View 4 RepliesI have the HTC Magic phone from Rogers (Canada) and I just recently unlock the phone. Im planning to go on a trip in Europe where I can buy one of those Prepaid SIM card for GSM and use it with my HTC Magic phone. Since my phone is unlocked it should work. However, I understand the phone might operate on different frequencies on Nord America vs. Europe; the big question is, can the phone support the European frequencies? I was wondering if anybody had successfully used their HTC Magic in Europe.

View 7 Replies View RelatedJust got my Magic today (Rogers) and things went pretty smoothly. Phone unlocked fine, AT&T's APN entered correctly, web browsing is good, Exchange is up and running, etc. But, I am having a problem dialing outbound calls, it is only working intermittently. I'm in a known good service area (5 bars) and have strong signal. Half the time I try to make an outbound call, it fails after about 5 seconds of just sitting there and saying "dialing" - it just craps-out and I get the fast busy signal and a "called failed" message. I try again - same thing. Every once and a while it will go through - and then the cycle happens all over again. This isn't happening in any of my other devices. Could there be a setting in the "phone" area that I have to tweak or something? Obviously a phone that doesn't make calls consistently is no good to me!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a problem with my HTC Magic when browsing to hotmail.com. For some reason it won't open my hotmail inbox via the browser. I'd rather use my browser when reading my mail than installing it on the device.
If I surf to sign in. I see in the gray bar: A pictograph of a globe, a pictograph of a lock and https://mid.live.com. Anyone an idea how I can view my hotmail via the browser?

As written in the title, the time-out screen doesn't work anymore on my 4 days old htc magic.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know that my question is a little strange.
I want to synchronize my Google phone with outlook only with the USB cable.
In this question I'm not connected to Internet so i can't be connected to a gmail account.
For example with Iphone/Itunes it is possible
My Magic connects to the Internet via WiFi but I can't actually browse Internet or get apps to work.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to work with a custom build of Android based on KitKat to incorporate a stylus, copying some of the functionality (though not code) from Samsung which sells Android-with-stylus builds for e.g. the Note 3. I'm not including details of the specific device because right now I am working on a custom dev device and my aim is to write code which is generic enough to be usable from any Android (based on KitKat). The build (written by others) already incorporates drivers and sends stylus events correctly as motion events etc. Programming at the app level I can receive onHover, ontouch, onClick etc
The specific functionality I am trying to achieve is to pick up a stylus-button-click while hovering. It's perfectly possible to do this in any app, using an onGenericMotion Listener.
However, I want to make my "stylus-action" have system-wide effect - so that anywhere (in any other app, or in the launcher or whatever) I will pick up the event (prior to any other app) and bring up my custom menu. (just like AirCommand in Samsung Note 3) I guess in my custom Android this would then make that particular action somewhat protected or unusable for other users, but I'm ok with that.
In older Android (prior to ICS) you could try something by putting up a System Overlay (i.e in regular app code, without hacking the ROM at all), but this is no longer possible.
This is not an attempt to tapjack or whatever, I understand why this functionality has been removed from the domain of the regular programmer, and I don't want to regress my ROM back to pre-ICS behaviour by allowing the System Overlay hack. Now I am programming the system (if my change is good enough I'd like to submit it back to AOSP) so I would like to know the best method to address this. Since Samsung have already done this, it must be legal (using legal in the terms of "Android will allow it"), and I want to do it right.
Is it possible to write something similar to the System Overlay when you are running from a system service? Or is there a good choke-point to capture events before they are broadcast to the current running apps?
I was looking at AndroidXRef /frameworks/base/core/java/android/view/View.java specifically in the function dispatchHoverEvent() which looks like a promising place. My naive idea is that I would place code here checking the MotionEvent to see if the button is pressed and if it is, don't call any listeners and instead call my little menu app (or broadcast a custom message, or something anyway). However, I've never written code on the ROM level before (LOTS of experience writing app code) so I don't know if this is a really bad point or a good point to add in code. Should I be putting things at a higher level or a lower one? Will this capture all events or not? Is it all just trial and error?
Any app which let me easily write in it (with keyboard) or draw (with stylus or finger)? I am looking for app more like kingsoft office or polaris than any drawing apps like skitch or sketchbook.
Only working apps i found are skitch and supernote, but in skitch i need to click icon everytime i want to wrote or draw sth and in supernote after making picture, it is fitted to the line.
For me the best would be app where i could draw table and than write inside it. Or sth close to it
TF300t - stock JellyBean (docked/nonrooted)
I'm searching for android phones that can use video out to the tv for a research project. I'm considering the HTC Touch Pro.
Is there anything I have to do specifically to get the video out to work (for displaying my app on the tv)? or will the phone just display a running app on the tv without extra work?
Does anyone know about app that makes you able to control your phone with your PC? like a remote desktop?

Does anyone know why it might not be working?
Sadly, the Android Market in Canada does not have any paid apps. I was just wondering is there any way I can put themes onto my phone? I find that it really sucks that I can't use any of the dxtop themes or openhome themes in the market unless I actually have the app itself (which I cannot purchase).

View 4 Replies View RelatedGht now I have a iPhone 3g and I am tired of how tight apple has it locked up. And I want an android baed phone. So I have my sights on the htc magic. For people that made the switch. Do you honestly like it better? I don't care if it doesn't blow the iPhone out of the water I just want somethin onpar with the iPhone. Just better will I be satisfied with the magic if I make the switch to android or should I wait for a G4 or something? I can't get the hero cause non currently or ever will support my art carrier. So I am planning to go with an Rogers htc magic.
Please share with me your experiances going from iPhone to magic.(I typed this in iPhone so might be some typeos I didn't proof read.)
I was wondering if anybody docks their Magic (or similar) to one of those thing-a-ma-bobs that holds it between two speakers? They're generally made for iPods but hold other players as well.Because of the wee USB port, I have bought a little adaptor so now I've got 3.5mm jack, but I don't know how well that would dock.
I just want something cheap so I can set it on the kitchen counter whilst making dinner and washing up. I don't even necessarily need it to be at a good angle, so I could just buy a cheapie pair of stereo speakers, but thought something small and compact would be more convenient if I want to move things around to different rooms.I went ahead and bought something verrah verrah cheap off Amazon. I'm not looking for a Carnegie Hall experience, so cheap oughta do the trick. But, would still like to hear about your gadget if you want to talk about it.
I've played with root on my Dream and then I committed phone a side after some un disc-losable things. But I'm tired of not having the latest because it comes out every two weeks it seems and my bank account doesn't extend that far. Any tips for me and my primitive 1.6 technology?
