For those of you that want to take screen shots and are not rooted, not as simple as that but can be done if you want to try it. FYI thanks goes to Chewedpup for researching and finding this info:

Taking screenshots on an Android-based phone by Christina Warren
Even before playing with the new Android phone, the T-Mobile G1, I knew that I would need to be able to take screenshots of the phone itself. Using a digital camera to capture screens externally just wasn't going to cut it. Because the Android platform is open (and now, open source), I really didn't expect this to be a problem. If anything, I thought there would be a way to take screenshots directly from the device like you can with the iPhone and iPod Touch. Alas, I discovered this is not the case. After scouring Google trying to find answers, I asked Engadget's Editor-in-Chief Josh Topolsky what they used for the screenshots in their review, and he was nice enough to fill me in on the details.
Warning: right now, taking screenshots from an Android device requires installing the SDK. That doesn't make it as simple as pressing a button, but it's not the end of the world. If you've got a few minutes, and a quick connection with which to download the SDK, we'll show you how to take delicious Android screenshots of your own.
Step 1: Enable USB Debugging
On your Android phone (in this case, the G1), go to Settings, then Applications, and then Development. Check the checkbox for "USB debugging."
Step 2: Download the Android SDK
Download the SDK for your platform here. Google also has some great installation documentation if you get lost. You will need to make sure you have a current copy of the JDK. To use the SDK, you also need to download an IDE like Eclipse. After installing Eclipse, you can install the Eclipse plugin to connect Android and the IDE together, or just do a lot of stuff via the command line. Go ahead and plugin your Android handset into a USB port on your computer, if it is not plugged in already.
Step 3: Run DDMS
After configuring Eclipse or whatever IDE you use to work with Android, you need to open up the DDMS application from within the "tools" folder in the Android SDK's main folder. After DDMS launches, select your handset from the menu on the left (it should be the only device listed). You might see an error message, but the debug tool should be loaded. Then, click CTRL-S on your keyboard. This will bring up the "Device Screen Capture" interface. From here, a static image is captured from what is appearing on your handset. You can save the image (nicely defaulted as PNG) and then refresh to your heart's content to grab updated or different screenshots from your phone.
That's it! There is a caveat: Because your device has to be plugged into USB to be accessed by the SDK, the SD card cannot be used for taking photographs, playing music or downloading music from the Amazon.com MP3 store. You can take pictures of some of those screens but to actually download anything, take movies, or take a photo, you cannot have your device plugged into the computer and accessed by the SDK. Again, this is hardly as simple the iPhone's screenshot interface, but it is still very doable.

So I will be getting my Incredible in on Monday. However, after seeing the Linpack screenshots for the MotoDroid at 2.2 I am wondering if the Incredible really is all that fast. I mean how come the Incredible is slower than the N1 if it has the same hardware? I know the difference is small but I just don't understand that. Also, how do they get the Shadow/Xtreme specs before it is released? Those specs are amazing, maybe I should have waited. Here is a link to the screenshots: Post Your Motorola Droid Froyo Quadrant Scores! | Droid Life: A Motorola Droid Blog. EDIT: The reason I am wondering about the 2.2 specs is because ours should be comparable to the Nexus One. How could the MotoDroid be so much faster than the N1? I'm not looking to bash any phone, I am just confused as to how this works out.

It seems every time I get a phonecall, I go to remove the phone from it's holster (leather horizontal type) and look down at the phone to get the "missed call" message... Doesn't matter if it's on the 1st, 3rd, 5th ring... it seems like it's auto-ignoring based on my attempts to get it out of the holster. Can someone tell me if this is a magnet deal, a setting i'm setting, or if there's an option I can turn off/program I can install that makes it harder to ignore calls? Perhaps I'm just brushing the ignore button? Unrelated, it seems if I get an email and don't look at my phone, it continues to beep at me every few minutes until I look at it, is there a way to tell it "notify once, then stfu"?

Two issues that are bugging me...
1) Is there a way to avoid notification sounds to take place during media playback, mainly music player, without having to change my sounds profile to silent, or vibrate?
2) All of a sudden my phone is taking a little long to load SMS conversations. Is there a way to fix that? I feel as though my Snapdragon shouldn't lag when I open a text.

This folder includes screen shots that are used for Internet Browser bookmarks. It also includes screen shots of web pages that I did not choose to bookmark. When I clear cache while in "Internet" in "Manage Applications" it does not remove these jpg files that are not being used for bookmarks. When I clear everything while in Internet app (in settings) it does not remove these jpg files either. It also does not remove them from within the HistoryEraser app. The only way I can remove the jpg files is with Astro or when connected to PC. I have to go through them and erase jpgs that I do not want there.
There were 72 jpg files in that directory and they go all the way back to when I got phone (on 4/29). I have only added 5 bookmarks myself during that time. They do not take up a lot of space but I just don't want them there.

I have a list of instructions but the only in-depth ones are for windows. I downloaded the Android SDK zip file but when the directions tell me to look at the Google Android SDK, I'm totally lost. Are there instructions out there for us mac users that I'm just missing?

I'd like to take screenshots on my android phone. I'm an app developer and have a pretty good understanding of the regular API, and I know this steps out of the "regular" thing quite a bit. I would have root access. I've seen a few apps that do this. I'm just wondering how one goes about doing it. Anybody know the general direction I should be looking in?

What's the reason that a phone needs to be rooted in order to take screenshots? I'm almost in disbelief that something as simple as a screenshot app isn't available (or built-in!) for an unrooted phone. It just seems like such a normal thing to do.Is it possible that in the future an unrooted phone can have an app to do this, or is there something about Android itself that doesn't allow it?

How to take screenshots of your Android based phone from Windows - Simple Help..To get the Android drivers, i had to install the HTC Sync program that comes on the disc with your phone, or you can download the drivers from the HTC Site: HTC Desire - Software Download. To enable USB Debugging: Settings->Applications->Development->USB Debugging.Once you have everything installed and run the DDBMS.bat, which starts the Davlik Debugger.Single left click on the device (your phone listed). Loadsa info will scroll up in the bottom pane. Then just go Device (menu) and screen capture. The rest is simple.I then created an account on Photobucket.com to host the images that i took.

Haven't downloaded a different camera app or anything, but when taking about every third or fourth photo my screen freezes up. And I mean over 20 seconds of wait time. The photo is there, but the phone isn't doing anything. I pressed menu, back, etc, and no response. Finally after pressing the top unlock button the phone wakes back up and loses the picture. My SD card is a class 6 - so shouldn't be having problems writing to it, correct?

I know a lot of people have been experiencing 4-5 hour time periods for charging the phone. If you want to cut that down to 2 hours or possibly less, just follow my fix steps!
1. Plug phone in
2. Turn Phone Off
3. Wait 5 seconds
4. Turn Phone On
Voila! But i still do the turning the phone off to get the full charge thing. Hope this helps you all!

Not sure if everyone is aware, but you can actually take pictures just by touching the screen on where you want to focus and holding your finger there for about a second...I find it more useful than using the optical trackpad button.

Since i got 2.2 it is taking much longer to CHARGE my battery. Before the update, it seemed to gain about 1% every minute, so about 1.5hrs to go from 15% or so to full. I thought it seemed longer lately, so at about 11:20 i plugged it in with 17%. At 1am, it was at 66%. Usually it would be close to or at 100%. What gives?

Does anyone ever have trouble taking the back battery cover off? I just got my phone on Monday, and ever since I put the cover on I've wanted to take the cover off to see if I can find where the SD card is (which if anyone could point that out for me that would be great). However, when I get where only the part where it has the slit open, I feel like I would break the rest if I keep pulling that is how good it is on my phone.

I was experiencing the "freezes" that others have complained about. The phone itself would freeze up after taking a picture or I'd get a black screen right after activating the camera. After some experimenting, I found something interesting that might help others with this problem. I don't understand why this would work, but it does, at least for me.
If I activate the camera while the phone is vertical and wait until the picture comes on the screen and then turn it horizontal, I have no problems, it takes pictures from then on either vertically of horizontally. But if I am holding the phone horizontally. and then activate the camera, I get the black screen or if I do get a picture, the camera freezes after taking the shot. Maybe the part of the OS that detects orientation is having compatibility problems with the camera software?

I successfully followed the instructions to upgrade to Froyo and got the Root done. I also updated my radio to the new one. Before I upgraded from 2.1 I could play a song using the media player and then open up the camcorder and take a video and the music would keep playing in the background as kind of the background music for whatever I was recording. After the update to Froyo now when I have a song playing and I open up the camcorder, the music stops.
Now I figure that this is the way that most of you guys want it. But I was having one hell of a time playing some Rolling Stones and having my girlfriend lipsync to the entire thing. We were making some great and funny videos. So my question is, is there any way to get the music player to stay on. Is anyone aware of any settings there are for this. I am probably going to roll back to 2.1 anyway and wait for the official OTA, but I figure this won't work the way that I want it to when it comes out officially either.

Droid Incredible 2.2 no root default camera app user. When I tap to focus on the camera and am really close to something it goes from blurry to sharp and then blurry at the last second (when it snaps the picture) I took this video to demonstrate what I mean. Is there any way to take a picture like this? Or to manually focus with the stock camera app? Or an app that will help me take good quality macro pics of coins, pins, etc. I will pay for an app. I saw posts with the macro camera lens but I have no desire to glue a metal washer onto my camera lens.

Does anyone know the steps I'd need to take to get the video from a DVD onto my phone to watch? I want to watch some stuff on an airplane, and the phone is easier to handle than my laptop. I know how to rip the DVD to an ISO on my PC. I have used Handbrake to convert other videos to be viewable on my phone. What I don't know are the necessary intermediate steps.

I attempted earlier this week to manually install the update, it wouldn't go for me. I got the notification this AM about the update, selected to reboot and got the error screen. After reboot when I go to check for system updates it tells me I'm up to date with 2.0.1. I may back up my texts, though I don't have any critical info there, and do a factory reset then try the manual update process again. Factory reset shouldn't wipe the SD card, right?
