Motorola Droid :: ROM Manager / Flash Different Recovery Image
Apr 1, 2010
Seems like ROM Manager is coming alive pretty good lately. With the ability to flash other ROMs, flash different recovery images. Only thing is you need clockwork with ROM manager and I am not to keen on that. I starts with sprecovery so maybe I am just afraid of change or learning something new. Just seeing what everyone else is thinking. But ROM manager is a great tool, for people that like the greatest ROM and flash it.

I'm currently running JRummy's Remix - Cyan V0.6 with SPRecovery. I wanna start using ROM Manager, but I can't seem to flash to Clockwork Recovery from inside ROM Manager. Am I doing something wrong? I'm relatively new.

I used the Simple Root Technique completely. My phone is done. (used Simple Root 1, not OTA). Now, I'm trying to backup my phone with ROM Manager and then flash a ROM. (is this needed?) I downloaded ROM Manager and when I click "Flash Clockwork Mod Recovery" (to set it up on my phone) it gives me "An Error Occurred While Trying to Run Privileged Commands!" After I rebooted after the Flash Recovery in step 3 (which I thought installed Clockwork..or maybe not, I don't know) it gave me the option of putting data that was backed up onto my phone from the SD card....I said "Cancel" instead of allowing it. Was that a mistake?? Do I need to redo this entire process from scratch?? What am I doing wrong? If I don't need ROM Manager, then how do I enter Clockwork without it (from the 3rd step/process from Simple Root)? Am I doing an unnecessary step here by downloading ROM Manager? What exactly did Flashing Recovery in Step 3 of Simple Root do? Should I just flash a ROM over what I have? I am completely new to this.

Does anyone use this app? Can anyone vouch for it for the Sprint Hero? I am thinking of flashing its ClockworkMod Recovery since I have been having issues with the Recovery Image 1.6.2.

I hit the top button. Flash Clockworkmod recovery or what ever it said. I then backed up my Current ROM. I then downloaded Cyanogen v6.0.0 cr2. It downloaded and rebooted my phone. But It went to a screen with a Triangle w/ exclamation and a phone under it. I then hit the up vol button and camera, and now I'm at the Android system recovery page and I don't know what to do next. These are my options reboot system now apply sdcard:update.zip wipe data/factory rest wipe cache partition wipe base band data. I did click to backup current ROM and wipe data and cache.

I have rooted my eris to 2.1. Then yesterday I flashed the recovery image and the flash image and put on grd lock's Vanilla Rom. If I want to put on a different Rom, do I have to flash the recovery image again?

So every time I open up ROM Manager and click on anything it says "You must have CLockworkMod recovery installed before continuing! Install the recovery through ROM Manager first." Then gives an "Install" and "Cancel" button. What should I do. I have the bootstrap loader installed. Just upgraded to premium because I support the dev.

Very simple can we use Koushik's ROM Manager / Clockwork recovery rom to restore past Nandroids created using SPRecovery .0.99.3b? Even if I boot right into the clockwork ROM and perform a restore from the ROM itself like we do with SPRecovery. Or do I have to push SPRecovery back in order to restore my archived ROM's and other dev's ROMs that use SPRecovery.. like Pete, AdamZ, Chevy, etc. I'm sure it's been answered but I also can't be the only one who's unclear.

My X is already rooted. It's running the 2.2 leak and have FlyX 0.1 installed. (Theme or ROM? Doesn't matter)
Yesterday: Decided to reboot my phone. Came back 20 minutes later and it was stuck at the Motorola logo. Pulled the battery and it booted as usual.
Today: I want to install the 2.3.15 update. I am trying to reboot into CW Recovery via ROM Manager, yet it won't reboot. It asks if I want to, I click yes, and it does nothing. Tried manually rebooting it. Same thing as yesterday. Stuck at logo and battery pull fixed it.
Anyways all I want to do is install the 2.3.15 update. Can someone please help me? I don't know what's going on.

There are probably threads about this already that my lurking has missed, but I'm trying to install the flash_image and recovery-ra-eris.img. I tried using this,
How To: Load a Custom ROM on the HTC Droid Eris (Updated ? 04.08.2010) | TheUnlockr
but when I get to adb shell flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-ra-eris.img, I get an error saying the flash_image not installed. Is there a better and/or easier way to get the flash_image and recovery-ra-eris.img install on my eris so I can get a nandroid backup? I really want to back everything up before I attempt to throw kaosfroyo on there.

I just downloaded the latest version of ROM Manager and to my surprise there is a menu option to flash the latest version of SPRecovery. You cannot use ROM Manger to backup and restore stuff from the program using SBRecovery but it is still a nice convenience to have a menu driven interface to switch from SB to Clockwork. Last night an option was also added to fix system permissions. ROM Manager is progressing quite nicely (although I still prefer to flash and backup the old fashioned way).

I have just recently rooted my wife's phone because she saw a couple of themes she wanted and I informed her the only way to get themes like what she was looking at (J-Rummy's Pink Life) was to root and rom the device and then theme it. So what I did was just root the phone using RSD Lite by installing SPRecovery on her phone and then applying the root update.zip file to the device. No problems from that point on. I did that a few days ago. I just went ahead and purchased Rom Manager for easier application of Roms/Themes. I downloaded Lithium Mod/Pink-Life Rom and then selected clear data and cache and install. I have run into nothing but problems. I am getting constant force closes, system freezes, reboots, etc. So, first thing I think of is, different kernel. Same thing. I try three different kernels and get the same problems. I then decide to just revert back to her previous setup (clean 2.1 with Root access). Everything is back to normal with no issues at all except for the fact the wife wants a Pink Rom.
I then decide to try BB 0.4, thinking maybe it had something to do with the ROM. I installed it the same way as I did the last one. I did everything through ROM Manager. Got the same results. I just wanted to make sure I listed everything I did so maybe there could be some different insight on what is going wrong, but my question is...is it better to reboot into recovery and wipe data/cache and then install from recovery or just install through Rom Manager? I know that sounds dumb because Rom Manger boots into recovery anyway and does exactly what you would have done, but does it truly do it the same is my question? If the answer is yes, Rom Manager takes care of all that for you, then does anyone know of anything else I could try to maybe get a ROM running on this device without all of these problems? I am running out of ideas. I have even tried installing it through SPRecovery (changing the name to update.zip of course).

i am getting my hero tommorow, but its locked on orange, so, instead of doing the goldcard method, can i just use flashrepc and flash a custom recovery image, then open the generic firmware on my comp, extract the rom.zip, rename it update.zip and do a nandroid, wipe then flash? i only want generic from htc(stock version) not a custom firmware.

To use more features in the ROM Manager app I decided to flash the Clockwork recovery image from Rom Manager.I got the message the image had flashed so I tried to restart my phone to make sure it flashed and to make a nandroid with the new image.Phone would not boot into recovery for me.So I pulled the battery (phone was stuck on "HTC" screen), waited 10 seconds, replaced battery and tried starting the phone in regular mode instead of recovery. That worked. So I tried restarting in recovery mode again.Failed again. Figured the problem was in the Clockworkmod recovery image. So I pulled/waited/replaced the battery again and restarted the phone in regular mode.Used the USB to get to my SD card and went into the file for the Clockwork recovery image and deleted it.Then I pasted the 1.6.2 RA back onto my SD card and planned to flash it.
But I have not been able to flash the image because all my phone does now id get to the "HTC" screen and stays there.Nothing else to show it is booting up.Finally pulled my SD card and put it in my card reader on my computer.Pasted the Clockworkmod recovery image back into the correct folder, thinking I might be able to at least get the phone to boot up in regular mode. No luck.Just goes to the "HTC" screen I see every start-up and stays there. So the 1.6.2 RA is on the root of my SD but not flashed. The Clockworkmod image is back in it's folder but not re-flashed.

Question. Not that it really makes a difference, but for those that upgraded to 2.2 using the ROM in Rom Manager (Download ROM -> Stock Images -> Verizon Droid X 2.2) did your bootloader get changed to 30.01? The original bootloader for .604 was 29.01. When I upgraded using the update.zip to 2.2, it changed it to 30.01.

I'm not really sure how to go about using these now to create a backup and recovery for my phone in case anything ever happens. I have downloaded Droid X bootstrap and ROM Manager so far not really sure where to download Clockwork (if this is even a different app than what I have).Does a tutorial on how to use these things exist anywhere? I did a search on this forum, but it seems like everything is for moderately experienced users.

Current issue is that I my phone will boot just fine into regular startup however it will no longer boot into recovery mode.
I have tried the below methods but the main problem that I run into is that when I issue flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img(I have tried multiple img files such as the clockworkmod and SPRecovery) however none of them have worked they are receive the below message.
# flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
error scanning partitions
What I need at this point is either a way to get some form of recovery loaded either the out of the box version or clockworkmod version working so I can flash my phone and get gingerbread loaded. Or I need to break the OS to the point where the phone will not load past the boot loader.
Phone information:
Droid 2 Global
System Version 2.4.330.A956.Verizon.en.US
Android Version 2.2
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9-g9e2c63d
What I have looked at so far: [URL] .....

I was running a custom 2.2 rom with clockwork recovery installed via Rom Manager.
Anyways, I started having a few problems so I was going to take it to stock and redo everything.
I have the stock 2.1 sbf file and I put it back to my phone using RSD lite.
It installed fine except it changed my PRL number to some weird higher number and now I can't get my phone to activate because it has the roaming triangle and is roaming on US Cellular.
I reinstalled my custom rom and used rom manager to restore the image I had saved before I recovered and all is well except I cannot activate my phone because I can't see a verizon network.
I even went into the programming menu and replaced the SID, MDN and MIN with all the settings in my Droid X but no dice.
I have found a way to write a new PRL but I can't get the HW virtual port app to work. So basically I am stuck.

I deleted /system folder on my nexian cosmic journey. And now my nexian is stuck...
I try to using fastboot mode to flash recovery image, but my device seems not detected. I already installed the android composite driver, but when i use "fastboot devices" command, it shows (?) So how the heck to get my nexian back to normal?..
Or perhaps, if i just be able to put back the /system folder to its place again, it would be more easy to recover it... But how access the root when phone is like that?

I just got a replacement droid in the mail today and am trying to get back to where I was on my old one. I have a nandroid on my sdcard and am trying to flash clockwork recovery so that I can restore my nandroid, but everytime I try to flash recovery I get an error message that says "an error occurred while flashing your recovery". I was able to flash SPrecovery from ROM Manager, but that won't allow me to restore the nandroid that I made in clockwork.
The phone came with 2.1-update1, so I used RSDLite to flash back to 2.0 stock and then rooted that using the original update.zip technique. I then got DroidRootPro, installed busybox, etc, installed rom manager, but thats where I started getting the flash error to begin with. I managed to get back up and running with a pre-clockwork nandroid, but I really want to get my nandroid from earlier today restored from clockwork!

I have finally run into my first issue with rom manager. I think my recovery is broken, i tried almost all the options it says to do if you have a broken recovery such as clear download cache, install past recoveries, install alternative recoveries, etc, nothing seems to be working. I also have a constant spinning circle within rom manager as if its trying to comlete some task. I would really like to flash a new rom but im stuck , any help would be very much appreciated.I guess i got so used to rom manager doing everything for me that i need to learn alternatives.

My friend tried using a ROM Manager on his DX and it doesn't seem to be working right. When trying to flash a ROM it reboots, attempts to boot into Recovery, fails, then boots up normally.
When I boot into into his ClockworkMod recovery manually, it doesn't appear to have all the options like it should. For instance, I cannot create a Nandroid backup or flash stuff from the SD card. Is this normal?
From within the ROM Manger I tried to flash a new ClockWorkMod Recovery but that also fails just like flashing a ROM.
I have an Incredible so I don't wanna screw up his DX so how do I flash a new Recovery for him? I can't create a backup of his stuff so I want to be extra careful.
