Motorola Droid :: Unable To Put Out A Donate Version?
Oct 19, 2010
I'm a lil torn here, so I figured I'd pose the question to my Droid brethren. I absolutely loved xScope until recently. It was the fastest and the I was very comfortable with the layout and the one finger zooming. But the whole update to the trial version just really ruined the experience. Is it wrong for a Dev to make an app paid, no, not at all. But with so many free browsers to choose from, why couldn't you just put out a donate version?
I had Dolphin HD already for downloading files as it seems to be the most reliable, but never really used it for surfing. And now I know why. It's the most annoying browser I've ever used. I hate having to scroll to the top of the page to change tabs, it's slower (even with their Fast Browser addon), and that stupid menu thing that keeps getting in my way when I scroll to the right is the stupidest feature I've ever seen.
I'm currently using Skyfire, but the app just closes on me way too much. I've never tried Opera, so I guess I'll have to give it a go. What say you?

I've been trying to download some different weather and clock apps and they all say to have the Weather widget donate version first. I can't seem to find that though.

Some guys gave me the idea to add donate button in mobile apps instead of adding ads.
I search in google, but i couldn't find useful information. It seems that this is impossible for iPhone. There isn't information for BB and i found one discussion for Android.
Do you have experience with such implementation? Is it possible?
I have an idea to add link to web page(simplified for web) where i will place paypal donate button. What you think about this idea?

I've synced my android repository just after android sdk 1.6 announced, but found some problem to install my apps with native code (so built by NDK 1.5_r1) then.
I tried to build NDK with the latest source code, bu unfortunately, faile again :( .
So is there any way to get particular version of android source code? for example the android-1.5r3 tag. Would be great if some command like "svn switch /foo/bar/1.5r3" is available.

You need to have Internet permission. Instead of using thewebview, you are better off using the Bowser activity for this.

Is it possible to preview the skins somehow before downloading and installing or do you have to go one by one installation to find one you like?

I just recently updated my phone to 2.2 using the new 2.2 SBF. My phone is running great now after fresh install. I thought the SBF would flash a new bootloader version like the OTA. I think the OTA is 30.03 that changed signatures preventing downgrading. Anyway after I flashed the new SBF I looked at the bootloader version and it was still 30.01. Dose anyone have any info on this?

I just got my Droid X yesterday, I just now got an OTA update to version 1.13.604.en.US. I think it's odd, that's still 2.1-update1. What gives?

The OTA downloaded but failed to install on my X running rooted 2.1 and nextheme. No apps deleted or other mods of any kind. I removed the theme and decided to go with the leaked version rather than deal with new restrictions on the OTA. I tried installing the stock 2.2 version in rom manager and it failed. I wiped the phone and rerooted and installed bootstrap and rom manager then tried again and it failed. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Im just wondering what software version everyone has on their phone. Mine is 1.13.516. I know .514 is the oldest then .516 and .604 is supposed to be the most recent. Does anyone have .604?
If you want to look it up go to Menu>Settings>About phone>System version.

My set CPU won't update to the new version on market I had a different app do this and I had to uninstall it and reinstall it to fix it. I'm hesitant to do that for this app cause its a paid app and I don't want to pay twice to reinstall it. Any ideas to fix this would be great.

Hopefully just a mini emergency. Last I knew I was still running the original .9 leaked 2.2 froyo update. Tried installing bootstrap to upgrade to TBH's leaked .15 update and now my phone is stuck in the boot cycle the first time I tried booting in bootstrap recovery. I pulled the battery and tried booting into recovery, wiped cache and data, still can't get my phone to boot. Searched to see how to remove the bootstrap through adb to no avail. Figured it would just be easier to sbf, but remembered that was bricking a lot of people. Checked my bootloader and I'm on 30.01, but can't remember which version bootloader works with sbf. I found that 2.2 official OTA upgrades the bootloader to 30.03, but I'm still really afraid to sbf without confirming I'll be ok.

My husband has an HTC Inc running froyo 2.2; swype on his phone has a different look to the keyboard and seemingly better functionality. Is there a difference in the version pre-loaded on the droid 2 (just got mine last night)?

All credit for this animation release goes to Fab, I just made all the images about 20% smaller in file size (not dimensions). The best place in my opinion for boot animations is data/local. This allows you to keep your stock boot animation in place if you ever decide to delete this new one. The system looks here first anyway for the animation file, then in the system folder. Also if you flash a new rom, and don't wipe data, it should stay in place.

just announced and released, a new version of Skype that CAN use wifi, something everyone was clamoring for. I have not loaded up yet, but might try later today and see how wifi works. it is getting okay Comments, but not great. Huge 14mb - which for rooted people is okay as we can force it to the SD card as it is not native SD card app though. No video ability. apparently sign-out or logging off is a bit tricky and hidden.

I hate being forced by some websites to view their functionally challenged "mobile" version. The standard versions look amazing on the Droid! I assume the sites are reading the useragent string from the browser and forcing the redirect. Any way to change what the useragent is reporting? I've searched quite a bit and haven't found a resolution.

I built my own car mount and want to get your opinions on it. I wanted to design myself because I REALLY didn't want another thing sticking off my windshield or out of a cup holder. This a the 2nd version of it and I am already planing the next version to be a solid black Plexiglas instead of the clear. I didn't count on the tape I used to be gray. Take a look and let me know what you guys think.

I was browsing their site for a car mount and saw this gem lol. THe media dock and charger for home, the car mount and a car charger for normally 90 dollars on sale 40 dollars off for 50. Quite a steal IMO, just thought I would share.

Looks like there is a newer version of Google Maps in the market than that which is on the Droid. On the Droid = 3.2.0 in market place is 3.2.1. I installed it and the navigation and all still seems to be there. Not sure what was in the updates but it did upgrade the version number.
