Jelly Bean :: Exchange Service - SMS Relay?

Nov 11, 2013

Exchange service is constantly running in the background. It runs one of one processes and that is SMS relay? Is this possible battery drainer, what purpose it serves and how to remove it? I do not use the mail application, only gmail with all syncs off. I'm assuming this sms relay is automatic text message retrieval?

EDIT: I also have Sprint ID constantly running. It's running an updater service. How could I safely remove it?

General :: How To Uninstall Media (server) On Jelly Bean

Dec 20, 2013

I downloaded re-scan media root, which supposedly deactivates it, but not really. It keeps coming back and usually when I see it, it is already too late and the battery is low.

which package do I have to uninstall (freeze) to kill the media server? I don't really need it, I can find my media alright myself. I do have a SD card. Yes, I do have media on it. No, I will not remove that media. If media server is overwhelmed with more then 30 files, it has to go (not the media itself). No, rebooting does not work.

No, re-installing the whole OS or doing a factory reset is not a solution and not a proper way to do troubleshooting (you also don't just kill a person instead of giving them surgery) I can't wipe out all my data every time I got a problem.

I'm ready to suffer any consequences by a disabled media server, at this point it can only get better. I just want the blasted thing stopped and switched off.

Jelly Bean :: Galaxy S3 Exchange Contacts No Longer Syncing

Feb 8, 2014

I have a Galaxy S3 that uses MS Exchange to sync my email, calendar, tasks, and contacts through my Office365 account. Everything has worked great for months. A few days ago, I noticed that contacts I had been adding to Outlook on my PC were not showing up on my phone. After checking all of the basic stuff (contacts to display set correctly, sync turned on, auto-sync checked, etc.), I discovered that the Contacts had not synced since mid-January (date/time stamp under Settings/Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync/Settings/More Settings). All "sync" boxes are checked, and the Calendar, Email, Tasks, and Text Messages are all syncing, with current date and time stamps. For some reason, even though the Contacts sync box is also checked, Contacts have not updated since January.

I have tried unchecking boxes, restarting phone, removing and reinstalling account, and everything else I could find on these forums. But nothing works. After re-installing the account on the phone, the Contacts "sync" box is checked, but there is no date/time stamp at all. If I look on Settings/Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync/Accounts, the Sync Contacts box is checked, and it shows a current date/time stamp. But the contacts are not syncing, and no contacts show up on the phone for this exchange account. The contacts are making it from my PC to Office365, as those contacts do show up in the web based Office365 contact list. But the contacts are not making it from there to my phone.

I am spending the afternoon trying to create a temporary work-around, but I run my own consulting business, and having access to my contacts is critical.

General :: Samsung Galaxy S - How To Connect To Exchange Email Server

Dec 17, 2012

I have a co-worker who suddenly can not connect to her Exchange account via her phone. It mysteriously stopped syncing emails on Dec. 5, and since then the phone can not connect to the server. Error message reported is "Unable to connect to server." I even completely deleted the Exchange account from the phone and attempted to re-add it, but adding a new account failed with the same error message.

The weird thing is that the account worked perfectly fine before Dec. 5, and we can't think of anything that changed on the phone or on the server at that time. Meanwhile, other Android phones in our workplace continue to receive messages from the Exchange server, including my own Nexus 4 with the exact same server settings and another co-worker's Droid Razr.

The problem phone is a Samsung Galaxy S on US Cellular, running Android 2.3.6.

I have setup up two Gmail accounts and a couple of other email accounts on my Note 3 (4.3) but only the first Google account shows up in the email app. Both show up in the Gmail app but I prefer to have everything working in email so I can monitor all my email (hotmail, Exchange, yahoo too) in the combined inbox. Do I need to add the email account for the second Google account manually as an email account? That seems stupid and everything else is working for both Google accounts and both have email sync enabled.

Jelly Bean :: New Email On Notification List Not Really Resetting After Clear

Jan 16, 2014

Galaxy S4 on 4.3 using stock email app for Exchange connectivity. (Verizon)

I receive about 100 new messages a day from our Exchange server. 1st email comes in for the day and I get a from and subject in the status bar. Messages after that show : (message count) new messages blah blah. By the end of the day it says I have 100 new messages. If I clear the notification, the next time I get a new email, it says 101 new emails. The "clear notifications" does not reset the count! It does for Gmail, which makes sense. The only thing that will reset the count is by going into the email program and then exiting back out. This is a bug, right? I realize I can "drag down" and get more detail on the messages, which is great, but I want the count to reset when I swipe the notification away.

I am writing an app for a smart watch and the problem lies where everything after the first message is not giving me the detailed information I need for my app. As a human using the phone, I can just launch the email app. No big deal. Can't do that from a watch when the phone is locked.

Jelly Bean :: App Search - Battery Charge Notification Via Email

Oct 23, 2013

I've a couple of Android devices, and I'm looking for an application that will email me (once) when the battery is full, (or when the battery is almost dead).

I don't always stick around when it's charging, so having it just make a sound when it's full doesn't catch my attention. Being notified with an email before my device's battery dies, would catch it and recharge, before I have to do a long recharge session.

Email just works best for me. I've checked around, and it doesn't seem that an app like this is out there. Having a notification via prowl/growl could work too, but less so than email.

General :: How To Add Google Apps School Email On Jelly Bean

Oct 16, 2013

On my Droid X, I was able to add my CSUF (@csu.fullerton.edu) email by the following process: 1. Add existing Google account, 2. Menu button -> Browser sign-in, 3. Enter my email address and then select a Google Apps link near the bottom of the page, 4. sign in with my school info, 5. ta-dah! The problem I'm having is that I don't see a similar Google Apps link in the Jelly Bean version from step 3. I've tried a variety of combinations of signing in, without it, but I end up with failure every time. I was just receiving school emails today, on my previous phone, so I'm pretty darn sure it's just an issue with the new setup system.

I'm aware that I can set it all up through the other Email app, but I really prefer having it through Gmail.

I have now successfully added my CSUF email as an existing Google account, by following these steps...

1. Add Existing Google account
2. Don't enter any info, as one normally would to register a gmail account, and instead press the Menu button and select Browser sign-in.
3. On the following screen, enter the email only and press sign in.
4. For me, here it took me to the CSUF sign-in page and I did so.
5. I actually browsed the site a bit, from there, which leads me to believe that if your sign-in is failing by all of these other steps, the missing factor may be spending enough time signed in through the browser.
6. I pushed the back button until I was greeted with the "Signing In" message.

I've done this before, and it only exited me back out to where I could enter my email and password for an existing account, so as mentioned, success might be due to spending enough time signed in for the connection to register.

Jelly Bean :: Permanently Have Email Client Cached In Memory?

Oct 6, 2013

I am using MailDroid Pro and like it alot.If I close/minimize the app using the "home" button when I go to open it again it opens and populates my messages very fast (instantaneously)..But, if i close the app using the "back" button; when I go to open it again the app opens quickly but it takes longer to populate the messages.

It is not like anything is broken. I try to close it each time with the "home" button but it is easier to tap the back button than it is to have to physically push the "home" button.is there someway to permanently keep the app process running so no mater how i close it will populate quickly when opened?

I have this phone running pretty nice since rooting it and freezing/uninstalling all the crap and installing XPrivacy (awesome app!), getting the email how I want it is the only thing I am not liking.

Jelly Bean :: Email Has Stopped - Error With Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro

Dec 7, 2013

I recently have started to experiencing the infamous 'Unfortunately, Email has stopped" error with my Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro. The phone is using Jelly Bean 4.1.2 with Kernal 3.0.31-1371191. I have been able to use the native email application to check my email for easily the last year. However, last week, it has started to produce this issue. I am not sure what changed that has started to trigger it. I normally do not install updates, but as of a result of the error I have installed all updates to current to no avail. Allow me to explain what is happening and what I have done to attempt to resolve:

1. When I open email, I can see all my unread/read email for the various mail folders. When I attempt to open any individual email it hangs for a moment, then crashes with the above message.
2. When I attempt to compose an email it crashes with the above message.
3. When I attempt to add another account, after entering the email and password it crashes again with the above message.

Things I have done:

1. Restarted my phone
2. Force stopped email
3. I installed all the latest updates, even installed the 'at&t messaging' application.
4. I have since attempted to clear data and settings for email.
5. I additionally removed my accounts and attempted to re-add them. However, I am again greeted with the crash. So now I have even less functionality then I had previously.

in Jelly Bean opening an email in the basic email app and then touching anywhere within the email makes the email quickly scroll down to hide the to/from bar. Jelly Bean :: Galaxy S3 - Stock Email Client Autofill Addresses / How To Edit

Jan 2, 2014

I have had my phone nearly a year and how it's got a cache of people I've sent emails to, because sometimes I want to retrieve an address I didn't think I'd need again... However, it also presents some annoying issues. It also saves every typoed address I've ever fat-fingered, and sometimes it comes up as the first choice when it was for someone in my contacts, and I then send a message to a bad address. If you go to write an email and press that little 'contact' button in the "To" field area, it shows me a list, and I don't know where some of those are coming from - it's some but not all of my contacts and some but not all of the addresses I've ever written to. I would like to clean out the fat-finger errors and also that mysterious list that comes up when you press the little contact icon when composing an email, without taking a scorched-earth approach. Googling around indicates to me that this has annoyed people for years and nobody's found a solution.

I have a Galaxy S3 running the recent update to 4.3.
