Motorola Droid :: Can You Sync Your Hotmail Contacts With Your Contacts?
May 20, 2010
I have searched for an hour and a half with no luck. Is it possible to get your hotmail contacts to sync with the contacts on my droid? I am already not happy with the phones ability to get my mail from hotmail but will deal with that later. Has anyone else sync'd their hotmail contacts to the droid contact list. Sorry if I repeated this thread.

Just wondering if there is an app or a procedure to get your facebook contacts to automatically sync with your phones contacts as well as your google contacts. For instance if you add someone as a friend on facebook and they have their email and phone number filled out in their profile, that information would automatically be added to your phone. Is there a way to do that?

On my Droid there was a setting to only sync Facebook data for contacts who also were Google contacts. On the X, there doesn't seem to be that option anymore. I don't want all of my Facebook "friends" to show up in my contact list on my phone but I would like Facebook data to sync for my actual contacts in my Google contact list. Has anyone figured this out?

Just wondering is their anyway to view my contacts on my hotmail account I've setup on my Desire? I can't seem to find them. Also with a few other HTC phones you can link up your contacts individually to their facebook. With the Desire I've found it just seems to want to add everyone to my contacts. Is there anyway to individually link them?

I seem to be having a sync issue with my Droid. When I add a contact to my phone, it doesn't sync into "My contacts" in Gmail; it'll sync into "All contacts". So, a couple of questions:
1) How can I get the phone to add new contacts created on my Droid into "My contacts" in Gmail?
2) I'm trying to understand the point of "All contacts". Why does Gmail want to keep a list of anyone that I've ever sent an email to? Otherwise, it'll be simple enough to just merge the two groups and call it a day.(Note: When I bought my Droid I did NOT have the VZW sales person transfer my contacts or any data from my old Blackberry to my Droid. I used Google Sync on my BB and synced my contacts from my BB to Gmail, then when I got the Droid, it automatically pulled my contacts from Gmail.)(FWIW, yes, I did a search and found two great threads: http://androidforums.com/support-troubleshooting/15042-how-do-i-push-droid-contacts-back-gmails-my-contacts.html and http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/15069-contacts-dont-really-synchronize.html but I have a different situation than most of those guys and I'd actually prefer to sift through and merge a couple of contacts from "All contacts" to "My contacts" every once in a while than deal with a backup and factory reset.)

I am using a Motorola Droid (via Verizon Wireless) and connect to my Vista desktop via a USB cable, and employ the latest 2010 version of Microsoft Office to keep my contacts and correspondence in order. When I had a Windows based smartphone, all was right with the sync'ing world - as it was nearly seamless... all contacts up to date and accounted for. When I switched devices, all changed, and I had to use a third party program to keep my contacts list current. I tried Mark/Space's The Missing Sync, but found that the only way I could sync my contacts was either via bluetooth or wirelessly (which neither options were possible on the desktop device), but I could sync my music, photos and documents via USB. Gee, thanks. No other way around it, it seems... either it's done wirelessly or not at all. I can see the simplicity and ease of use - if you're set-up for that, but what of those that aren't. Got my $39.95 back in due time. CompanionLink offers a few options... either via USB or directly - through Google. I found that both worked well, but each transferred contacts to my phone - but, transposed first, middle and last names of SOME contacts and not others. Odd. No explanation as to just how or why that happens. I've settled - for the time being - on using the CompanionLink for Google version, and make what changes I require - and keep an eye on just what and where the records are changed. If you make changes to the Google contacts - it does not automatically do the same to the Outlook 2010 files on the connected desktop for some reason. Don't know if or when that happens. Ditto the same if changes are made on the Droid - if and when they get transferred to both Outlook 2010's contact list, as well as the same on Google. Perhaps there is a "special setting" I just haven't come across as yet.

So, I want to be able to sync my gmail "My Contacts" ONLY. Not "All Contacts," as that's pretty much everybody I have ever e-mailed and I don't need them in my phone. I haven't found an answer to this anywhere as it seems like it's not possible on the X. If I go to settings, there's an option to Sync my gmail account or just phone. If I go to display group, I can choose Google again, but not a particular group within google.

Does anybody know what system apk is responsible for syncing and updating contacts profile pictures and statuses from face book.I am 2.2 rooted, bloatware removed and I removed a couple others my self. But don't know what apk to re-install so my contacts automatically update. I used syncmypix but I am not a fan of it. I have downloaded both system apps zip files. I just don't know what I am looking for.

my contacts have doubled since syncing with Facebook. There are some FB contacts I'd like to keep, and others I would like to delete. I plan on deleting those but don't want them to re-appear at a later date. Is there a way to turn off FB syncing after just the initial sync? I think that's my best option at this point.New here so thanks for the info in advance and I hope to get enough knowledge to help out on the forums soon.

I have a Motorola Droid X. I am trying to sync my contacts with my phone. Everything works fine until I try to add a new group (personal, work, etc). As long as the contacts are in my contacts everything syncs fine. when I put contacts in those groups that I created they never show up on my phone. Is there a setting I am missing? In gmail or phone.

I know that probably asking this question for a Google product would get me setup for a firing squad appointment, but is there any way or any app that would sync my Yahoo contacts to my Droid? I use both accounts and want a way to sync it up.

I must be overlooking something.I am simply trying to get my phone to keep contacts synced with Google Contacts and I don't want "All" contacts just "My Contacts".Every time I send an email in Gmail, it automatically adds it to all contacts. It is going to bloat my phone.

I know there are lots of threads about syncing yahoo email to the Droid and I got that to work, but my question is syncing everything else (contacts, calendar etc.) Is there a way to do it? I have had my yahoo email address for years and don't really feel like giving in and switching to a gmail account.

For people who want a fully automatic way to keep both Calendar & Contacts sync'd both ways between Outlook and Google Gmail / Calendar.
I've already done a lot of research on this topic as it is currently the most important item I've got to have working in order to keep the Droid. It seems like nobody really has a great solution yet, but there are some in the works. This thread can serve as a master list for Outlook sync software.
Here is what I've found so far:
CompanionLink $40 (released, sounds like the best currently available): Sync Microsoft Outlook with your Google account and your phone | CompanionLink
Missing-Sync $40(update: Released. Calendar syncing is now supported, but requires additional app installed on phone.): Keep your life in sync with The Missing Sync for Android from Mark/Space Appears to be the best all-in-one solution for syncing Calendar, Contacts, Notes, Docs, Media and more. Includes 'Proximity Sync' - syncs wirelessly & automatically w/ your computer.
gSyncit $15 (released, but lots of problems reported by users. EDIT: Some favorable reviews in this thread, may have improved reliability): http://www.daveswebsite.com/software/gsync/
SyncMyCal $25 (released): Share Outlook Calendar Free, Google Calendar Sync, Pocket Outlook Google Sync - SyncMyCal
Anybody using this?
OGG Sync $30/yr (Not yet released): OggSync - Sync Google Calendar and Contacts with Outlook and Windows Mobile Device Sync (including Microsoft Office) Blog Archive Real... Native... Google Contact Sync — OggSync 4.0
Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook $50/yr (Requires Google Apps Premier or EDU Edition):[url]
Are there any good free apps out there that can sync Contacts? Tell me and I'll add them to the list.

Has anyone noticed the difference from the Droid Incredibles contact search and the Droid X's search. I loved the way the DInc searches for the names. I just upgraded to the DX and that is one issue I'm not too found of. Does anyone have any ideas how or what app could install for searching all your contacts like the DInc does? You just type (on the dialer) the persons name or number and it comes up with the names in a list

I searched around and couldn't find any answers, and all the threads for moto droid were ages old. I'm rooted and running a sapphire rom but that's not important. I can run anything. I'm just looking for a way to individually sync facebook contacts to existing phone contacts. I don't need all 1000 of my fb friends on my phone. But the contacts I DO have on my phone, it'd be cool to have synced up to fb. Is there any way to avoid the "all or nothing" mentality of fb sync?

I did a hard reset this AM due to some sever instability in my Droid. Droid came back up fine after the reset, I activated it and signed in again on my primary Gmail account, added other email accounts, and reinstalled my Apps from the Download section of Marketplace. The only thing that didn't come back is my Contacts...Calendar sync'd to the Droid just fine, but Contacts wont. Tried rebooting the phone, turning contacts sync off and on again, and the sync icon shows for a few seconds next to the "Sync Contacts" checkbox, but none of the contacts sync to the phone. My contacts sync'd to the phone just fine before the reset they are the contacts in my phone's primary Gmail account.

I have two groups of contacts "MyContacts" and "Utilities". When I set up synching I selected to copy "All contacts".
Unfortunatey, when I look what's on my area on sonyericsson.com/wportal I see only the contacts from the group "MyContacts".
I.e. the site creates a false feeling of security - if I need to restore my phone from this site I will irrecovarebly lose lots of data.
I don't know is SE forgot to test their function or Android-hackers don't understand the features of the contacts.
All area of handling the contacts stinks seriously, and mkes you wander if the Android people ever used a mobile phone :
1. X10 does not accept contacts sent via SMS (VCARD-format), (or via MMS or bluetooth)
2. X10 does not sync with Outlook where most of business people have their contacts, and maintain them when receiving corporate mails etc.
3. The only way to get the contacts is to export from PC to a csv-file and import to gmail, and then sync to the phone. This is not that flexible due the export via csv. I.e. If I create cntacts in the phone they will not reach Outlook.
