifully with it.

What I am trying to do is catalog the other browsers out there that support user agent switching to try to catalog the ones we can suggest to students to use.

HTC EVO 4G : Comparison As A Former IPhone User

Jun 6, 2010

I did a video comparison between my Evo and my first gen iPhone. These are my impressions from being a former iPhone user. Enjoy, and please leave comments as you see necessary.g (My SD card filled up while recording this so it's in two videos)

Let me clarify. This is not meant to be a definitive review or comparison. I am not a professional product reviewer. I'm just a tech enthusiast give you guys my impressions of my Evo versus my iPhone. I'm sure people will notice things that I let out of this, and I've already noticed quite a few things I meant to say but forgot. Please take my videos for what they are, first impressions.

Android :: How To Receive Pictures From An Iphone Mms User

Sep 27, 2010

Ok, I hate iphones, and apple products. But a few of my friends have iphones. One friend in particular has an iphone, and we send pictures sometimes.

The problems is, every time he does, it comes in a slide show. One picture gets sent, and it takes about 5 seconds before I can see it, as it's showing a black slide, and then the picture shows.

It's a real small slideshow picture, and I've got no way to download it even. It's real annoying! He kinda laughs and sometimes will just email it to me, like the way that iphone users had to send pictures before they got the ability to send mms messages.

How hard can this be? Is it something he is not doing right, or is it just some stupid way that iphones send mms messages to where only iphone users can properly use the photos?

Motorola Droid X :: Switching To X

Aug 21, 2010

I just convinced Verizon to send me an X to replace my second Inc due to horrendous voice quality issues. Hopefully this switch works out because I was very impressed with the unit I tested a few weeks ago.Anyway, there's 2 questions I need answers for and was hoping someone could help me out.

1) Is the standard battery good enough to get through a days usage with heavy call volume? My phone is for business purposes and I'm on it a lot....several hours each day. My Inc never makes it through the day. Do I need an extended battery or will the OEM unit be fine?

2) When using the GPS, does the voice prompt switch over to your BT headset if you're in a call? I LOVE Google Maps, but the voice prompts come through my headset during a call and are extremely loud and distracting. Does the X do this as well? If not, I might be able to return the Garmin that I just bought (and hate) and go back to using the amazing Google Maps again.

Motorola Droid X :: Switching Youmail From BB

Aug 3, 2010

Just ordered my Droid X online. I'm coming from a BB Tour, and am excited to get more intimate with the Android OS . 1 thing I wanted to ask about though is Youmail. Has anyone come from a BB using Youmail and transferred it over to Android? I did a quick search and couldn't find anything. Is it as simple as downloading the Youmail app on the Droid X and logging in, and boom everything is back to normal? Might be a stupid question, I just haven't heard much about Youmail on Android and switching between different OSs and such. Also, for those who switched from Youmail on BB to Android, are there any big differences? Is the app better/worse on Android?

Motorola Droid X :: Switching Between Email Accounts

Jul 29, 2010

I'm a new Android user and I'm sure this will seem like a silly question, but for the life of me, I can't figure it out. I have two non-Gmail accounts set up using the stock email program: one Yahoo Mail and the other for my domain. The email account for my domain is set up as the default, so when I start a new email, it comes from that account. However, I can not figure out how to switch to the Yahoo Mail account to compose and send email without making the Yahoo Mail account the default account. There has to be some way to open your inbox or send a new message without switching which account is the default everytime, or at least I would think so.

Motorola Droid :: 3G/1x Switching Back / Forth Area?

Nov 16, 2009

I'm a noob to the whole smartphone with data thing. Is it normal for my phone to switch in and out of 3G in an area that the verizon map shows as being a 3G area? At home I seem to stay on the 3G fairly constantly, but at work (which is at the edge of coverage) and especially while driving I seem to drop 3G quite a bit. It makes playing Slacker in the car not worth while. Just wondering if this is "just the way it is" or if I may have an issue.

Motorola :: Switching Back To Swype 2.1 From 2.2 On Droid X?

Sep 14, 2010

I had updated my DX to 2.2 a few weeks ago without rooting and DESPISE the new Swype keyboard in 2.2. It's smaller, white, and doesn't seem to work as well as the one installed on 2.1 on the DX which is black and seemed to have bigger keys to Swype to on the keyboard. How can I revert back to the old Swype keyboard that I had on 2.1 but keep 2.2 installed? I was told to move the Swype.apk file from 2.1 to the system/app directory in addition to the old lib file to the lib directory and then reboot the phone. The only problem is when I try to paste those files over, it won't let me. I'm guessing I need to be rooted to have access to those directories? What's the easiest way to root a 2.2 Droid X? Also, I was told the files need to be given special permissions. Is there an easier way to install the Swype from the DX running 2.1 onto a DX running the first leak of 2.2 for the DX?

Motorola Droid : Consider Switching Providers For Android?

Oct 21, 2009

I'm considering switching from T-mobile to verizon for this phone. I was this close to getting the motocliq but this device seems to be much better as long as the keyboard is functional since I'm not even a social networker. How many of you are considering switching carriers for this phone and do you think its worth it?

Is it true there's a 30 day buyer's remorse period on verizon so if I just get it and don't like it for whatever reason, I'm safe to remain with t-mobile and not be committed?

If so, do you think they shake their heads in disgust that we have to change or enhance everything they do? Or do they glow with pride, knowing that they have developed something that struck a creative chord with so many people and that their product is something we just can't get enough of? It just may be some of the Moto-gurus themselves who prompt and post some of the modifications and changes that get us nudged into one astonishing direction or another. I can think of several helpful members here now that I would not be a bit surprised if I found that they were co-creators and architects of the Droid. Hats off and thanks to you, either way! Motorola Droid X :: Navigation Spontaneously Switching Screens

Jul 16, 2010

Just starting to play around with the new X. I tried the car dock on my first trip with nav without having the charging cable plugged in. Nav seemed to stay on the turn-by-turn screen just fine, except that the screen kept timing out (as expected running on battery). Today I also plugged in a charging cable. Nav started out working fine, but then several times during my trip the X inexplicably switched away from the turn-by-turn screen to the directions screen (or to the "maps" top-down screen). I didn't see anything in the options, and can't imagine why the thing would be switching. Also, I just updated to the latest Google Maps application (last night, between the two nav tests), so maybe that had something to do with it....
