HTC Incredible :: Jager Rom Boot Sound

Sep 16, 2010

I downloaded Jager Rom from ROM Manager and really....really want to get rid of the boot noise. It announces that I'm messing with my phone to the entire office. I looked in /data/local and don't see it. Anyone know where to kill this annoyance? Otherwise, I like the ROM and I'm switching back and forth between Virtuous for Sense and Jager for nonsense.

HTC Incredible :: SU Included With Jager ROM Not Working

Jun 30, 2010

So I installed the Jager ROM over the weekend, and today I had a problem with the SU program included not working. This sucks because now I can not back anything up or do anything that requires SU privies. The SU program just force closes when it comes up in any program that needs it. I downloaded another SU program but the old one always comes up. Is there a way to change this or uninstall the other one. I found the same one in the market but it wont install. Maybe cause its read only?

HTC Incredible :: Jager Sense Rom MMS Message

Jun 27, 2010

I have found a slight issue with the Jager Sense rom, which other than this is so full of win.

I am using Handcent and my phone it will no longer send MMS messages. It just acts like it's sending, indefinitely.

I noticed in Titanium that there was an app called Messages 1.00, which cannot be installed back to the phone from there.

I believe that this app not being installed is the cause of the issue, but I don't see it in the the Backup folder.

What the heck is the technical name for this app, so I can push it back. I know kind of a stupid ?? It's been a long day.

Android :: How To Acquire Device Name With Code

As we know, when we connect the G1 phone with USB, we could use "adb devices" to show its device name. My question is whether there is a method to detect this device name in phone with code, or how to judge the "device name" is the just "myself" with code?

Servicestop() Doesn't Stop GPS Acquire?

Jul 4, 2012

When user press log off button following 2 lines should happen:

stopService(myIntent);
unbindService(mConnection);

myIntent is same intent that was used to start service(desperate attempt to get this working). mConnection is basically straight from android's development center.

I have verified that service's onDestroy gets called. There it sets boolean variable true to make Runnable stop it's course(which among itself starts up gps tracking if certain requirements happen), calls the locationManager's removeCallbacks and finally calls super.onDestroy function.

I thought this was supposed to be enough to stop the service from running and acquiring GPS positions(and likely sends them to server too) but the GPS acquiring symbol is STILL blinking. I presume this is not just graphical error by the phone but that it still is searching(and wasting battery).

What have I done incorrectly? What else I need to do to get the service stop when I want? Service dying off when android decides off yet staying up when I'm trying to get it closed.

Android :: Possible To Wake The Device With - PowerManager.WakeLock.acquire

Jun 16, 2010

I have a timer that schedule a task to run every 5 minutes. This task send a request to a server, so I need to be sure that CPU is on so that wifi or 3g can be used.

So the first thing I do in my run() method is :

CODE:.........

And the last thing I do in the run() is : wl.release() ;

I would like not to release here to be sure my service will run in the next 5 minutes :

The question is : if the device is already in a sleep state, can I wake up it with my wl.acquire() ?

Android :: Exception - Attempt To Acquire A Reference On A Close SQLiteClosable

Sep 27, 2009

I posted this back in May on the [android-developers] Google Group. I never heard back and was not able to reproduce the problem until one of my students did last week. I figured I'd post it here and see if it rang any bells for anyone.

In one of my code samples, I have the following method:

CODE:..............

When I run it, sporadically, I get this:

CODE:......................

This makes no sense to me. The database is definitely open. The SQLiteClosable is the SQLiteQuery created by SQLiteQueryDriver, and I see no evidence that there is an object pool or something going on here that might explain how a "new" SQLiteClosable is already closed. The fact that it is sporadic (meaning the same UI operations sometimes trigger the exception, but not always) suggests some sort of pool, race condition, or something...but I'm not sure where.

The code in question is from the LunchList tutorials out of my Android Programming Tutorials book. It's a bit spread out and not terribly suitable for posting directly in SO. You can download the code for that book from the above link if you want to take a look at it. I do not recall exactly which edition of the tutorial the student was working on at the time, though it was in the Tutorial 12-Tutorial 16 range. I was mostly hoping to run across somebody who had tripped over this problem before and had a likely culprit. I'm fairly certain my database is open.

General :: HTC Acquire Root - Reboot Into Recovery Mode It Says Locked?

Nov 13, 2012

Ok, I just bought an HTC Acquire with Android Version 2.3.4 HTC Sense 3.0 Software number 1.26.557.9 Kernel 2.6.35.10

When I reboot it into recovery mode it says:

***Locked***

Kingdom PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.22.0000
RADIO-1.11.00.0903
eMMC-boot
Aug 8 2011

I have tried to root this phone using Gingerbreak, Revolutionary, Z4root, and a few others. When I search on Google or the XDA website I can't find absolutely anything about an HTC Acquire. It's like the internet thinks the phone doesn't exist? I recently upgraded to it from my HTC Desire CDMA Bravo-c that I had rooted, flashed a custom rom, custom kernel, custom radio, the works.

HTC Hero :: Phone Only Half Rooted - ERROR - Sorry Could Not Acquire Root Privileges

Nov 14, 2010

With a free sunday at my disposal, i thought i would try and sort my hero out as it has become super-laggy after the OTA 2.1 update (HTC hero locked to 3UK network, previously had 1.5).

So i've been trying to read as much as i can on this and other forums and got as far as installing Universal Androot, which reported success in rooting the phone.

However have now installed (and bought PRO ver) of Titanium Backup which refuses to recognize the root. It returns:

ERROR: Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will *not* work! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes BusyBox, and try again.

Yet, TB is listed as 'allowed' under SuperUser Permissions. And even weirder when the error dialogue box comes up sometimes a strapline flashes briefly across the screen 'Titanium backup has been granted .. permissions'. I take it that this is Superuser informing me.

So why doesn't Titanium recognize the root? Have tried re-starting and rerunning Androot (which reports that phone is already rooted, do you still wish to proceed). It's almost as if superuser isn't giving the OK fast enough or something.

Obviously don't want to start messing around with ROMs if i can't first backup my data!

HTC Incredible :: Location Based Services

May 24, 2010

I know there are many posts about location based widgets not working correctly (and I have read lots of them). Some people say they do and others say they don't work right. on my DI I can not get the Sense Weather/Clock to follow where I am currently (GPS on or off). Is it supposed to?? It would seem to me that it should be able to get a rough area based on what cell towers I'm hitting, but that doesn't work for anything. Every weather based widget I've tried works solely off GPS and when I am in my building at work there is no connecting to the GPS Sats. So before I go off on a tangent I'll ask my question(s). Should non-GPS location services work? Or does everything need GPS on and connected? I only have about a week left and I want to make sure that my phone is working correctly before my 30 days are up. This is the only frustrating thing I have found with the phone so far.

HTC Incredible :: Google Wants To Know Your Location (Prompt)

Aug 9, 2010

I found this post:
http://androidforums.com/support-troubleshooting-evo-4g/142216-google-com-wants-know-your-location-prompt.html
In the EVO 4G section and I'm having the same issue with my Incredible. For the past couple of days every time I go to google.com I receive this prompt

This happens using the native browser or using Dolphin browser. All my location settings are set to allow sites to use my location (in the phone options and all browser options). I get the prompt both when I am logged into google and when I am logged out. I've even checked my google account settings "save recent locations" is set as On and "allow use of device location" is set to YES. No matter what combination of options I select within the prompt, it comes back every time I go to google.com. I've rebooted and even pulled out the battery and nothing changes. GPS on or off has no effect and clearing out my caches hasn't changed it either. My phone is stock except for being rooted.

HTC Incredible :: Using Apps With Network Location / Not GPS

Oct 24, 2010

Based on what I've been reading, leaving GPS on won't drain more battery. It's just merely allowing apps to use the GPS.That said, if you have GPS on and have apps that use GPS, you will drain more battery.I want to leave my GPS on for "Where's my Droid." My question is this: how do I make it so that apps (weather widget, etc.) only use network location and not GPS? Is there a way to block all apps except those I choose from using GPS ?

HTC Incredible : How Can I Get Weather App To Use GPS Instead Of Network Location?

May 15, 2010

It keeps telling me I'm in the town across the river. Maybe according to the network location I am in that town but when I go to maps and it uses GPS it realizes the proper city. The weather app often makes this mistake. I thought when I setup my device it may have asked if I want to use GPS or just network location for something but I can't find that setting anymore. Any ideas on how to get more accurate current location for the weather widget?
