Sep 2, 2010Is there any way to enable car dock mode on an Incredible? I don't mean just starting the car dock app, but having it automatically start when you put the phone in a dock. I know it works on motorola phone with magnets. I've been using Custom Car Home and it's supposed to take over the Home button when you're in a car dock, but doesn't work on the Incredible since we don't have fancy magnetic docks. I read on the EVO board that the new HTC car dock for the EVO puts it in car dock mode and was wondering if there was a way for us to enable this too. Perhaps a special USB charging cable to use in the car that sends some sort of signal?

Aug 8, 2010my newly bought Tattoo became unbootable a few days ago.It worked perfectly fine two days ago, then it started to randomly reboot itself, but after that, it became completely unbootable, as in, it was stuck at the "TATTOO" screen. The phone internals are completely untouched, no custom images, not rooted, no nothing, it's factory fresh.The battery is full too, and I didn't install anything that could possibly have corrupted the bootloader (or whatever is failing to load).I already tried to wipe the user data _TWICE_ (using HOME + BACK + POWER) with no success. I'm also perfectly able to get into HBOOT (using VOLDOWN + MENU + POWER), and connect via usb (using "FASTBOOT USB" from HBOOT). However, I can't completely wipe the cache with fastboot.exe from the android-sdk, since it doesn't allow it: "erasing 'cache'... FAILED (remote: not allow)".

Dec 12, 20111. I just got done perusing 10 pages of hits for "airplane mode" and everyone is trying to do something opposite of what I'm doing.
2. I'm not really that android-savvy. Just good at following instructions.
QUESTION: How do I enable Airplane Mode "permanently" so that a child cannot disable this mode?
EXPLANATION: I have several android devices (Droid Xs, specifically) that have clean ESNs and are not currently being used on any carrier. I also have children (5,3,1).
I've SBF'd, rooted, and removed all unnecessary APKs, leaving only a few educational apps and games for the children to use. And, yes, I enable Airplane Mode. They love having their own little "mini" tablets and being able to be like the grown-ups.
Unfortunately, the oldest has a knack for pushing all sorts of buttons and inadvertently turning the phone's radio back on. I know that I have not associated the ESN with any carrier; however, as I'm sure most of you know, when you dial a number with a non-subscribed number, it still asks you if you want to make the call and charge it to a credit card - at least, this is what the phone did the last time this happened.
So, bottom line, I want to disable my child's access to any carrier's cellular and data networks. And I want to be the only one that could possible re-enable that access.
If there was some way to enable Airplane Mode "permanently" and remove access to all toggles, settings that could disable Airplane Mode, then this would ease my mind. Obviously, I would want this condition to exist only until I either reflashed the phone or had to do something very convoluted (perhaps editing some setting manually via command line or ADB?).

Oct 18, 2010I want to control the system settings "auto brightness", setting it ON or OFF.I'm able to control the brightness level but only if AUTO is OFF. From what I read until now there is a SCREEN_BRIGHTNESS_MODE in Settings.System but only for API level 8 or higher and also not recommended to mess wit it. But currently my phone has Android 2.1 (API 7) and there are widgets that can control this setting (enable/disable auto brightness and set the level). How is this done?

Mar 14, 2013I just bought this phone three weeks ago and It was working well .. then I tried an App (pimp my rom) and I forgot to enable Usb Debugging mode so I restarted phone then Found a message ( Unfortunately, Launcher has stopped ) and when I press ok it shows again .. I can only switch on/off wifi bluetooth GPS and those stuff on Notification bar but I cant enable Usb debugging mode because settings crash with ( Unfortunately, Settings has stopped ) No menu No home screen .. only those messages with a useless notification bar I tried everything possible to recover this phone but failed because The computer cant define the device because of the Debugging mode and when I try to flash a rom by recovery mod it tells me signature failed Is there anything I can do for this phone? or its over?

Just say its harder to brick with it.Before attempting, please check your md5sums.I want to thank Framework for being my punching back and helping with this. And the desire guy's who's work stuck in my head and gave me this idea (Sorry I forgot who you are!!).
Step 1:
Get follow root tutorials and get amon's recovery installed. If you want to skip installing a new rom after rooting, You can flash EngTools.zip will root your device . If you flash engtools you can skip step 2.
Step 2:
Take a nandroid backup, if you wish as this will wipe your device.

It tethers, plays live wallpapers, it does all the other fancy tricks it's supposed to, I can even switch up the boot animations without having to flash the internal memory each time (use the boot animation changer app from the market-- you can go into the downloaded folders and switch what screens are actually shown-- cut-n-paste), but how do you CREATE boot animations?? I understand the whole "slide show of *.png" files, I'm lost at the disc.txt file. Does anyone know what each set of numbers represents? I've fiddled around with this and every time I've put something together, it just don't work. I've got the droid screen followed by the Decepticon symbol spinning around, I've got the one that forms the Decepticon out of pieces, then goes to the matrix rain. I want the symbol to form, then have the spinning symbol. So far, when I piece it together the screen stays black. Any recommendations? I'll post the zip file when it's done, has tons of potential!

Nov 1, 2009I am thinking of getting one of these for my girlfriends Xmas but would be getting it on a tariff without a data plan, relying on wi-fi for any data requirements. We were in the orange shop briefly - so i could sneakily test the water as to which phones she likes - She likes the look of the Tattoo and loves the idea of custom cases (her idea of a good phone is very superficial) but hasn't used a smartphone for any longer than 10 minutes. She doesn't like WinMo because it is very straight-laced and business orientated. I played with a hero in the orange shop and found it a pleasure to use but i have been using smartphones for a few years now. I have a couple of questions :
Will the Tattoo be usable/of any use without a data plan? What will work? what doesn't?
How easy is Android to use for a complete beginner to smartphones? She currently has a Samsung D600 (which she loves). Is she going to struggle to use basic functions?
