HTC Incredible :: Recovery Mode - Goes To A Blank Screen?

Nov 9, 2010

I had a older dinc. that had 2.1 on it and it got broke so i got a new incredible that has 2.2 factory on it. i went thru the root process, and rooted it using the guide and everythign looked ok and went thru fine. "s" off and everything. well when you go into recovery mode, it goes to a blank screen and has the two white bars on each side of the screen. i thought i had this fixed with a link that had a update that i ran. now it is happned again. also when i tried to download a new rom and went to install it gets hung up in the htc screen for 45 min and during the process it seems to have bries screen flashes of siff colors... im not a pro at this but when i had my old dinc, never had any problems rooting or changing roms or anything... is there something missing? should i downgrade to 2.1 on this on and try to go that route?

HTC Incredible :: recovery mode - goes to a blank screen?

HTC Incredible :: Clockwork Recovery Blank Screen

Oct 1, 2010

I have successfully rooted my Dinc 2.2 using unREVoked but recovery mode just gives me a blank screen with white bars down the sides. The buttons and trackpad do not have any effect. Only way I can get out of the blank screen is to pull the battery. I have ROM manager premium and it says Clockwork 2.5.0.5 is there and the clockwork folder is on the sdcard. I've tried re-flashing Clockwork several times from ROM manager. Everything else works fine.

Android :: Blank Screen Appear When EditText Get Focus In IDPI Mode

Oct 10, 2010

I found that when EditText in placing at the bottom of screen, and the activity's android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustPan", and the apps run in ldpi(240*320) mode, then when EditText has focus, the content of the activity is panned too far to the above, thus leaving a blank screen between the content of the window and the soft input panel.

You can see the screenshot of this problem at
https://sites.google.com/site/wilderwang/android
Also, the source code to repro this problem can also be get at
https://sites.google.com/site/wilderwang/android

When I test further, if the same apps run in hdpi(480*800), when EditText got focus, the content of the window panned too small thus causing the soft input window cover the EditText view. It seems the distance of the window panned not compute the screen density.

HTC Incredible :: No Recovery Mode

Aug 6, 2010

So I decided to root my HTC Incredible today. I followed the instructions on youtube and Cyanogen to do the rooting. I managed to root it, and then it told me to update my radio (baseband) to the latest one. So I did that. It installed fine, seems to have reformated my phone, which wasn't a big issue, but somehow it unrooted or deleted my rooted files...no big deal there, either, right? Well, when I go to re-root the phone, I am now unable to log in to Recovery Mode. I will press the power button+vol down and it will go to the HBOOT window. I'll then choose Recovery, press power, and it simply goes to the Fastboot option and from there I can go back to my HBOOT or all the other options on the Hboot window. I can not, however, get it in to Recovery Mode with the little red ! mark, etc. so that I can root the phone.I've tried using ADB in shell (on my computer) and I get permission denied on everything, so I am assuming it's because the phone is no longer rooted. However, the OS boots up fine, and the baseband reads 2.05.00.06.11 which I am assuming is correct ? Though my firmware reads as 2.1-update1. I've been trying to figure this out for hours I've tried Revoked 3 and it will take over the phone, reboot it, go to bootloader, load to the Android OS while on my PC Revoked says Waiting for Reboot and then it does nothing.Again, thanks for any help you can give me!

HTC Incredible :: Recovery Mode 2.2

I was trying to put my Inc into recovery mode on 2.2 and it vibrated 3 times and then completely died, lol, like the charging light went out and I couldn't get it to turn back on, did a battery pull and all was well, but tried it again and the same thing happened, any clue how to go into recovery? Also I want to reset my phone to default, is there another way instead of going thru recovery?

HTC Incredible :: Getting Into Recovery Mode?

Jun 15, 2010

This is the only repeatable way on my phone. This is assuming you have the required files and SDK kit already set up and are just having trouble entering recovery mode.

Go to your C:/sdk/usb_driver folder and open android_winusb.inf.

As other instructions have mentioned, copy and paste these lines twice total - once under [Google.NTx86] and once under [Google.NTamd64]:

;HTC Incredible
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USBVID_0BB4&PID_0C9E
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USBVID_0BB4&PID_0C9E&MI_01
%SingleBootLoaderInterface% = USB_Install, USBVID_0BB4&PID_0C94

Start with your phone off but unplugged. Boot the phone while holding the optical trackpad. Go to device manager at your computer. You should see the ADB interface listed near the top of your devices. Look back at your phone, hit the volume down arrow to select recovery and then hit the power button.

Now here, what normally happened for me (and those having trouble accessing recovery mode) is that the ADB would dissapear from device manager after 20 seconds and something called Android 1.0 would pop up. The computer could not access the proper drivers for this and hence ADB can not communicate with the phone. Once you see this Anroid 1.0 pop up in device manager, right click on it and hit update drivers. Don't do automatic update - point your computer to C:/sdk/usb_driver folder. Hit okay and it should automatically recognize the proper driver and install it. You know you are golden when Android 1.0 is replaced with something like HTC Bootloader Interface in device manager.

In short, you are:

1. Loading the phone into recovery mode without drivers installed to force the error to pop up in device manager
2. Install the modified driver .inf file WHILE THE PHONE IS IN THE "RECOVERY" MODE

Next, unplug the phone and pull the battery. Replace the battery and boot the phone as if you were going to use it normally. Once you reach your home screen, power down the phone normally - DO NOT PULL THE BATTERY. Once the phone has shut down, power it up again as if you were going to use it normally. However, this time in the split second between the HTC Quietly Brilliant logo and the Verizon logo, pull the battery.

This was the critical step for me. If I pull the battery during the first HTC logo or after the phone boots, recovery mode will never be activated. IF I wait until that second between the HTC Quietly Brilliant Logo and the Verizon logo, it works 100% of the time. I suspect this is because the phone is detecting a failed boot and somehow enabling recovery mode.

After pulling the battery, start the phone while holding down the optical trackpad. Hit the volume down, and select recovery. This time, your computer will recognize the drivers after a few seconds and won't give you the Android 1.0 error.

You should not be able to push the files and payload and achieve root.

In summation, there are two absolutely critical components that are neccessary for me - installing the modified drivers through device manager while the phone is in the bootloader, and only trying to launch recovery mode after pulling the battery to simulate boot failure in between the Quietly Brilliant and Verizon logos.

I'd be interested to know if this is just my device or if this works for others having trouble achieving recovery mode as well.

HTC Incredible :: Apps Disappearing / Home Screen Going Blank

Oct 11, 2010

So last night I went to change my battery and when the phone booted back up, a lot of programs were not installed anymore and I was getting about 3 other programs that were force closing right away when it came on.I tried to reinstall the apps, but I was still getting some force closes and general funny stuff going on.So I factory reset it and started from scratch again today. I got most of my apps reinstalled and thought it was fine. Then just a little while ago, I noticed that I couldn't browse the Internet or use the market. I rebooted and it was fine.A little while later I went to use my phone to make a call and when I unlocked it, all my home screens were blank! Reboot again and that fixed it.

HTC Incredible :: Way To Bring Phone Out Of ClockWork Recovery Mode?

Sep 24, 2010

I recently rooted my phone which was on 2.2 at time of rooting using unrevoked3. Everything was going well, I performed a full Nandroid backup, moved su to systemxbin as suggested in many posts. Today I did a phone shutdown, then pressed power + volume down to get into the ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.5 menu with the intention of doing another Nandroid backup. I selected 'backup and restore' from the recovery menu and then pressed the power button to select. But pressing the power button only blacks out the screen instead of selecting the menu option. I tried depressing the power button for a longer period of time...same result. Essentially, I'm unable to get out of the Clockwork menu.

HTC Incredible :: Can't Hard Reset Or Enter Recovery Mode

Nov 14, 2010

I have a Droid Incredible that I rooted with UnRevoked3 about a week ago. I want to do a hard reset, but it just sticks at the first white "HTC Incredible" boot screen. I get the same result if I try to enter recovery mode. I can get into HBOOT ok by pressing the vol down and power button, but if I select any option it locks on the "htc Incredible" boot screen. I searched around for this problem for an hour and I've come up dry.

HTC Desire :: Phone Give Black Screen Of Death When Try To Enter Recovery Mode

Aug 2, 2010

I recently tried to root my HTC desire using UNrevoked 3.1. Everything was going well and I even had the desktop gui tell me that the process was "done", however the phone never made it into the green and black recovery menu, and now when I try and enter the recovery menu the phone gives a black screen. I then have to do a hard reset by taking out the battery. I have tried running unrevoked again with the same results and have tried using Rom manager to enter recovery this way, niether of which have helped.

I've spent alot of time searching without answers, if any one thinks they can help or just point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

Also the softkey buttons stay lit up above the trackpad. Running Frankenrom right now but also had it on the new deodexed leak. Reboot cures it for quite awhile, but it seems to return eventually. I think it's possible it might be due to creating a custom profile in SetCPU for "Screen Off" mode. Just wanted to verify if anybody has pinned it down yet. Happens both when charging and during normal use.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 :: Blank Screen / Black Screen / Hang / Freeze Error?

Dec 2, 2010

This was reported in the other thread about X8 Issues, but thought to start a new one to gather feedback from users. It's about the ''black screen'' freezing issue encountered by some users. I have had this several times since owning the phone for a few weeks, so it is a recurring issue. Problem: The phone hangs or appears to be shut down or become unresponsive suddenly. Pressing the hardware buttons doesn't help as the phone doesn't react at all. Solution: Take out cover and battery and restart.Observations: From my own observations, it's not actually a shutdown but a major freezing/hanging. Sometimes when it happens, I can still see vague shades of the display at an angle. After leaving the phone for a while in the pocket, the phone comes back to normal again. Not sure if this is true for all users with this problem. Anyway, gathering more feedback to see how prevalent the problem is, to evaluate whether I should take it to the SE service centre, or whether doing so will help at all.

HTC EVO 4G :: Screen Goes Blank

Jul 14, 2010

Some background info: I got an HTC Evo a few days after the initial launch. I had no problems with the screen at first at least for a few weeks. Then all of a sudden, the screen would go blank after I took the phone off the charger, or would finish a call, and a few other instances. After dealing with that for a little over a week, I took the Evo back to sprint and got a brand new one. I looked all over the forums, but could not find any answers. I know some others are having this issue, but it doesn't seem that widespread. So I get the new phone, and for the first day, I don't install any of the apps I had on the last phone because of a lack of time. No problems to report the first day of use, so I think I'm in the clear. The next day I start installing all of the apps I had on the first Evo, and bang, it starts to happen again. The screen goes blank, and I can do nothing to turn it on except to pull the battery out and restart the phone which is a monster pain. After all of this, I have to think its a software issue. Some app I have running could be causing this? How likely is it that 2 Evo's have this exact same problem, and that it's hardware related? Here is a list of apps I have installed on my phone: maui9111's Apps on the phone. I tried uninstalling several of them, but still can't find the solution. Anyone have any ideas? I love this phone, but this issue is driving me nuts!

HTC Desire :: Screen Stays Blank

Jul 25, 2010

The thing is that time to time my device does not respond to screen touch. For instance: then there is an incoming call it stays blank and I can not see who is calling and at the same time not able to answer it.

Touching the screen does nothing, only after pushing hard buttons, I am able to terminate the call. Also, when I am trying to access the OS from sleep mode by pressing the power button--there is no home screen--it stays blank. The only thing it does---the lights go on the home, menu, back and search buttons.

I did contact ot HTC help service and they told me to try to use the device in safe mode for two days. (this should terminate all 3rd party applications, that might cause the issue). Its my first day that I am use is in the safe mode and so far I do not experience any problems.

I do suspect that the reason of my problem could be the task killer that I am using in order to eliminator some programs running in background. But I did try out several task killers so far, however the issue remains the same

HTC Desire :: Blank Screen During After Call

Sep 30, 2010

I have an HTC Desire and I managed to break the LCD. I had the LCD and touchscreen replaced (don't ask long story) and now I have the following issue: When I make a call and even before I lift the phone to my ear the screen goes blank. None of the buttons work but the call is fine - I can be heard/hear the other person. When the other person ends the call the phone bips to tell me the call is over, but the screen stays blank. I can re-activate the screen by receiving a missed call - ie calling my phone and then hanging up re-activates the screen. In addition, when my phone rings the screen is fine, but as soon as I answer the call and lift the phone to my ear the screen goes off as before. The only other way to bring the screen back is to remove the battery. Whilst the screen is blank I loose all touch-screen capability too. Everything else on the phone works perfectly, sync to email, text, GPS, camera, internet etc all not a problem.
