General :: How To Trick Apps That Device Is On WiFi When It Is On Mobile Data
Jun 18, 2013Current version of Android (4.2.2).
Want to: run apps that demand to have WiFi on+connected, even when I'm on 3G/4G. (Specifically, I'd be happy if I could get Xfinity TV Player to run on my rooted stock Nexus 4 over HSPA, but again, hoping this thread will attract info about tricking apps in the general case.)
Tried:
A) qaWifiOnlyMode.txt,
B) running WiFi Tether For Root Users and quickly turning wifi on after launching. Neither worked.
Motorola Droid :: BB - New Youtube Mobile Site - HQ - 3G And Wifi
Jul 23, 2010HQ videos don't download fast enough on 3G or Wifi! I didn't think too much of it until my friend came over with his new Iphone 4G. I told him about the new mobile youtube site so that he can see the videos in HQ. He was on the crappy ATT 3G network and was able to play a video in HQ without any problems at all. It was downloading about twice as fast as it was playing. I was very surprised. I then tried the exact same video but it just sat there trying to download. It would play for about 2 seconds then stop. It was really bad. I then turned on my wifi, but it did the exact same thing. I restarted the phone, turned on wifi again, did a speed check so I knew that the wifi was working, then tried it again. Still wouldn't download any HQ youtube video faster than it was playing. I'm just really surprised that my overclocked droid (1.25ghz) on the verizon network (or wifi) couldn't come close to keeping up with the Iphone 4 on ATT's crappy network. I kind of feel like something is wrong here so I though I would ask if anyone else is able to play HQ videos on 3G without it stopping. In other words, is it downloading faster than its playing.

Oct 27, 2010I have a huge set of xmls(2000 files each having 500 lines) to be parsed in Android for fetching the information from it. All the files will be present in the device. I had this to be done in iPhone and i accomplished it by converting all the XMLs to PLIST files. The PLIST processing in a iOS was faster than parsing a XML in iphone. Similarly for android is there any options available? or What are the best way to parse those XMLs in android as i feel the same problem we had in iphone(performance incurred in parsing) will be here also?

Jan 7, 2010This is news to me and I figured i would share it with my fellow Droiders. I just switched from the Eris to the Moto Droid. I figured switching would render my Eris usless because when starting up the Moto Droid, I had to go through an update orientation and had to connect the phone to a number before getting a chance to view the hoem screen. However, my Eris still works. I can not make phone calls, but I can still use it with the Wifi in my house and can play the music that is stored on the memory card. It is like an Eris Touch. I can also still get apps from the Market and update existing apps.

Jun 5, 2010I have an Eris with Android v. 2.1 and a Belkin 54g router. The phone lists my home network in its list of of wifi networks. When I press the entry, an info box says that signal strength is good and security is open. (for the purpose of trying to have my phone connect). When I press "connect," it says "Obtaining IP address." Then after a couple of minutes, it says "Unsuccessful."
My phone has connected to other WiFi networks with no problem; indeed, it has done so automatically, with no effort on my part. My router assigns IP addresses via DHCP. It also broadcasts its SSID, which the phone recognizes.

Jun 8, 2010I'm using the latest Wifi Fix and OverClock kernel for 2.2 Froyo, but I'm still having issues randomly disconnecting from the wireless network... The wifi signal shows 0/3 bars even when sitting right in front of the router.
Froyo Overclocked Kernels includes *wifi* fix is where I got my kernel. I've been overclocking to 1200 GHz.

My first thought was to hold the website in XML, which would be parsed depending on the device.
You have to consider old phones, even devices with only wap support.
For example: The mobile website has to recognize Nokia N75 and render/send the code that looks optimal for this device. Same thing with an iPhone or a Motorola Razr.

HTC Incredible :: 2.2 OTA / NFL Mobile App Over Wifi Connection?
Sep 10, 2010Droid Incredible running 2.2 OTA. When watching live streaming content using NFL Mobile app over my wifi connection(which is Cox Cable), the feed loses its connection after exactly five minutes of streaming. At the five minute mark, the feed will freeze and the V-Cast loading icon will appear spinning, then an error message will appear saying that NFL Mobile could not establish a connection. Back out at any point during this and hit the button to play live content, live content will work again flawlessly for exactly five minutes. Then the feed will freeze, etc...There are no problems with live streaming content when I am using 3G. I have tried using several different routers at different settings and the problem occurs the same with all of them, and I have no problems with streaming content over wifi other than NFL Mobile. This problem also never occurred with the versions of NFL Mobile prior to the current 2.0 version. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? The app streams much better over wifi, but that's not worth having to restart it every five minutes. A big reason of mine for being with Verizon is the NFL Mobile app so if anyone knows anything please let me know.

In both cases, when entering a numeric field (time, distance in metres, etc) I have to take a manual step to change the keyboard layout to show digits. As the app will only accept numeric values in the text box, I'd like to save the user the inconvenience and tell the device "switch to the number pad for this input".

May 12, 2010I am using Sygic Mobile Maps 10 on my N1 and now got if for my girlfriend's i7500. It installed fine but when I start it up and try to activate a map, the screen where it should show the device id is just empty (it shows a -). If I go to the About screen, it also doesn't show a device id. I contacted Sygic already but they don't know anything about the i7500 and Google doesn't really help either. My current guess is that it doesn't work with the internal memory card as the device id is apparently generated based on the sd card's serial number (Sygic used to distribute the software pre-installed on a sd card). So maybe the software can't recognise the serial number of the internal card and hence can't generate a device id...but that's just my guess. I just want to avoid wasting money to buy a microsd to install it on there if it turns out that the app is just not working with the i7500 for other reasons...

I want to ensure that only the mobile device can perform actions on the web service and vice versa. Data doesn't need to be encrypted. I know Oauth, but it seems that it's more used to secure connections when you got 3 different entities (Server, Consumer and Auth). Here, the Consumer and the User would be the same person. Is there a simple protocol to do that (without requiring the user to login and then authorize the access token like it is the case for Oauth)? I need to use it on different plateforms, so the protocol needs to be available at least on iPhone and PHP.

It works great with a Wifi connection, but I get the IOException "The target server failed to respond" with a Mobile connection (3G, Edge, etc.). It doesn't seem to be a timeout problem (I set it to 90s). The use of HttpGet works perfectly with both Wifi and Mobile connection... Any idea of where the problem could come from?
