Motorola Droid :: MotoTorch LED - Camcorder - Video In Low Light Situations
Dec 8, 2009
Due to the multi-tasking capability of the DROID, you can fire up MotoTorch LED to have the LEDs on and then fire up the camcorder for some low-light video recording. Works okay for what it is. I don't think MotoTorch LED fires the LED at full blast like when you take a photo, but it works decently well.

I am not sure which is the culprit, but while playing back video or even at random times, the screen shifts lighter or darker seemingly at random, and one time during a video playback on the TV.com app, it went black altogether. I am not sure whether it is the timer or the ambient light sensor, but I am tempted to turn the sensor off and push the timer back a lot.

I have went through every option I can possibly think of and the quality looks bad. There is no difference upon selecting 720P than any other option. I have seen others test videos and mine is nowhere close.
Update: It seems it was a fluke. All is well with my Evo once again. You may tune back in to your regularly scheduled program.

Has anyone noticed improvements to the Hero camcorder video quality under Android 2.1? I thought I remember hearing that the upgrade might improve this. It's not a big deal, but I was hoping the recorded video would be smoother than the 15 fps under the 1.5 OS. I don't see a difference, but wanted to hear some other opinions.

Where can I get source code for camcorder? Also, it would be of much help to me if anyone could post a simple example for video recording.

I tried editing the media_profiles.xml to get better camcorder fps. Whenever I look at the details of the videos I record from my phone on my computer it shows that the video recorded at 15 fps.

I had a task killer, and life was good. Then I noticed that my GPS was acting up, and after reading this thread (http://androidforums.com/support-troubleshooting/19977-moto-droid-gps-problems.html) I tried uninstalling my task killer, and lo and behold, my GPS starting working great.
And the people rejoiced.
But then I noticed when I took video, I'd get this video pixelation followed by my video and audio being totally out of sync. I followed this thread (Occasional Video Pixelation and Audio/Video Sync Issues - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum) and realized it was basically the phone not having enough free memory off the bat, then getting mucked up in the middle of recording. There's a workaround listed in the thread about taking a dummy video, backing out of the camera app, then going back in, but honestly, that just means I'll stop taking video.
So it looks like it would be great if I could just clear the memory before taking the video, everything would be fine. Unfortunately, this means installing a task manager, and messing up my GPS.
So you see the problem.
I tried managing the apps through Settings > Applications > Running Services but I have no idea what I'm doing in there, and "25mb + 12mb in 4 Other: 62mb in 4" is Greek to me.
To sum up:
Task Killer = No GPS, Yes Video Camcorder
No Task Killer = GPS, No Video Camcorder
Thoughts on how I can get GPS and Video Camcorder to work without a hitch without installing a task manager?

Ours are due tomorrow. On our cheap pocket digital cameras, like the DX, you cannot zoom in camcorder mode.HOWEVER, if you are in camera mode, zoom in, and THEN switch to camcorder mode, the camcorder adopts the currently zoomed in setting.

I've never really used the video-recording until today. After maybe 3-5 seconds of recording, my phone will automatically restart. It's happened 3 out of 3 times, and one of those times it was stuck on the big M [battery pull fixed it]. I am rooted, but not running any ROMs or Themes. I am overclocked to 1.45ghz [if this makes a difference].

I'm running rubix focused .5 and its been great, I installed the camera-search-voice fix and didnt have any problems along with having full camera functionality. Eventually I decided to try the Incognito theme since it had a "blurless" version. I noticed it changed my camera icon obviously but I didnt actually open it. I decided I didnt like it, so I restored my nandroid I made immediately before putting the theme on. Next thing I notice, my camera shortcuts are the generic green apk icon. And they dont work, at all.
I nandroid restore to an even earlier back-up (from right after applying rubix) and still no camera functionality. It doesnt appear in my apps under manage applications, the blurcamera.apk is in the system folder, and I tried deleting/replacing that again, and installing it right from the apk and I get an install failed. I don't understand how I could lose my camera app when I restore to a back-up that had it working fine.

My DroidX was working for the few days with no dead pixels on any of the menu screens, none on any of the software applications, and none on the Camera or Camcorder applications.
On Tuesday afternoon I downloaded and installed the DroidX 1.13.604 Software Update.
My DroidX now has some dead pixels that appear only in the Camera and Camcorder applications, and not in any of the other applications or menu items.
Since the dead pixels only occur in the Camera and Camcorder applications, could it be a software related bug or mayme something else?

I've noticed that lately my Legend restarts by it self in some specific situations, more often when I enter a place with no phone network. I'm going to give an example: I enter the elevator, which has no phone network. The legend shows the network icon with the cross. I exit the elevator 5 minutes have passed and Legend still wasn't able to recapture the network signal. I have to select manually a network to connect to. After this any operation I try to do like send an SMS or try to make a call, the phone just restarts.
This is the most common, but there are other situations where the phone restarts and all of them involve me using it. I'm absolutely sure that the phone does not restarts in standby mode. Maybe a hard reset would fix this, but I would like to now if anybody has this issue, and if there's other option than factory reset. I have all updates installed, some apps installed about 49.

what I would find really usefull is a voicemail greeting selector that would allow you to record different greetings for different situations, personal, business etc. Record and then title the message which then becomes selectable from a menu. Ideally linked to a button or shortcut of some kind.
For example if I am out of the office I redirect all calls to my mobile, if I am unavailable my personal greeting is used via my network provider. Not very professional and to change this every time would be impracticle.

When I use the camera function on my Desire I have the ability to turn the flash for the camera on or off. When using video however, the flash icon has a cross through it and I am unable to turn it on. Is there a way to turn on the LED/flash while recording video in low light situations?

Just have a new htc desire on orange.I can't believe it doesn't even have the option to use the LED light when using the videocam. This is such a great feature when you are out in a bar, pub, or club or just outside at night. I have an old sony and nokia and they both have the feature and I have loads of great vids because of it.I have spent hours searching for apps that might make the LED light next to the camera work but there doesn't seem to be one. This means if you are using the phone as a light you have to use the screen like a numpty and not the powerful led. Should have gone for the xperia as my friend has it and it has this feature.

On the behold 2 there is no light when in the video mode like with the regular behold. Sometimes I would like to shoot videos of the kids outside at night but the lighting is bad. I downloaded momentflash and love it. I used that while video recording it worked great. My only concern is the warning with momentflash that says
"overuse of the flash may damage it especially in bright mode" Is there anything that can be done to have a light when recording? Or to dim the light a bit?

I watch quite a few .mp4's on my Desire, and I'll really like to turn off the the backlight behind the physical buttons if possible, not so much to aid battery life but for the factor they are a bit annoying if you're watching something in the dark. Is this possible? My device isn't rooted.
