I recently rooted my Droid and had it all set, but I decided I wanted to try the official 2.1 update. Now I manually installed the official update, but have that pesky Superuser app that wont go away. I understand I need to re-root my device, but I am unsure of how to do that, and the tutorials don't really help. Also do you think they would let me return the phone with that one app on there?

I downloaded universal androot and rooted my phone. I then immediately un-rooted my phone and rebooted.Now I can't delete the superuser permissions app from my app drawer?? Plus I cant delete universal androot?Plus since I un-rooted will I receive the OTA update to 2.2?

Also, I have been more seeing people mentioning "Superuser" app recently - like OMJ. Well, when you search "Superuser Permissions" in the Market they show the app "Superuser" and not "Superuser Permissions".. what's up with that? So, I tried to download "Superuser", but I get a Failed Installation app.

When the official 2.2 comes I plan on sbf'ing back to 2.1 to get that update since I am having a couple small issues with the leak. Questions are, since deodexing worked on the leak it should work the same way on the official right? to re-root, it sounds like people have been having luck using the droid 2 method in adb, so I should be able to run that to get root back? Themes for the leaked 2.2 should also work for the official 2.2 too? Or is this the same "we dont know till it actually comes" issue?

Any takers on how to actually launch the program that requires root or what to do with this screen?

So for the past year I have been using a blackberry bold 9700. At the time when I bought the phone, AT&T didn't have any really appealing android offers. Anyway, the captivate came out, and it seemed like finally there was a good, high end android phone for my carrier, despite AT&T's usual bloatware BS. So I went onto craigslist and found some dude who was willing to sell his captivate for 200 bucks + my bold 9700 (side question, was that an OK deal? I feel like a little less money would have been fair).So we met traded, I'm finally on android, I love the phone, but there is one problem.There is an application on the phone called superuser permissions that I can't delete.I found out it's a program used for rooting.Even though I plan to root my phone eventually, I don't want to root it yet (I'll wait until froyo is released for my phone), and I would rather just root it myself and know what I did to my phone, if that makes any sense.
To make matters a little trickier, I use a mac. I can transfer files between my phone and my computer by going into usb debugging, but the samsung only has drivers that work with Windows... I don't know if that's a problem or not but I just thought I'd mention it.
I've successfully unrooted in order to return the phone for a replacement but I'm still seeing the superuser permissions app.
My method for unrooting was opening up terminal on my phone and using this code:

Make it so you can actually read and tell which apps you have given permissions to. It worked fine installing with clockwork but I had to actually do it from recovery. I tried it first using rom manager cause I am lazy and it failed. Not sure why.It works for me on cyanogenmod 5.0.6.2 but Im not sure it works on other roms. Probably best to clear all your current permissions before flashing this.

Before doing so I decided to learn up a bit on DOS/Linux commands to sort of understand what the heck was being typed when I looked at what others did to their rooted droids. So I rooted the droid, hid all of those unnecessary apps, and even flashed 2.1 onto it. 2.1 was cool but with Sweeter Home 2 beta almost out I reverted back to 2.0.1 to use that instead.Now just today I decided to start all over, I wanted to revert my droid back to stock, fresh out of the box. Hell I even had to re-activate. But one thing remains, the damn Superuser app that appears. It just wont go away. What gives?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was messing around with my phone being bored and went into the superuser permissions app. I was looking at all the entries that were in there and I know that it's just a list of permissions you've allowed on your phone. Anyway I wanted to see what would happen if I clicked on one of them. Well it cleared it from the list and I just clicked on all of them so when I'm in the SU app there is nothing there. Now when I try and get into one of my apps that require permission it tells me it requires root and doesn't have permission. So it looks like I blocked all permissions for my rooted apps. The question is how do I get it back? I'm sure I can just reflash a nandroid backup I have but I was wondering if there is any other way?

I decided to give up so I want to restore my droid to factory settings, but when I rebooted my phone into recovery mode and factory reset, there is a superuser app in the app menu. 1. What exactly is "freezing" an app? Will it remove the app from the app drawer? Will it just prevent it from running?
2. Can I use Titanium backup to delete apps that are safe for delete like amazon.mp3, etc?
3. If I "freeze" an app like backup assistant will it still be on the phone so that it doesn't brick if I do a reset?
4. Can I delete or freeze things like crap ringtones so they don't show up when I am setting a ringtone?
When I delete emails for gmail on my phone, will they delete online also?

Motorola Droid - Original
1. Rooted 2.1, then
2. OTA Stock Update to 2.2, then
3. Seem to have lost root, However - I still have the Superuser Permissions Icon.
I use Barnacle for WiFi Tether - I get a "Permission Denied" error when I try to start the application. I also went into the terminal emulator and tried an "su" which also gave a permission denied response. I tried "sudo" and also got permission denied response. Others have told me this is common with this progression of events. However, How do I now ROOT 2.2 in this scenario?
