Motorola Droid X :: Buzz From Vibrate/keyboard
Jul 16, 2010
Does anyone else get a high pitched buzz when the phone vibrates? There's actually an audible sound that I hear especially when I'm using my keyboard. I guess I can deal with it, but I'm wondering if this is normal.

My headset speaker (non-speaker phone) has a buzz to it when the in-call volume is all the way up, or one notch away from full. If I call voice mail, any automated line, or anybody speaks loudly the words are distorted by the speaker buzz. I'm not sure how else to describe it other than distortion/speaker issue. Does anybody else have their in-call volume all the way up that could confirm whether this is happening on theirs? My wife has the incredible and when I compare on her voicemail full in-call volume, it is perfect. I'm thinking about exchanging at Best Buy, but wan't to make sure its not common before I do. Would hate to go through the trouble if they all make this buzz/distortion.

Don't put off calling CS or going into a store. I had it, but it wasn't that bad. I thought it was tolerable. Then it got ten times worse between phone calls. And after using my husband's X and bearing how crystal clear and loud it is, I know I definitely got a defect.

Anyone else noticing an audible buzz when listening to someone talk when on a phone call? Sounds eerily familiar to a blown speaker. Scary since I noticed it as soon as I got it..... I believe my phone was a return that they sold to me. It seemed to have come with some downloaded apps already (though I'm not sure) and the box was a little worn looking (no plastic around the literature either)
Boo hiss! it'll be 48 hours with the phone on Monday, and I'm getting a new one already

on my droid x whenever the phone vibrates either when im clicking something, getting a text or a incoming call. the phone makes a buzz noise. also i noticed the phone does not vibrate as heavy as it should and is not as noticable when its in your pocket with the sound off. i used a droid 1 and a droid incredible in the past and both of those the vibration was quieter. so im wondering are everyones droid x like this or does mine just have a defective vibration mechanism or something?

Anyone think this is cool? I've looked at it a little bit and really like it; it seems to have real potential to take on Facebook. I like that it just locates you, so more more facebook posts saying, "I'm at the mall." Google seems to really have something here.

I have a Droid X with the OTA 2.2 rooted and when I put the phone in Vibrate the phone will not vibrate at all not for phone calls, text, or email? I have "MINI INFO WIDGET" and when I go in there to adjust the volume to vibrate it will work but then when I try to go back to Sound Profile I have to manually adjust the sound again? I have Vibrate Widget and when that is selected it goes to silent only. I tried Uninstalling MINI INFO and VIBRATE WIDGET but I still have the same result sooo it can't be the programs.

I tried it and it works so far.
Dev = ne0fhyk from XDA.
From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers
Verbage:
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'
Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion
Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.
The app is still in development.

I'm using the Cognition build of the 2.2 Leak (beta v5.5) on my Captivate at the moment. Haven't had any problems thus far, and am loving it. But I noticed something odd today. I had to install the .apk of the android keyboard that's floating around the forums. And I noticed that haptic feedback on keypress doesn't work. Anybody else have this problem? Know a solution?

Dont get me wrong, the QWERTY keyboard is sick, and I love it. But after typing on the keyboard for while, I wanted to switch it up, so I tried the on screen key pad. And to my surprise, the on screen keyboard appears to be much quicker than using the QWERTY!

I was able to change to a vibrate profile very quickly, which simply put the whole phone, both calls and messages in a vibrate mode. On the Droid X, the only way that I've found to do this is to turn the ringer volumn all the way down and then go one more step and it turns it to vibrate. Is this correct? I mean, is there an easier way. I was hoping for a widget or something that I can just hit and it would put it in vibrate quickly and then hit it again to return to where I was before.

So for some reason my vibrate will no longer work on texts (haven't got any calls yet should probably try it). A couple of my buddies are having problems with theirs not vibrating too however I did just root and they're running on stock stuff (one just dropped his on his driveway though so he thinks that's the reason).
Is it do to rooting or is it happening to anyone else?

I am new to Android and I'm just curious how I make my Droid X vibrate when I get texts. When I put it in vibrate mode it just vibrates on calls but not texts. Do I need an app for this?

I'm sure there is a way to do this, I just haven't messed around enough, I guess. Whenever I put my phone on "vibrate", it kicks my phone into silent mode for all other alerts, so I never know when I get text msgs or chats. If I go into the settings and uncheck the Silent Mode, it takes my phone's ringer off of vibrate mode. So.... what I'm looking to have happen is to have my phone on vibrate only, and recieve my other alerts as vibrate as well.

So, when i put my phone on a Vibrate (using the volume buttons on the side) it just puts it in Silent Mode, but with a vibration icon. it doesn't vibrate for anything. granted it doesn't make a noise so that's not all bad, but it just sits there and flashes its little light...
Cause i mean it is the easiest way for me to just pop it into vibrate mode, but the vibrate doesn't work, and i don't want it completely silent, as i do still want to know when i get something.

The Droid won't vibrate?? Seriously, can we get this crap fixed?? And don't tell me to use Audio Manager, because that doesn't work either. A "smart phone" should have the capability to vibrate!!!

The vibrate feature for my text and email alerts no longer functions. It is just completely silent (ringer is off, but phone is set to vibrate, not silent). I have the setting for Also Vibrate on Notification checked so my setting are right, it seems. The vibration works for incoming calls, but not my alerts... I did have locale installed which is the only app I can imagine messing with it. I have uninstalled Locale but the problem persists.

I just got my droid x last week and I like it. I only have a couple problems. One I can't seem to getnmy phone to vibrate when receiving txts or calls when in silent mode. I went into settings and I have vibrate set to only vibrate in silent mode but it doesn't.Also it may be just me but it seems like other phones I have the in call volume was extremely loud. My old phone I could hear the person clear as day even holding the phone away from me. With the droid x I have volume maxes out but its not white as loud. Its not that bad I can still hear but I was just wondering. My other speakers such as media work great and are extremely loud. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thank you and God bless.

Can anyone recommend a good app for automatically switching to a profile based on corporate calendar (or Touchdown Exchange) "busy" setting to avoid ringing during meetings. It should switch back at the end of the meeting to the previous profile that was in use. Will Locale do this? The user comments are not too great for that program and it wasn't clear if it would do this so I was hoping to find something else. "Phonealarm" on my old Windows Mobile phone was a great program that did this and allowed tons of other settings as well but does not seem to be slated for development for android.
