Motorola Droid : NON Pandora Internet Radio - 2.2 Programs?
Jun 6, 2010
Just fired up SHOUTcast via TuneWiki and the music is no good. Sounds like a bad mp3 rip when it gets all garbled, if you pirates know what I mean
Tried a bunch of different stations and same thing, with major lag and disconnects. I guess I found the answer, Froyo support TuneWiki does not work on FroYo (partly)
Anyone else having issues with another internet radio program?

I just got my Droid but I frequently use Pandora and Last.FM on my computer at work. Last.FM - Seems like the service has a better list of artists than Pandora so i switched to it on my PC recently. On Android the service is the same but as an app it tends to be open in the background all the time and suffers from not being able to pause (like the PC version). The scrobbling could be nice for some users and it links to the android player. Sound Quality seems excellent, best of the three so far. Pandora - Haven't gotten to use it too much because it takes so long to load my station. Sound Quality seemed fine with my limited use.
Slacker Radio - Has the most music options of the three and seems likes the best application. It has plenty of options like keeping the screen from freezing while plugged in and on wifi without having to change your phone settings. Had to stop listening from poor sound quality though! Sound Quality started ok but a bassy boom and click started appearing after a few songs, forced to switch to Last.FM.

On my Inc, when I played the FM radio or Pandora, my ear buds have a button which pauses or mutes the player. With the DX, when I use this same button, it automatically brings up voice commands and is asking for a command while the music still plays in the background? Anyway to disable this so it just mutes or pauses? It appears that the settings for the voice commands are taking over and I don't know where to change them. I can not delete or uninstall the voice command settings since I use the voice to text.

I use my streaming radio apps a lot...in particular RadioTime and iheartradio so that I can listen to some local programming while I work out. I just downloaded the ESPN Radio app for the same purposes.
These programs seemed to work pretty well at first. I seemed to have a steady signal, the buffering was smooth, etc. Lately not so much. Often times they are so choppy it's not even worth listening....and I don't think it's a signal issue as I have also experienced this when I'm outside riding my bike. And I live in a very populated suburb with extremely strong coverage.
Also I have noticed particularly with RadioTime and the ESPN app that they seem to "time out" after 10-15 minutes. The program will be running along streaming just fine, and all of a sudden it just stops and I have to wake up the phone, turn the stream off and then turn the stream on again to get it rolling. Very irritating.
I figure this must be something in the settings for the phone, since the programs themselves have very few settings.

I am in a deployed location in Afghanistan and within my compound, we utilize satellite internet and broadcast it via WIFI just for us who have paid. Some of the guys here have implemented a few security features so other people around us can hack our network. The WIFI is encrypted with WPA2 and a password. After that to surf on the internet on my laptop I have to input a proxy address of 10.10.8.2, I can connect to the wireless via my Desire, but I cant surf the internet, check email, or do anything that requires a data connection.Other people here have no problem getting their Ipod touches and Iphones on the WIFI.Is there some setting I am over looking because to me there are not a lot of settings I can change in the first place. If I need to download a program to help, please give info how to do so without an internet connection directly on the phone.

Pandora on my phone sucks. It skips and clicks and jams up all the time. I've even force closed, then un-installed, then re-installed it, and I still have the same problems. My brother has a Droid and he says he uses Slacker all the time on his phone so I decided to try it.. It works PERFECTLY! No more skips and horrible noises while I try to listen to the radio on my phone and it works in the same concept as Pandora.
I just wanted to share this with anyone that has the same issues that I have with Pandora and really would like to be able to listen to the radio on their Moment. BTW, i thought that it would use a lot of battery, but it really doesn't seem to. I also got a little cable on ebay that has two male ends like a headphone jack. I plug one end into the headphone hole on my phone and the other end into the "aux" hole in my truck, and it works GREAT through my truck's stereo system.

Ever since I rooted and flashed a couple ROMs my Pandora audio quality has been CRAP. I have searched for answers in this forum and have come up empty handed... I really like the performance I'm getting now that I'm rooted but Pandora is a must have for me - so if I can't get it fixed I'll have to go back to stock - BOO. Does anyone know of a ROM that gives the same audio quality as the stock 2.1 OS? Or does anyone know if I'm maybe just doing something wrong?

I have some strange problem when using pandora connected to my car stereo via aux in. If I start it up, it plays perfectly. If a call comes in, it pauses and takes the call. then resumes just fine after the call. but if I manually pause the music and switch to another app. when I return to pandora and un-pause the music, it plays but sounds "garbled" like it is under water! I have to reboot the droid at this point to get it back to normal.

Wondering if anyone else is having this same problem. I running the new NexBeast and I can no longer run Pandora in the background. If I leave it open I can listen with no problem. But if I hit the home screen to use another app it immediately stops working. In my list of running services it says it's still running and it shows up in my task killer as a running app. Any thoughts?

My brother in law turned me on to Pandora this past weekend. I knew about it and even poked around with it a few years ago, but never "got into" it. Having bailed on renewing my satellite radio subscription recently, I thought it time to check out Pandora. He taught me the ropes and we set up 2 channels to drive home with. Fire it up, worked fine. Turned on the Satellite Layer in maps to show him his neighborhood in a live GPS route - almost immediately Pandora crapped out on us. I presumed it was a bandwidth issue with loading satellite imagery as well as streaming audio. Had to kill the app and restart. On our way back home however, it died again - working fine, fired up another app - one that saves my track logs to a file for later examination. As soon as this app started, Pandora stopped. OK, Pandora needs a clear pallate, whatever, for now, we'll give it to her. Fired it up now a 3rd time - it ran like a champ - playing a new mix much better than what we used to get on XM Radio. Love it, wish I used it earlier. However, it stopped dead in its tracks right about 30 minutes after we started it. Had to go into App Manager and "kill" the Pandora app, then re-start it manually. It ran this 4th time for again, right about 30 minutes. Fired up again and thankfull we were only 20 mins from home, were able to listen to it into the garage.

Pandora has been around on PC?s for years. There?s also news that Pandora will be available in new Ford automobiles. Now Pandora has come to the Android platform. Pandora Radio is a free service that lets you stream your favorite music to your Android phone. All you have to do is type in the name of a favorite artist and Pandora does the rest. The app will create a ?station? based on the genre of music. It then plays the music of your favorite band and anything similar. What I love most about Pandora is it finds new music based on what I already like. Therefore I?m discovering new bands.
Pandora saves your information with your account so you can access your music preferences from any device. If you love discovering new music this is the app for you. Pandora is a must have app for any Android phone including the Motorola Droid and Google Nexus One. You can download this app direct to your android phone. Just scan the QR code below with Barcode Scanner application from Android Market: Check out more Android reviews on GigaDroid.com

I use navigation on my motorcycle and I used to be able to use Pandora at the same time, but lately just keeps stalling. Some seem to think in 2.1 Android's memory management is somehow messing with services that Pandora needs to run. Would installing it as a system app help in any way? I am running Cyanogen 5.0.5.7 if it matters at all.

Ever since I upgraded to the non-official Froyo, I've been experiencing problems trying to get the two to work together. If I'm on hte Pandora screen with the Nav running in background, the song will pause when directions are given (audio priority to Nav) and will not play again until I hit play (note that the song is actually paused in pandora and not just temporarily muted by the Android OS) If I'm on the Nav screen (with Pandora running in background) the song will stop playing when directions are given, and when I hit home to get back to Pandora, I find that it had been terminated completely and I have to restart it.

I have a 2010 Mazda 3 w/ Bluetooth and an auxillary output--I have had no problems w/ the Bluetooth as far as receiving and making phone calls and I play my iPod thru the auxillary system all the time...I just got the Droid 2 weeks ago and downloaded Pandora this past weekend--I can't get it to play thru the Bluetooth (even though the little music symbol shows that it is paired) and I can't play it thru my Droid hooked up thru the auxillary system either.

Just switched from Iphone 3g (used 2+ years) to Samsung Galaxy S w/ Android 2.1 . So far so good and I love the phone. I'm a bit disappointed with SOME of the apps. Mainly there dosn't seem to be an Internet Radio app that allows recording.
On iOS ther was TuninRAdio, this was a perfect app which allowed recording. I have discovered all kinds of new music this way. TuninRadio for Android is nerfed , no recording feature. I've tried a few and many radio apps don't have a record feature. anyone know of a good internet radio app that allows recording?

I like to listen to internet radio stations due to the variety of music i can listen to and also due to the lack of full Flash support yet for 2.1
my 3G & HSDPA signal is excellent almost anywhere....at home, at work and on the road and out and about. i'm with T-mobile (UK) for the past 5 years and i'm very happy with their service. and the signal.
but sometimes the internet radio still buffers sometimes even with an almost excellent signal. why is this? any explanation?
