Is it possible to modify the folder grid width within android. For example, by default if I have 3 apps within a folder it will be displayed within the folder in a 2x2 grid with the top two spots and the bottom left occupied with an app. Instead I would like to modify it to be a 3x1 horizontal grid.

I am modifying the Settings application, and needing to access the system properties. By using android.os.SystemProperties.get, I can read the system properties. However, I can not set the system properties back with android.os.SystemProperties.set. This function has no return and the system properties never get changed. Why? Is there any permission required?

I have a HUAWEI Y300-0100, and it comes with a funny feature: every time it can't connect to WIFI a popup message appears saying that if you switch to data plan charges may apply.
I am constantly switching between WIFI/no-WIFI zones so that message really bothered me, and I searched a way to disable it.
Presumably, the only way to do that is by modifying a system file called "build.prop". I already had my phone rooted so doing so wasn't very hard.I used Jota+ to change a setting from "true" to "false" (ro.config.hw******), and saved the file in the root of the SD card. Then, with ES File Explorer, I renamed the "build.prop" in /system to "build.prop.bak" and copied there the "build.prop" I previously saved in the SD root. All seemed to be fine, except that after rebooting my phone it could not get past the HUAWEI logo.
Android recovery mode seems to work, but I don't know how to use a lot of its options nor I want to do a Factory Reset if there's a better alternative. Is there a way to modify system files before booting Android? I really would like to try to delete the "build.prop" file and rename the "build.prop.bak" back to "build.prop".

Google applications do it, and apparently it used to be part of the public API (via android.os.SystemProperties.) How are we supposed to enable/disable sync on the phone? Disabling/enabling roaming is easy, but I'm beating my head against the wall trying to find a non-hack method for disabling auto-sync (much less the granularity that would actually be nice.) Is this intentional by the framework team? Is it a whoopsie that is planned to be changed later?

If I go to the Gallery I get Camera Shots, All Photos, and All Videos. How can I create a new gallery folder to be visible here so that I can classify my pictures more easily. I tried creating a new folder on the SD card within DCIM100Media and using an app that rescanned the SD card but no luck.

My android powered HTC Wildfire at first downloaded all my new emails via IMAP and kept them stored in its email inbox until deleted manually. Now however, the phone automatically deletes them all everyday when i check afresh (ie resets to 0/0 without putting them anywhere) meaning i cant keep a check on what emails i have got on the phone. It receives all new ones fine but 24hrs later they are wiped.
Why is this happening?? I know there have been similar threads on this but no enlightenment so far as i could see!!?

I was trying to create more space. I saw the apps folder and moved it to somewhere else. Then my phone started crashing, so i turned it off. When i turned it back on i got a bootloop. My phone is rooted and i have an alacatel one touch 983. It keeps showing the o2 logo. I think this is because there is no launcher.

I have installed ADB and the whole Android SDK to root my asus transformer infinity (tf700t). I have taken all the steps every forum on the web describes: installing everything trough the manager, adjusting the path in the System Variables, and finally it getting it to work together with my tablet. However, when I try to flash/copy/install files from my folder (yes these files are in the same folder as adb.exe and fastboot.exe, which is the folder I used in the System Variables) It can't either find these files or it cannot open these files. When i put in the command 'path' however. I does give me the path where the files can be found.

My HTC Desire VC (T328d) was rooted and running Android OS 4.0.3 (ics).
In recovery mode, I accidentally formatted /system folder (from internal phone memory). This is because the recovery mode is all in chinese language and I did a huge mistake. The phone cannot boot showing HTC logo screen and no boot sound.
I've downloaded the kernel for this device at htcdev.com.I can enter recovery mode. My friend has the same device and his is not rooted yet.

I have recently purchased an unlocked HTC Desire. As you may or may not know, here in Australia the only carrier of the Desire is Telstra. However I use 3 mobile so that's the reason I purchased an unlocked device.
My problem is that my phone has about a dozen or more apps which are installed by Telstra and uninstallable. Most of them are 100% useless because I'm not even on their network and I'd like them out of my applications list.
I've had a read around and I saw something about being able to remove them by deleting the file and then uninstalling them using a command prompt program.
Would anyone please be able to give me detailed instructions on how to do this because I'm not sure how to find the system/apps folder and I'm also not sure on how to get the command prompt thing to work.

When I hit the "phone" button on my HTC wildfire it brings up all my contacts on both my SIM card and in the phone memory. Is there anyway that I can see just the SIM card contacts as it shows up all of my contacts twice! When I hit the HTC people button it will just bring up a list of each contact only once, but this takes a few seconds to load.

I bought myself the HTC Wildfire about a week back. I have a few questions regarding the wallpaper and the lock screen resolution.
The Wildfire screen resolution is 240x320. What should the ideal resolution be for my lock screen and wallpaper images?
When I set a 240x320 image as wallpaper or lock screen it appears very pixelated. However, when using resolutions of 640x480 and above, the wallpaper looks great but the lock screen is still pixelated. Also, when selecting the lock screen image I can't select the whole thing. Parts always get cropped.
Somehow the HTC backgrounds that are present on the phone don't look as pixelated although they are of a lower resolution.
