Jun 14, 2010Are we able to use Wifi and Mobile Network simultaneously?? Or if I want to use Wifi do I HAVE to turn off my mobile networks in order for it to work?

Oct 4, 2010I love my aria, i got it 9/29/10, for free from best buy because my contract expired... but ive already used 20MB and i only bought a 200MB plan... i might go to 2 gigs, but for an alternate, since my billing cycle ends the 28th of every month... if i disable application syncing, and mobile network from the hold menu... can i connect to my home wifi network, and go on the internet from there without that using any of my data plan?

Oct 1, 2010Tried 4 ROMs so far, Skyraider 2.5.2 and 3.0, and Virtuous 2.7 and 3.0. My wifi completely turns itself off about a minute after beginning a phone call while on bluetooth. Can anyone please confirm if your wifi stays on and connected while on a bluetooth call, and if so, what ROM, radio and kernel are you running?

Mar 4, 2010I am looking for an app that automatically switches off the cellular radio when wifi is connected and switches it back on when wifi loses connection. I'm not talking about the APN data connection which already does that, I'm talking about the regular cell phone connection.
According to my lack of results searching through the forums, Market, and Google, such an app does not exist yet. Currently the best app I've found to do anything remotely like this is the Airplane Mode Wi-Fi app, which is a manual switch and a slightly cumbersome one at that, not nearly good enough for how often I go in and out of wifi.
The reason I ask for this is because I use Google Voice with SIP and a prepaid plan. I want to use SIP as much as possible to save my prepaid minutes for when I really need them. When wifi and cell are both connected with Sipdroid running and I receive a call, they both ring at the same time. To be sure I don't accidentally use prepaid, I usually reject the call and call back over SIP, which is slightly annoying for both me and the caller.
HTC Desire HD :: Mobile Network Widget - Switching Off/on Mobile Network Setting From Home Screen
Oct 29, 2010I have been trying to find a way of quickly switching off/on the Mobile Network setting from the home screen. When searching Google there's loads of pages stating that it is an HTC Widget that can be added. I have checked all the widgets on the Desire HD and cannot seem to find it anywhere. I am using an unbranded handset.
The Desire HD manual even states "You can also add widgets that allow you to quickly switch on or off certain settings of your phone, such as Wi-Fi, Mobile Network...".
Does anyone else with an HD handset have this widget ?
Android :: Making Request Over Mobile Network When WiFi Enabled
Nov 19, 2009Is there any way for an application to force a network request to go over the mobile network if it's available in preference to WiFi? I'm looking at ConnectivityManager#setNetworkPreference, but there's no documentation, and looking at the source seems to suggest it's setting a global preference somewhere which isn't what's required here - I just need to force certain requests that need to go over the mobile network to ignore WiFi.

I have to go to settings, turn off "enable data access over mobile network," then cycle WiFi on-off several times before the phone will connect to my home router. Router has two channels, both a WPA2 encrypted one, and a "home guest" (open) one. Both show up as disabled until I cycle the WiFi off and on several times. There must be a setting to tell the phone to prefer WiFi -- no?

But when i connect my phone to the wifi all the data tries to flow for the wifi which is slower than 3G (in this case).

May 18, 2010Just a quick question for anyone interested: Earlier today, I was running low on battery. I decided to toggle Internet access (mobile network) in order to save battery. However, I'm quite reliant on Google Voice. Throughout the day, I turned the mobile network back on briefly to receive messages. Is this constant on/off bad for the 1x/EV radio?

Jun 6, 2010I am having an issue with my HTC Droid Incredible. When going to Settings>Wireless and networks and looking under Mobile Network, it says "Turning on." However, it stays in that mode and never "turns on."Things I have tried
1. Restart the phone/taking the battery out
2. Reset the phone to factory settings by going to Privacy in Settings
3. Contact Verizon and have them remove and re-add the data plan
I have noticed that, when I call *228, and try to activate the phone, it says an error occurred and it could not activate the phone. I can make phone calls from the phone, but cannot do anything that requires a data plan, meaning that it is an issue with that. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this issue?
HTC Incredible :: Mobile Network Won't Turn On
May 3, 2010For the past 30 minutes, my Incredible has had zero bars...no 3G and no 1X. I tried to open the web browser and it said no data service could be found and that I needed to enable wifi or the mobile network. I checked the settings for the mobile network and it says "turning on" and it's greyed out. What's going on here? I've already tried turning it off/on again 3 times now.

May 5, 2010So I'm just curious if anyone else is seeing this. I understand wi-fi sleeps after 15 minutes of inactivity, but I guess I assumed mobile networking would always stay on. What I'm seeing is, if I leave my phone alone for a little while, as soon as I wake it up, the 3G symbol is not displayed. A second or two later it will show up, and then it will sync. This behavior makes it so that my Gmail push is not as instantaneous as it would be if the 3G always stayed active. I believe (although I'm not positive), that the phone must wake 3G every once in awhile to get e-mails though, although it might just wake up when i get a text or phone call.
I don't see this as a major problem, especially if it's helping me save battery life, but I am curious if this is due to a setting, or if it's just the way the phone works.

May 7, 2010I recently switched from a Blackberry Storm to my first smartphone the HTC Incredible. So far, I'm very happy with the switch and enjoy everything about the HTC Incredible.I'm having a problem with the MOBILE NETWORK being disabled when I'm connected to WI-FI (my home network or any other WI-FI hot spot). Is this suppose to happen? Is there any way to allow this not to happen?? Why does this happen? The problem I'm running in to is when receiving or sending MMS / SMS text messages with pics, I am getting a "MESSAGE NOT DOWNLOADED - GENERIC NETWORK FAILURE" message in my status bar.

We need to connect to two distinct networks at the same time - We need data traffic to be properly routed to the appropriate network based on its IP address - We need both radios (WiFi and 3G) on and active. This can easily be done on the iPhone, but not sure if it can be done on the Android.

Jul 31, 2010I have a stock inc and for some reason it won't connect to my home WiFi network. It will connect to other wifi networks. I turned off WEP just to take that variable out of it. No idea what the problem is. I have also hard reset it.

Jul 4, 2010I used to keep my SSID broadcast at home disable, and four computers have never had a problem using the network. Only my Incredible doesn't seem to be able to reconnect to a remembered network not broadcasting its SSID. In fact, if I turn off the SSID while the Incredible is connected, it instantly drops the WIFI connection. Anyone have luck having the Incredible use a network without the SSID being broadcast constantly? I'm using WPA2 if that makes a difference.

Sep 10, 2010Droid Incredible running 2.2 OTA. When watching live streaming content using NFL Mobile app over my wifi connection(which is Cox Cable), the feed loses its connection after exactly five minutes of streaming. At the five minute mark, the feed will freeze and the V-Cast loading icon will appear spinning, then an error message will appear saying that NFL Mobile could not establish a connection. Back out at any point during this and hit the button to play live content, live content will work again flawlessly for exactly five minutes. Then the feed will freeze, etc...There are no problems with live streaming content when I am using 3G. I have tried using several different routers at different settings and the problem occurs the same with all of them, and I have no problems with streaming content over wifi other than NFL Mobile. This problem also never occurred with the versions of NFL Mobile prior to the current 2.0 version. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? The app streams much better over wifi, but that's not worth having to restart it every five minutes. A big reason of mine for being with Verizon is the NFL Mobile app so if anyone knows anything please let me know.

May 29, 2010My eris has always has pretty alright battery life, what I would expect out of a smartphone, if unplugged at 9AM it usually was running on its last leg around midnight. I've had it for over 5 months now, I've always had it activated on alltel, I installed the 2.1v3 leak before the official OTA was out and just lately it seems like there something very wrong with my battery life...
If I unplug my phone at 9AM within the past week and occasionaly check and respond to a text message, my battery had been down to almost 30% by NOON... what?..
I have noticed that if I disable Mobile Network (3g/1x data), the thing lasts all day and some... If I turn mobile network ON, I can't see that I have any network traffic or any apps running in the background that are syncing data at all... I've had google account sync mess up on me before and have to reset my google account because it gets stuck in a syncing loop, but its not doing that, already checked. Very weird.
Anyone thing it could be something wrong in my ##PROGRAM#/##778# provisioning menu, maybe something got changed?.. Maybe it could be do to Alltel's AT&T merger that's happening right now, maybe some 3G tower's radios are turned off or something...

I've installed Froyo on a T-Mobile branded Desire. After the update, turning on USB tethering leads to immediate loss of mobile network - it just turns itself off. Same goes for the mobile Wifi hotspot: turn on -> for 2 seconds, it's working -> mobile network drops off. Moving into airplane mode and back brings back the network, but tethering is a goner. With 2.1, USB tethering had worked. I'm on Base, a brand of e-plus. I've talked to their customer services, they say Base absolutely supports tethering.
