LG Ally : Apply Update With Velocity / Clockword Mod Recovery Tutorial

Sep 22, 2010

1. I've been reading posts for an hour now and can't find a direct answer. Or maybe there is one and I'm missing it due to my lack of rooting knowledge. I am using velocity .2 and clockwork mod recovery. I am getting a system update notification, Update now/Later, etc. What do I do? I am reading some of the posts and some seem like they pertain to it. Since Im rooter and on velocity.

2. Can I update? Do I have to go to the stock LG rom in rom manager and apply that first?

Do I have to do a factory reset? Am I supposed to lose root. Some help on how to apply the update with velocity .2 and clockword mod recovery tutorial to apply the update without bricking phone please.

LG Ally :: Velocity .2 With Jit Kernel And New 2.1 Update

Sep 21, 2010

I have my lg Ally with the new Jit kernel (Thanks Drellisdee), with Velocity 0.2 (Thanks Trident) and am overclocking at 768 mhz. I want to apply the new update, VZB, and then put velocity and the jit kernel back. So my thoughts are that I would have to...

1.) Backup rom/Apps/Data (Titanium Backup/ROM Manager)
2.) Go into Recovery (Clockworkmod) and make a nendroid backup.
3.) Wipe Dalvik, data, and cache.
4.) Install vzb via Drellisdee's rooted update (After i check md5)
5.) Then Apply Velocity 0.2
6.) Apply the kernel
7.) Restore data from titanium backup...

Is this what I would do? What about the ally's unofficial "V9" update that has to be installed manually... Is that worth it or should I just do VZB?
Also, do I need to go to a stock rom proior to the update?

LG Ally : Velocity V Stock / Flash Velocity To Phones

Nov 3, 2010

Ok, the family has Allys I am trying to convince them to let me flash Velocity to their phones, But they think I will kill their phones. Would there be a good noticeable speed difference, Battery life? Any other odd perks I can use to convince them?

Cause they are always complaining about how it is slow.

LG Ally : ZVB Not Apply Correctly / Pull Info On Update From Downloaded File?

Oct 1, 2010

Firstly, just wanted to say everyone on this forum has been awesome! You all do great work and are extremely helpful!

Ok from Velocity 0.2 with Clockworkmod and V9 SW version I flashed the stock V6 Rom, then flashed stock recovery. got ota updates to V8 and then ZVB without any errors. SW Version on phone read VS740ZVB. I then rerouted, applied Clockworkmod recovery and installed Velocity 0.2 and then the GNMTurbo4 kernel. SW Version on phone reads VS740ZVB. Then another OTA update showed up. It claimed to be 24.9MB just like the ZVB update. Of course it would not install because I was using custom recovery.

My question is, what is this update? Is it the ZVB update coming through again? Did my ZVB update not apply correctly or is it not recognized by Verizon since I'm using custom recovery and rom? Is there a new update that I'm missing out on, and if so, what is it, and do I need to apply it?

Lots of questions, I know.Just wondering what exactly is going on and do I need to do anything about it? Is there any way to pull info on this update from the downloaded file, and if so, where can I find the file and how do I get info from it?

LG Ally :: Ally Stuck In Loop At VELOCITY Screen

Oct 17, 2010

My LG Ally is stuck at the "VELOCITY" boot screen and is stuck in a loop. I had Velocity 0.3 flashed yesterday and I decided to re-flash today. I have tried wiping data/files/cache/dalvik cache. I'm stuck and I don't know what to do. Also I never did a Nandroid backup (because I'm slow).

Motorola Droid :: Cant Flash Clockword Recovery

May 7, 2010

I just got a replacement droid in the mail today and am trying to get back to where I was on my old one. I have a nandroid on my sdcard and am trying to flash clockwork recovery so that I can restore my nandroid, but everytime I try to flash recovery I get an error message that says "an error occurred while flashing your recovery". I was able to flash SPrecovery from ROM Manager, but that won't allow me to restore the nandroid that I made in clockwork.

The phone came with 2.1-update1, so I used RSDLite to flash back to 2.0 stock and then rooted that using the original update.zip technique. I then got DroidRootPro, installed busybox, etc, installed rom manager, but thats where I started getting the flash error to begin with. I managed to get back up and running with a pre-clockwork nandroid, but I really want to get my nandroid from earlier today restored from clockwork!

LG Ally :: Where To Get Flashlight App From Velocity 0.3?

Oct 10, 2010

Where can I find that exact flashlight app that is in Velocity 0.3? When I look in the market, there are TONS of them and most of them only make the touch screen turn bright.P.S. I did have Velocity 0.3, but went back to just a stock rom with Universal Androot. Google maps, which I actually use a lot, was being very slow and buggy for me.

LG Ally : Terminal For Velocity

Sep 14, 2010

I just compiled a very small theme to test the waters. Its basically only an edit of the status bar, battery icon, browser background, and for no reason what so ever made the gtalk icon grey scale.Like I said, testing the waters here and only did a tiny bit of modifying. When Velocity 0.2 comes out I will be making a more detailed theme. This is just something to throw on your rom while you wait.Note: This will not completely replace your current theme if you have one. This theme will work best when installed on the stock theme.Beautiful Widgets and launcherpro not included.

LG Ally : Raptor Vs Velocity?

Oct 21, 2010

So with 2 ROM's out now everybody want's to know the "under-the-hood" benefits of both ROM's. Both Velocity and Raptor report 6.8 MFLOPS with Linpack, no OC, just the Turbo. Testing battery on both, will let you guys know tomorrow.

-ILL RUN SOME SERIOUS STRESS TESTS ON BOTH ROM'S TO SEE WHICH ONE CAN HANDLE MORE RESOURCE USE BEFORE A BUNCH OF FORCE CLOSES POP-UP OR PHONE STARTS FREEZING.

My opinion: In my opinion Velocity is snappier but I'll post more on this by tomorrow so check back!

If this is the wrong place to post, apologies. I recently rooted, got ROM Manager with Clockwork Recovery and flashed the Velocity ROM. Everything works quite awesome, but I'm not getting my notification sound when I get a text message. I do get it for other notification events, and I've tried a couple different sounds just for good measure. Is this a ROM issue? An issue with my phone? Anyone else experiencing it? Right now I'm using the default messaging app.

I have a copy of the Google Genie APK that has transparancy and was previously using it. Velocity 0.3 has the Genie widget (was it in 0.2 as well...don't recall) and I've tried removing it via a script in the terminal emulator. Removed fine, but I cannot install the APK I have for some reason. Simply comes up with the error "Application not installed". When I do attempt to install the APK, a message comes up saying that "The application you are installing will replace another application". I know that the file versions are different as well. Love the transparent widget.

HTC EVO 4G :: How To Manually Apply Froyo 2.2 - 3.26.651.3 - Update

Jul 30, 2010

Want to upgrade manually yourself? Download the Android 2.2 firmware for the Evo to your PC. Place the file in the top level directory of your SD Card. (Do not unzip this file) Rename the downloaded file. (If your Windows is configured to show extensions, then rename it "update.zip" if you do not have extensions visible then rename it "update" NOTE: If downloading the file from the above link, it's already been renamed for you) If you don't have it already, download ASTRO File Manager from the Android Market. Connect your EVO to your PC and set the connection type to "Disk Drive" Copy over the downloaded file to the root of your EVO directory structure. Power down your Evo Reboot into Recovery Mode by Holding down the Volume Down button as you power the phone back on. The Boot Loader will appear, A screen should appear showing your phones system searching for various files. Scroll down to recovery and press the Power button. (The Volume Up/Down buttons navigate the menu, and the Power Button selects the selection.) When you see the triangle with an exclamation point symbol, press the Power and Volume Up buttons at the same time. (and wait for 10-15 seconds), The recovery should eventually come up. Select Bootloader Scroll down to Recovery and select it The phone will reboot again, this time into Recovery. From the menu that appears, select Apply sdcard:update.zip. or "install from zip" (depending on your recovery image) When the screen displays Install from sdcard complete select reboot system now and wait for the phone to power back up.
Wait a while.. the phone will reboot repeatedly and finally install the update with the new apps. (The installation can take up to 15-20 minutes)
