Motorola Droid X :: Easiest Transition Droid To DroidX?
Jul 31, 2010
Like many, my DroidX is ordered and on the way. I would like some input from those of you who have already gone from the Droid to the DroidX about the easiest way to transition apps, contacts, and anything else. I'm not really expecting it to be difficult. I have a rooted Droid, Titanium Backup (which probably won't help), AppBrain (which I hope will) and all my contacts are in my Google account. I'm just looking for things to watch out for and ways to make it easy.

I do not want a lot of these Apps that are Built into my Droid X including:
Amazon Kindle, Blockbuster, CityID, and 3G Mobile Hotspot.
Is there a way to delete them? If not, how do I permanently stop them from running in the background and eating memory automatically?

After heavy use for a couple of hours, the DroidX locks up requiring the user to pull the battery for a hard reset. That absolutely kills on the running apps. Clever design by the Moto software geniuses.

So as many of us are probably coming from either the droid, incredible, or some other android device I was wondering what apps you plan on using to make the transition easy. Personally I'll be switching from an Incredible and I've started the search for good free or paid backup apps. So far I've found Lookout which is a security and backup app but I'm not convinced.

Watching the same transition animations over and over is boring. You can speed them up with Spare Parts or you can just shut them off entirely within settings. There is, though, a third road: change 'em. These are videos of most of the transition animations packs (Drod's rubiX animations, Fab's animation mix, and Android Stock have no videos at present).

Well, upon attempting to read as much as possible before taking the plunge, I've run across a few methods to accomplish the same thing. I'm currently running 2.1 OTA(stock) and wanted the most basic way to root with the least chance of bricking.
I've gone through the guides, but have also run into DroidMod's guide on flashing 2.1 with recovery.
RSD is a little intimidating to me and I'm afraid if I breathe wrong on the phone, it will become a paperweight.
Is using RSD the only/easiest way to gain root? Sorry for the redundant question, however there are a few threads on this topic and dated within a few months of one another and I'm which route to take.

It works and all, but it's kinda weird. It's like the Droid has a diff way of putting together picture messages (like w/ .gif files and such). There's usually a pause, then it starts, but each transition is slow and then after it shows, you then get whatever messaged was typed in. My g/f sends me stuff from her LG Dare, and it's all put together as it should be. It's been this way for both the stock messenger and Handcent. Is there a preference option I need to tweak?

If this has been asked I cannot find it. What is the easiest, quickest method for root right now? There seems to be a new method being developed every week. I know there are basebands available to load that will help with the signal issues. Are there fixes with root that will resolve the audio issue with Pandora?

So I finally got the 2.0 root off that the guy before me had this phone on. He rooted it with droid mod, and that seemed pretty easy to use. I'm wondering and if there is someone who has more experience with this than I what is the easiest way for me to root my stock 2.1 droid?

I want to find an easy way to just have the phone silent except SMS messages while I'm sleeping. I have tried different profile applications but it looks like they just generically turn off "notifications" which looks like both email and SMS notifications. I know I can go in and manually silence the email and the other notifications each time but I wanted to find an easier way. I get important SMS messages from work at all hours but thats all I want to hear.

I'm coming from a Blackberry 8530 to a Droid, my first Android phone. I'm really looking forward to using this forum. You guys seem great! What is the easiest/free way to theme the home screen? I don't need more screens or anything else. Just like icons colors, and whatever else can be changed.

I'm sure a lot of us using the Droid are coming from a BlackBerry. Well here is what I miss: Being able to skip tracks by just holding down the +/- Volume for 2 Seconds. (Instead you have unlock the screen and hope you're still in the app for your media player.) Flip to your next picture with a flick. This was fixed with "Multi-Touch Gallery for Droid" A facebook app that lets you check Live Feed and your Inbox.
^Same thing for MySpace Custom LED color for different Alerts.

I've got plenty of music on my computer as well as pictures that I'd like to put on my Droid. What's the easiest way to do this? Also, if I don't have one of the ringo type apps can I use these songs as ringtones for specific contacts?

easiest way to view a call's details, to see call duration? The only way I can find is to go to a contact's info, view call history, then get the details of the call there.

Got a lot of funky, annoying little things going on, I think it may be time to wipe my DX and start over again. No contact data to worry about, I use MS Exchange Server. Got some purchased apps including Touchdown so I definitely want to preserve those with minimal issues in reloading them without having to purchase them again. I use ADW as my launcher, it would nice to save those settings. Is there a step by step guide or instructions for doing this? I've done this 4 or 5 times over the years with PC's, can't imagine this should be that difficult with the DX.

I took a look at the DroidX at Verizon. My gut reaction was that it was too big and that I should wait for the Droid2. I am wondering how actual users find it though. I always wear my cells on my belt, so it is not like I would have to squeeze it into a pocket. Are people finding it too big or not that big of a deal?

A guy at work has the DroidX and I was playing with it today. Nice device. One of the things that looked really cool on it was that it had a color notif bar. All the notif icons were in color (FB, Mail, GMail, SMS, etc). It looks really cool. Any way to get that on a rooted Eris?

I currently have a Windows Mobile phone in which I am heavily dependent on an application call Pocket Informant from a company called WebIS. It is a feature packed program that handles my Calendar/Contact/ToDo List. I find it much better than the built in Windows Mobile solution. Currently WebIS is developing a version of Pocket Informant for the Android OS. I am hoping that it will be out in August or September. In the mean time, I have purchased a DroidX and want to transfer all of my contacts, Calendar entries and Task (ToDos) over the DroidX. Can anyone offer help on the best way to do this? I would also be willing to purchased a third party app if it would make it easy and painless. I saw a program called Android Touchdown by Nitrodesk, but I am not sure that this would do want I need.

Even though its built for 2.1 I was able to install the apk on my Evo with 2.2 but it won't install on the Epic.Is it because of the screen res? Epic is 800x480 vs Evo/droidx 800x400.I love this KB and can type faster on it vs swype.

One thing that has kind of always urked me about this phone when comparing it to the evil iPhone is the transitions between pages. Why is it that there is always a little jerk here and there on transitioning from one page to the next? I noticed that lists are often even worse! I mean, how hard is it to render some scrolling text? At the moment, I am running IC3, and it seems to have sped things up quite a bit, but I think the transition issue is an issue with the core O.S. itself? I am just thinking that a nice, smooth transition would give me warm fuzzies (which is kind of what I was expecting when going root). I know it's minor, but I've always been curious.
Also, I bought SetCPU, and I haven't been able to quite figure out how to overclock this phone yet... I tried raising the min speed, and it locked up the phone. The top speed is set at 880k by default, but it always reads "526" for the current frequency. I was kind of expecting it to have two simple sliders One for low frequency (idle) and one for high that were self explanatory, but that does not appear to be the case. I've been thinking about throwing JIT on it as well since everyone has been talking about it, but I just haven't had the time to really dig into the reading yet.
