View 2 RepliesI don't know about anyone else, but I HATE the turn-by-turn directions voice in Google Navigation. I have a Moto Droid and the voice is practically unintelligible. As a die-hard Google devotee,I have faith that they will correct the problem if enough people tell them to. Surprisingly, I was not able to find this suggestion on their product suggestion forum, so I created one.

I believe I want the Fascinate but this issue with Google Maps navigation is an issue since turn-by-turn navigation is a big feature for me. Does Bing Maps also offer turn-by-turn navigation as well? Is it voice assisted? Personally I don't care if it's Bing or Google but I don't want the Verizon one since it will require a monthly fee. As long as Bing Maps offers the same functionality as Google Maps, I'm fine.

I can pass data to the dialer, and call a phone number successfully, but now wish to use the turn-by-turn navigation as an additional function. I have searched tirelessly through Android documentation, Google Maps API Documentation, and the web without luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction or hint how I can pass the service my data?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm sure its been discussed and all but I think that the voice recognition software is capable of being much more advanced. There should be a way to just give your phone a voice command without having to manually open an app. It probably would have to be running in the background the whole time, analyzing everything it hears, so it may use a lot of battery and cpu.therefore it may be easier to have a starter phrase to tell it to listen more carefully. for example: say the said app is running in the background, listening to every noise, but it wouldn't begin to really analyize until you say something like; "hey, phone!" or "yo, droid!" (or whatever tag phrase). I don't know what would have to go into an app like that for it to work but hey, if an app like that was designed, then I think the android would be a really smart smartphone. In the end thanks for all the awesome apps you guys are already developing. be sure to tell me when someone develops something like that though.

View 1 Replies View Relatedin Virtuous Rom 3.1 the Google Maps turn-by-turn navigation voice doesn't work...instead of speaking the directions, the voice rambles on about XML versions and a random website in a slow-motion voice. I'm shocked that I can't find any information at all about this on XDA or here.Does this happen to anyone else who uses Virtuous Rom 3.1? I tried to contact RMK via XDA PM but he hasn't responded yet, sent last night. I would really like a fix for this, Google maps navigation is fantastic.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm currently working on a project to show turn by turn navigation signals on my bicycle. I'm using my arduino board to turn on the led's. My question is: is it possible to get the turn info from a android navigation app like maps or sygic so it can be read by another application?

View 7 Replies View RelatedIs anything known about how an app may tap turn-by-turn directions generated by Android 2.0's Google Maps Navigation? Until now we were prohibited by the Google Maps ToS to offer turn-by-turn directions in our apps. Clearly it would be attractive to integrate some of that functionality in other mobile applications, or to be able to exert some level of control over Google Maps Navigation from one's app. In other words, are there any supplementary APIs for use with Google Maps Navigation?Or does Google Maps Navigation run as a Service such that at least one need not switch between applications to still get spoken turn-by-turn directions even while one's app Activity is running in the foreground?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had my Droid for about a month and the Google Voice turn by turn naviagation has worked beautifully. Today, when I went to use it, I'm receiving directions...BUT I do not get turn by turn voice directions. The view of the map is from like an airplane, not the "over the shoulder" view like I used to get, and the voice part is totally gone (I've checked the volume and it's not that).I've tried powering the phone down/up, but doesn't help. I've called Verizon but they've told me they don't support this App.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having some trouble with Google Navigation on my SGS3 from US Cellular. Now, I understand that the volume has been merged together with the media volume, and that's not really my issue.
When I enter Google Navigation, the media volume reads correctly. (I jacked it up to full volume just to test this out. It reads full volume when I start GN.) But when a turn-by-turn direction reads, the volume is really low. If I hit the volume up button during the TTS directions, it shows that the media volume is set very low. I can turn it up while the direction is speaking, and the media volume does increase. But the next time a direction begins saying something, it's quiet and the volume is reset really low again. I have to keep turning the volume up for each turn-by-turn direction!
When I exit GN, the media volume is back to full blast again, just as it was before I entered the app. So, it's obviously something GN is doing. I just don't get why it won't remember my volume setting when I turn it up.
ETA: I tested this again, and it's only a problem if I have a media player fired up. I use n7. When it kills the volume for the media player, it does so for the navigation, too.
Unfortunately, even if I close n7, the volume is still ruined until I stop and restart my Bluetooth connection. If I start Bluetooth and run navigation without the media player, tts works fine.
Apparently the audio issue where it keeps turning my volume down is only when it's not connected to Bluetooth in my car.
Just wondering if there are any apps on the market that I can get to change the default voice because this womans voice drives me and others mad. I havnt found anything on the market myself yet but would be grateful if anybody knew of an app that will allow me to change the default text to speech voice to a better voice like a normal sat nav.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo - I *love* Google Maps with Navigation and I just recently upgraded to the new version of maps where it gives you a direct link to Navigation. My issue though is that I do not have any voice navigation when I start Navigation directly but I do have it when I just go through the regular Maps link and then select Navigation in there. I checked the menu and it is not muted. The sounds is also set to high. As I said, the sound works perfectly well if I go through the main app. Just not with the new direct link. Anyone else seeing this or worked this out?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to put turn by turn navigation using mapview in my android app, just like google maps provides us. I was not able to find any kind of turning info in th kml file returned by google, so I wonder is it possible or not?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there an app out there to change the voice that is installed on the navigation app installed on my desire?
It is an awesome gps/satnav, but man she has a weird voice!!
I'm still curious about what potential lies ahead for Maps and Navigation. Will there be more options for the turn-by-turn voice character? The fembot that's there now sounds more synthetic than other GPS I've heard, and the voice sounds distorted with certain words.
Sometime the maps search has been frustrating. I could only remember the street name for one destination. I couldn't remember if it was "road", "street", "ave" etc. I kept trying to type in just the street name and maps would give me like one search result for a city on the other side of the world. Often on the Droid I feel like it could give more search results. It will say "Did you mean?" and list one option - a button for "no" would be nice so it could try a different search.
I still don't understand how to best organize my personal maps, and locations that I frequent (for example, sometimes I'm out in a new area and want to use Nav to get me to a friend's house that I go to often).
I'm trying to wrap my head around this stuff. I want to be able to mark locations easily, make notes/reviews about them and integrate "my maps", "where i've been", "places i've been" and stuff like "foursquare" and "yelp".
This is all new to me, and I'm guessing Google Maps + GPS is pretty new to anyone. Let me know if you have any tips or insight into the implications of all this.
anyway to turn off the volume everytime you hit a number ?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there any way of changing the voice on these, the synthesised voice is AWFUL. Apart from not being able to pronounce English words correctly (E.g. Kew <queue> said as koo - I can't imagine what is must be like if I had to drive down Gloucester or Leicester) it's soooooo grating and harsh on my lugs.I've tried both English and American English settings but both are as bad as each other. Is there a download for new voices or one in the pipeline?I'm shocked this passed Google's quality control!

I mean I know I can trade it in for another refurb but that's kind of a last resort.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI drive a VW Jetta with bluetooth, which has easily paired with my last two phones (Bionic and S4, respectively). While Google map's turn-by-turn map navigation works fine with my phone's bluetooth on, in so far as I can see directions on the map, the navigation voice is disabled. Only when my phone's bluetooth is off do I hear a voice. I'm not sure if this is a function of my phone or my car.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI keep my GPS off usually to save the battery, but hate that I have to turn it on every time when I want to use the navigation.
Is there any way I can set it so that it turns on automatically when I am using navigation?
Also, can someone explain the 3 different location settings?
1. use wireless networks
2. Use GPS satellites
3. enable assisted GPS
what are the differences b/t the 3?
