Is the Front Facing camera and the Storage Space really sufficient to make a Vibrant kernel not work on a SGS4G phone?
How come there can't be a Generic Galaxy S kernel? one that would work with all(or most) of the Galaxy S phones...

Is there any way that I can create backups for the vibrant that work without installing and reinstalling the voodoo lag fix everytime? I know that clockwork recovery doesn't work with voodoo installed, and messes up my phone if I try it.

So i tried downloading it by the 2 methods they gave me and both times it gives me a message ur phone is not acceptable at this time even though its on front page saying it is?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Vibrant just crashed with this message, "user fault not kernel panic upload mode". All I was doing was updating a word document using the application FREETHINK which comes with the phone. I pulled the battery out and restarted, and went to do the same thing I was trying to do before the crash and it crashed again.I looked this message up online using "google". There isn't much. People seem to think it has to do with GPS, and it seems like it's a reoccurring problem, which factory reset will not fix. I'm switched back to my Blackberry, incase that it does reoccur. And I will call T-Mobile I guess or maybe try restarting again, and see if it crashes again doing something different other than FREETHINK.Not panicking yet.Anyone else experiencing this problem?I hope it doesn't reoccur,I'll let you know.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am rooted and running BBV0.4 Rom and everything is great. So of course I have to try to make it better. I am looking for 1GHz kernels that work well with BBV0.4. I have seen several options in ROM Manager, but was looking for some factual data and not just fancy names.
Also I am not that familiar with the ROM Manager app, so if any one has a link or a list of steps that I can expect when updating a kernel via ROM Manager it would be greatly appreciated. I didn't see much in the way of a users guide on the Devs website.
One of the main reasons for me to root was to get away from the slow refreshing icons on the home screen after the Verizon OTA 2.2 update.
I installed Lithium, but perhaps it is based on the same build? Is it the kernel? I still have the problem and it is very annoying.
Any way to get around this?
This is the original thread I was in. Is it that there is no known fix? Or is it related only to the Droid and 2.2? My wife's Incredible doesn't seem to have the problem with 2.2, but it could be Sense, RAM, or some other factor.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter struggling along with everyone else with my GPS, I finally got the OTA update a little over a week ago. After updating, GPS seemed to be working better (not perfectly, but better). Then yesterday out of the blue it completely ceased to work. It stays permanently "searching for GPS".
Before getting the update I did use the LBSTestMode work around, but am now unable to access the settings in the same way I did before to reset to original settings...perhaps it is the workaround settings causing the problem now? (And without GPS that could become literal at any moment!)

I try to get into recovery and it just loops the Samsung Galaxy S and Vibrant logo.
it wont connect to my laptop - cause it loops and since it does that, I cannot use odin.
I tried to download animated wallpapers online from myxer.com and it shows animated once downloaded but when i set it as my wallpaper, its no longer animated, just looks like a basic wallpaper. Any1 know how to make this work?

I press the shortcut icon I want to delete, hold, wait for the vibration, drag to the garbage icon, and release. When I go back to the application page the shortcut icon is still there.
This technique works perfectly on the home pages, just not on the application pages.

1. I updated to stock 2.1 using the sprint update tool.
2. I followed the video tutorial to root the phone
3. then i used joey's page (http://www.joeyconway.com/sdx/custom/index.php) to install the his kernel (joeykrim-SDX-kernel v2.0.4 (includes root)).
I have done nothing else to the phone but this and removing a couple of bloatware apps (i checked the list of permitted deletions before i removed anything.) I have not installed a new recovery..at least i dont think that I did as part of one of the other operations I performed (as an aside, i am not really sure what the custom recovery is or what it is used for, so i didnt install it...i guess i need to read up more...)
So that is where I am..but i have a couple of questions.
1) i am now having issues with my wifi connection - the signal reception is very spotty in areas where i should have atleast 2 bars of reception, and the wifi often cuts out completely....Is there any know corellation between joey's kernel and this wifi issue? I have searched the forums and have found nothing that answers this.
2) Is there an easy way to get back to the stock kernel? I have read that i can get back to stock everything by using the sprint download center where I did my original 2.1 update. But is there a way to get back to just the stock kernel without wiping the phone?
I currently have bekit 1ghz kernet installed, but I was interested in trying out some other kernels. Can I just install them via Rom Manager over the first kernel? Or is there some kind of uninstall process I should use first?

I tried hard but could not find any reference to such a /boot partition(directory) in the root of the device. I would like know whether it is hidden or disguised as something else. The script that flashes the custom kernels has the following line

Is mmcblk0p9 the /boot partition? Moreover /dev/block has no reference to boot or mmcblk0p9. So where exactly is the kernel being extracted? The boot.img comes packaged as zImage + ramdisk, In other words where are zImage and ramdisk extracted to, in the root file system and in what form? Is the ramdisk responsible for the creation of the root files system(/dev, /proc, /data. /system, /sys, /sbin etc)?
Well I am working on beagleboard-xm project, where I am supposed to upgrade the current Android version to ICS. The thing is, I have to keep the current kernel , because it is customized for some applications that run on that board. It is not me that compiled that kernel...
Is it even possible to keep the "old" kernel and upgrade to ICS? Can it be done in any way? Or a new kernel with new patches has to be installed...?
