Android :: Use Own Map Layer In Google Maps
Jun 23, 2009I have a GIS layer, that holds information about some areas. It is basically a rating for a specic area. So each shape defines a specific rating. I would like to be able to add this layer to Google Maps and then in my Google Android phone be able to open a little application that just shows that rating based on your current location as a big number on the screen. I am fairly new to Android development, so I don't know the Google Maps API that well yet. I would be very happy for any pointers in the right direction and even happier if anyone could present an example.

Dec 30, 2009I dont know wether this is the right place to post this, but I had a great idea for a implementation of Contacts within google maps. Maybe it is already possible or someone already is developing this, but here it is: Add a selectable Layer to the Google Maps on the Android system that integrates with the Contacts list and shows them in Google Maps. Only contacts with an adress can be shown in Maps and have to be in a certain format ofcourse. Also, you have entered a contact's adress information, from the Contact's menu with 'Call' and 'Text you should be able to use 'Navigate to', which is a Google Maps route from your current location to this person's house.

Oct 7, 2010I am extremely happy with my DX. My only complaint is the quality of the camera in low light. Every picture I take looks grainy. At times the flash washes everything out. I know it's just a camera and I shouldn't expect much, but for such a great device that does everything else, it's a bit of a bummer. I've been looking at low light photos from the SF and they appear to be worlds apart. Does anyone have any hints to get decent looking photos in low light?

Feb 12, 2010I used the Droid/Google GPS over Christmas to get from Tx to Fla... smooth as butter. Satellite view of the route was amazing.Since then I've rooted with SMUpdater and installed the newest Google Maps, as well as SetCPU, running at 800,000.I used the GPS yesterday and though it worked great, it was a bit laggy, took a while to fill in with satellite view from time to time, especially if I tried to zoom in at any point.Is the rendering of the map reliant more upon the speed of the processor or upon the speed of the internet -- and could any of the updates or mods affected this/

Feb 19, 2010Lots of time while driving in an area i am not familiar with, I just want to keep google maps up so I can double check where I am going/at. I am not using navigation or directions, just seeing how far I am from hwy, if there are other roads to bypass traffic, etc.
I normally just keep my phone at this point in the cupholder, and will pick it up at a red light to glance at it.
Of course, i have about 5 seconds as the light has already turned green, and of course, the screen has already blanked out. So now i have to hit the power button, hard to find with one hand and maybe the keybd is out, then unlock phone, etc.
I read some threads about different programs, screebl, etc, but I just want that when google maps is up, the screen never blanks out. Ideally, it would be great if the screen dims, and if you touch it it comes back to full power, but that is the ultimate way. Just staying on is fine.
Motorola Droid X :: Google Calendars / No Support Schedules Added
Sep 2, 2010From my computer, I can log into my Google calendar and not only does it have my personal calendar, but it also includes the weather, US Holidays, and various sports schedules that I have chosen. On my Droid X, I was able to add the weather & US Holidays to my calendar, but not the sports schedules.
Also, I previously had a BlackBerry, and anytime I would accept Facebook events from my BlackBerry, it would automatically add it to my calendar (which was synced with my Google calendar). I don't think my Droid X has this same feature.
Android : Pass Camera Data To Native Layer?
Nov 3, 2009In my application i want to pass the camera data to native layer. what is the best possible approach for doing the same.
I know it can be done 2 ways.
1.start the camera in application and pass the preview data to native layer. But i feel this may consume lot of resources.
2.Start the camera directly in native layer and use it. So JNI will come less into picture. and not much resource loading also.But dont want to take any risk by using the lower layer code which may change in future.
Is there any other approach ? start the camera and tap the data in native layer. I think this wont be proper approach, Can any one suggest ?
Motorola Droid :: Installation Of Google Maps Was Unsuccessful.
Jun 6, 2010I went to the Market today and noticed Google Maps was automatically updating (I'm using Froyo 2.2 on the Moto Droid). After it downloaded, it said Installing... then it said "Installation of Google Maps unsuccessful". When I go to the app in the market itself, it says "A manual update is required." However, when browsing the "Downloads" section, there is no "Update available" next to Google Maps. all it says is "free" as if its not even installing when it is indeed installed. Anyone know how to fix this issue?

Jul 27, 2010I'm running bb 0.4, chevy 1.2LV, black glass theme on my droid. Is anybody else having a problem installing the google maps update? I tried yesterday and got an error that I think said something about a problem w/ the service pack.I tried probably 5x last night to install it from the market but didn't have any luck. Today I tried twice and again I get an installation error, however it doesn't say what the error is specifically.It takes about 4 minutes to download then when it gets to installation it says "installation unsuccessful"
