Motorola Droid :: Should Calls Use 1% Battery Per Minute?
Feb 12, 2010
I've had my phone for a couple weeks now but I don't make too many voice calls. Right now I'm down to 40 percent battery after a day of pretty heavy usage but I've only made a few calls totaling 7 minutes in all. These calls have used 7% of the battery according to the battery usage. I've been in great service areas and I just didn't expect calls to use this much power. Is something wrong or is this normal?

I'm as just at 30% battery after 10-11 hours of use and made an 8 minute call, first of the day, and suddenly it was down to 20% and said voice calls had been 25% of my battery for the day. what is going on?

Question for others who use a Bluetooth headset with their Droid X. I was on a call using my headset for about an hour. During that time, my battery went from 100% down to 60%. Is this normal? This was with a phone I pulled fresh off the charger. When I make calls just using the phone without Bluetooth, it barely drains at all. Anyone else experiencing this?
I went to the Verizon store and the guy there basically said that this phone only had 3 hours of talk time and that is why it drained so much and that with the Bluetooth on it would make it worse. I've used other phones with Bluetooth and not seen battery drain like this.

I just got this app for my x and fascinate. it's amazing. when connected to wifi, my computer notifies me of my texts, calls, low battery, etc. it is great when i am working, and i even love it when i am at home, as my entertainment center is controlled by a PC. check it out. best app all week. i am certain this belongs in another part of the forum, but i really only browse the x and fascinate sections, and i know a lot of you just stay around here too, and i thought you all might find it really useful.

I'm not much of an OP man but I've been struggling with this for awhile so I have to ask.
Menu > Settings > Sound & Display > Screen timeout
We all know the setting, but when I change this to 1 minute it ALWAYS goes back to 30 seconds for some reason. I'm not sure if it's after a reboot or not but it's annoying as hell. As I do appreciate the help please don't tell me about screenmode widget or any widget to KEEP the screen on as this is not what I wan, I want it to timeout after 1 minute not 30 seconds.
Running BB V0.8, one of Chevy's Kernels, some good apps some bad.

I am on Three UK, and I manually searched for an update for my Galaxy Note 3 today, while on my wireless network. My phone showed that a KitKat 4.4.2 update was available which was approx. 391 MB in size. Downloaded and installed it.
The install worked fine, but after the install, my phone seems to be draining the battery at 1% every minute. I have turned off GPS, wireless, mobile data etc. but to no avail.I don't even have Skype installed on my phone (as Google asked some users to uninstall Skype)

I'm looking for a capability like my previous WinMo devices had, mainly for security if I lose my phone or leave it unattended. I'd like to be able to activate the screen after its 1 minute timeout without doing the swipe pattern. But, if the device is unused for "x" hours, I want the unlock swipe to be required.

I know this comes in some ROMs and maybe some themes, anyone seen a stand alone option for people in root to add this ability in the MENU bar, not the task bar?

The internal meter says it is due for charge long before its out of juice. Battery Left widget will give accurate voltage levels, but it too is fooled, even after proper calibration.

Rooted Droid 1, running LFY 1.9 with it's 1ghz kernel, SPRecovery. Had a weird issue recently; the phone displayed that my battery life was at 40%, then probably ~30 minutes later it was down to 20%. I wasn't using it during that time, I just unlocked the screen to check something. Anyway, I opened my browser and within a minute or two I got the "15% battery life remaining" message, prompting me to connect my charger. I decided I would allow the phone to just die and shut itself down. So I waited ~45 minutes and it went down to 10%, then almost immediately to 5%. I turned on the GPS just to make it drain faster... I watched a one-hour television show and when it was over, I glanced over to the phone to see if it had died - nope, still on. I turned the LED light on, leaving the GPS running for ~25 minutes and it finally powered down. Then I plugged it in to charge and left the room. Came back in about 2.5 hours later and picked up the phone - it was very hot. Unlocked the screen and checked SetCPU and it was running ~135?F but it immediately started cooling down. It was fully charged, however so I unplugged it. I went to bed shortly thereafter and the battery life displayed 90% as I set the alarm to wake me up the next morning. I happened to wake up shortly before the alarm was set to go off and I picked up the phone to disable the alarm and noticed the red 'charge me' light blinking - unlocked the screen to see 5% and just then it powered itself down.
TL;DR -- Phone only got hot that one time, phone hasn't gone dead in stand-by mode again like it did that night. Battery drains at a seemingly normal rate based on my regular use from 100% down to 40%, then it rapidly drains after that, always skipping 30% and when it gets down to 5% it stays alive for quite a long time under heavy load. Is there a way to 'teach' the phone how to check and calculate actual and remaining battery % and to display it correctly? Is it kernel-related? I heard somewhere about doing a 'battery wipe' but I am unsure what that entails and searches are proving fruitless for me so far.

Does anyone else find that their battery does best at like 60%-70% charged and when it gets below 40 it moves a lot quicker? Also I've done 3 full drain and full recharges so far and my battery has improved sloightly each time, do you reccomend I do it again or is that just bad for the battery?

Background info:
- I'm running the "Battery Left" widget and I have it displaying "estimated percentage left", "system percentage", and "estimated time left until dead".
- I listen to A LOT of Slacker Radio.
My issues:
- I was previously getting about 19+ hours out of a fully charged battery. 2-3 days ago I started having issues with the widget (I think it may have started when I installed an update to the widget) so I recalibrated it to no avail. Then I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. Within a few hours it claimed that it was getting accurate readings (when I first installed the widget weeks ago, it took days to get accurate) and now says that I should be getting 9 hours out of a fully charged battery. I know that can't be right so I'll see how the widget adjusts itself over the next few days, but, any thoughts? (I know a lot of you guys use the same widget and know how it works...)
- Also, In the first two hours of my phone being unplugged this morning, it went from 100% to 70%. I did run Slacker for about an hour and a half of that time, but could it really drain the battery that much that quickly? And I noticed that when I close Slacker, if I go into phone settings, applications, running services - there's still a Slacker update thing running in there. Could that be draining the battery too, even if it's only checking for updates?
- I really don't run a lot of stuff on this phone. I keep wifi and gps turned off. I use bluetooth only a few hours each night. Minimal web browsing. Although, my POP email gets checked every 5 mins (but I just changed it to every 10) and I do use gchat and text a decent amount, but I'd say overall, it's "light" use (except for Slacker which could be a huge drain, right?)

I hope you can help me out by chiming in on this. I've been using my phone a bit, and it looks like my battery goes down by about 10-12% for every 15 minutes I'm on a call. Is this normal? It seems like my battery isn't lasting anywhere near as long as it should. Extrapolating those figures out, you'd be looking at 150 minutes (2h 30m) of call time per charge - way below the quoted time (7h on 3G). Additionally, I seem to be able to lose about 10% of my battery just browsing the web for 10 minutes over 3G. I have GPS off, but WiFi and sync on.Are you all getting significantly better than this?

Have all my outgoing numbers to call with GV - and often (80%) - it will fail to call on the first try and it will ask to retry with GV or use the regular phone - then it connects within a second when I retry. Anyone else have issues? Seems the GV app is not ready quite yet for many other reasons too.

How does one do a 3-Way all on a Droid?
I hit add a call and then once dialed there is a little button that says merge calls. I press that and then nothing. That little aforementioned button nows says manage calls.

My wife just got the D2 a few weeks ago. It was working flawlessly. We put on a Azure case and Skinomi cover on the front screen 2 weeks ago. Starting last week she started to had a few of occasions it doesn't ring but goes straight to voice mail. Not always from the same caller. No unusual apps running. She also always has her Data turned off because she has the $15 dollar plan. She only uses the wifi's. She is not using Google voice. She is getting to the point that she is wondering if she should take her phone back because she has no clue who is calling because it does not say missed call she only knows if they call if they leave a voice mail.

How do I switch calls when I hear the beep (call waiting). Seems my screen goes blank when I hold the phone up to my face, then takes a couple seconds to illuminate the dial pad but the only button I see is to ADD CALL. I want to switch between or back and forth.

This is the only phone that it's ever happened to. Since I got the Droid, I've been missing calls. Not like I have missed calls. The only calls that are okay are the ones that I make. Everyone is telling me that when they call me it rings about 3 times and then just hangs up. Like I ignored it but didn't go to vmail. However, none of these calls are going through at ALL so I'm not ignoring the calls.
Also, everyone is texting me saying that I never texted them back when I know I did.

Following some advice around here, I tried enabling the EVRC-B setting. With that setting on, everything including incoming calls work, with the exception that I cannot make outbound calls. Any outbound calls just sits on "dialing".

Not sure if this is technically the "silent bug" but calls do not even show up on the phone, they just appear as "missed call from...." no noise no other notification. I restarted phone but it did it again right away. Phone does show the 50% bug in battery info.

I see that a new Skype will be coming to the Droid's on Verizon's network this Thursday. Apparently it will allow outbound "Skype-Out" calls over the 3G network. I have a Skype-Out plan and a Skype number I use for my business. With the new Skype application, will calls people make to my Skype number ring the Skype app on my Droid? If so, will this be a huge battery drain if Skype is constantly waiting for incoming calls?

I just got my Droid yesterday and all of the sudden about two hours ago my girlfriend said she tried calling me for the last 40 min and my phone would ring once and go to voicemail. Earlier in the day i called Verizon to cancel my Visual Voicemail and after the rep did that for me he told me to dial *228 and select option 2 to update my roaming features....so I did.
Since then my girlfriend had the issue of her calls going to voicemail and my phone not even ringing. Can *228 cause this issue? Is this a common problem? I called Verizon back and the rep told me to dial *228 and hit option 1 to reprogram my phone. I did it and tried calling my phone from my other line and it is working fine. I can make calls no problem too. I calle my Droid about 15 times and everytime it went through. Is it possible for a specific person's phone to have an issue getting through to another phone?

I'm a newish Droid user, came from Eris. While I love the power of the phone and the capabilities, the actual phone is not exciting at all and I miss the Eris if only for the actual phone. I am constantly told I am hard to hear; usually they say I am grainy, muffled, or tinny sounding. Are there any apps I can use to help make call quality better? I have purchased a very expensive blue tooth, call quality is still bad. Now, with a particular friend, they hear a very annoying beeping sound when talking to me. And only me. I don't hear it but the only time they hear this sound is when talking to me and it's been since I got the Droid (about 2 weeks ago). Any ideas of what this is and how to fix it?

My wife and I both have DroidX phones, and Wednesday I updated mine to Froyo with no problems then last night I updated hers. I've had no problems with mine, but on her phone when making a call neither her or the person being called can hear each other. She called me earlier from the DroidX and I got the call but the line sounded dead. She couldn't hear me nor could I hear her. Is this an update problem or is some setting on the phone not set correctly? I'd assume even if Mute was pressed she could hear the person she called, but she's verified Mute isn't pressed nor is the volume turned all the way down. Any suggestions? Also worse case if I rest the phone to factory would it revert back to Android 2.1 requiring the Froyo update to be reran or did the update flash the ROM as well?

I am going to be spending a little time in Canada for work. I know that if I turn my phone on it will connect to the network and start downloading email, texts, etc. Before I leave for canada I want to set up my phone so that when I turn it on up there, it won't try to get my e-mails. I also want to find away to stay in contact with my wife through the wifi. I do have google voice, so is there a way to use that to talk to her? The hotel does have wifi so I need to be able to turn off 1x, 3g, 2g, or whatever the phone uses to connect to the network but leave the wifi on. I would love some suggestions on how to keep in touch with my wife without getting charged for it. When I am in the hotel I will be using skype to talk to her through my laptop, but I wont be in the hotel during the day.
