Motorola Droid :: 1GHz Kernel That Work With BBVO.4
Jul 12, 2010
I am rooted and running BBV0.4 Rom and everything is great. So of course I have to try to make it better. I am looking for 1GHz kernels that work well with BBV0.4. I have seen several options in ROM Manager, but was looking for some factual data and not just fancy names.
Also I am not that familiar with the ROM Manager app, so if any one has a link or a list of steps that I can expect when updating a kernel via ROM Manager it would be greatly appreciated. I didn't see much in the way of a users guide on the Devs website.

With my D1. 2 days ago I was running Bugless Beast v0.5 with ChevyNo1 1.1ghz kernel. Then suddenly my market crashes, so I restore back to my factory rooted droid, when I try to install or go to reboot into recovery it says"error occured while requesting permissions". Now when I try to restore it won't even reboot the phone. Need help otherwise I'm gonna try get a D2.

I want to download the new BB, but after reading that there are some issues with the kernel, wanted to make sure that the one I have works
It says on the about phone screen, Kernel Version: 2.6.29-omap1-bekit-0.8.3-7x1000LV bekriebel@ubuntu #1
I don't even remember what the heck I downloaded, but I am assuming this is one of the 1 Ghz kernels
So, would that work, if it doesn't , I saw on ROM manager a Chevy for Froyo.
What would be the best way to load it, load BB and then the kernel or the other way around.
Don't want to end up in an endless loop that I can't get out of.

One of the main reasons for me to root was to get away from the slow refreshing icons on the home screen after the Verizon OTA 2.2 update.
I installed Lithium, but perhaps it is based on the same build? Is it the kernel? I still have the problem and it is very annoying.
Any way to get around this?
This is the original thread I was in. Is it that there is no known fix? Or is it related only to the Droid and 2.2? My wife's Incredible doesn't seem to have the problem with 2.2, but it could be Sense, RAM, or some other factor.

Running BB.4 with flash beta 3 installed. Yesterday, running on the default 800Mhz kernel that comes in BB, flash ran ok. Today, I put Chevy 1Ghz ULV kernel on my droid, and flash keeps crashing. I went into SetCPU and throttled back to 800Mhz, and flash works again. I know Flash is still beta, so not sure what is going on.

So this article from Gizmodo (Motorola Droid 2 Photos and Specs Leaked) says that the Droid 2 has the 750mhz OMAP processor but most other sites say 1Ghz OMAP. Which is it? Girlfriend wants to go Android but I won't let her buy anything but a 1Ghz phone. What do you say?

If you'd like to try it, check your normal ROM website for droid. It allows up to 1ghz clock. I personally have profiles set for a little lower for most times, but its running fine at 1Ghz.

Cyanogen 5.0.5.6 with bekit 1ghz running at 40 degrees. Is this a bad combination? I'm constantly at 40 degrees. If not there, usually upper 30s. I'm hearing people are often in low 20s with their ROMs. What's the deal? I don't even play games that much, nor do I browse intense websites. Would you suggest a different kernel?

I am currently running the alldroid community beta rom at 950 mhz. How can I up it to 1.1 or 1.3 ghz? I do not know how to access adb. I downloaded the android adk but now I am lost. I am also running an older recovery, not the newer 0.99.3 one, I think its 0.10.5. I have tazs 1300 kernel download but now I don't know how to implement it. Can I use terminal emulator for this?

Currently I am running Blueberry Liquid Frozen Yogurt 1.6, with Slayhers 1200 Kernel. I set it up last night and I've been using it very lightly and now I have about 50% battery. Just for kicks and giggles I decided to try ChevyNo1's 1.1Ghz ULV Kernel to see what would happen as I have heard very good things about it. And when I flashed it and upon Reboot the boot animation loaded extremely slow. And when it finally got to the Droid Eye it went into the dreaded boot loop. So now I pose these questions to the Root Gurus, did I do something wrong? Should I choose another kernel? And how do I go about choosing the optimum kernel to maximize performance? With LFY 1.6 and Slayhers 1200kernel I can get a 1339 on Quadrant, and a Short Bench of 316-466, and a long bench of 579-585. And a native bench of 945.77. This is all with SetCPU set to Ondemand.

What do you think is the best ROM at the moment and why? To qualify as one of the best it must be stable not a stable build but stable that theres not a crazy amount of force close or reboots and no other significant problems. Also post what kernel you are using with it.

1) What is the difference between kernel and a ROM? How do I know what kernel I am on? I know I am running the SholesMod ROM, but I am considering changing to another ROM. I seem to have FC's quite often and am trying to fix that. If I want to change a ROM will I need to change the kernel to make sure they are compatible?
2) I have SP Recovery installed. Is this part of the kernel? Is this installed in a separate place from the kernel/ROM? I'd like to feel assured that if I am installing a new kernel/ROM and something goes wrong, I don't have to worry about my SP Recovery being affected. But should I?...............
3) Nandroid backup... does this include everything on the device? Kernel, ROM, AND Recovery Mode?
I'm a newbie to hacking the Droid, but back in my PSP days, I know that the Recovery mode was stored on the same drive as the system files, and if you make a misstep when flashing a new firmware, you could lose recovery access. I'm just wondering where the recovery is located in the phones file system, and if I should really be concerned when flashing ROMs/kernels. Also, is there any way I could redirect it to load recovery from the memory stick, if the default recovery cannot load, just as a failsafe? Or if I lose recovery, could I somehow flash a new recovery via USB?

So I finally rooted my droid, installed BB 0.4 and from what I understand it comes with an 800 MHz kernel. Fair enough but lets say I want 1 GHz. I'm already noticing that I get slightly less battery life with this than with stock 2.1, so would the "low voltage" or "ultra low voltage" Chevy kernels provide me with more battery life? I know I should probably get SetCPU, but I don't want to constantly have to manage clock speeds manually and I don't know what profiles to set / what's safe and what's not safe and whatnot. If I DON'T install SetCPU, will the phone take care of it by itself and slow the clock down when it's not doing intense tasks and so forth? Is SetCPU really necessary with a kernel or is it just for extra control for super power users?

Right now Im on stock 2.1 rooted. A few little issues I had with other ROMs and overclocking are totally gone which is great. I would like to try some different kernels, however, to see if it was the ROM or just the kernels I was using.
Anyways, how do I get back to the stock kernel if I change to a different one? If I have a recent nandroid, can I just restore one of the partitions? I would like to retain all of my data throughout the process so Id like to avoid doing a full nandroid restore if possible should I have problems and just restore the kernel.
Thanks

I just installed Cyanogen from DroidMod and while I was at it, I installed the p3 1ghz low voltage kernel. So far, I'm pretty happy. I'm not sure it's been a huuuge battery saver, but I think it's helped. Wifi and bluetooth have been on all day. A few phone calls. Lots of texting and emails. Also some market apps downloaded as well as files transferred on/off. At 8:30 my battery life is at 50%, which is pretty damn good considering how much better that is from strait out of the box on release day.
I'm running 800mhz overclocked, instead of 1ghz to save some power. Should I switch to a different kernel since I'm not even using the 1 ghz slot?
What's the best low voltage kernel for battery life, overclocking included? No need to even bring up stock speeds...
