HTC Incredible :: What Is Voice Privacy Mode?
May 3, 2010
Does anyone have any definitive answer on this? I've seen a few hypothesis in regard to the Hero and CDMA? I have it turned off, but if anyone knows what it is and if I need to turn it back on let a brother know.....

On the home screen, menu, settings, call settings there is "voice privacy" and "voice privacy notification" does anybody know what call privacy is or does and why would I want to be notified? I was trying to see if I can set the number of rings before voicemail picks up. I couldn't find the option I was looking for, instead I found this and I have no idea what it does. I am away from home and don't have the manual with me.

I just got the Hero today and I am very annoyed by the SMS feature of displaying the text message on the screen. It seems that I can either have absolutely no notification of a new text message or I can have this major intrusion of privacy by having the message displayed for all to see. I hand my phone to people constantly to use at my job sites. I trust they are not fishing around in my phone, but when it just shows up on the screen, how can they help but read it. Is there a privacy mode or a way of turning off that display bar?

Have an iPhone and part rely on it for diction and recordings. However a new software upgrade has meant when it's recording it tells you on the home screen if you press the button to wake it up, even if locked. Does the android have voice recording in sleep mode and if so does it do so without it stating it on the screen?

Any app for GPS navigation which has voice routing possible in pedestrian mode? I sometimes need to go to some destination in a part of the city which is not familiar for me.
However, the navigations I tried, have voice routing only in car mode, so it has to take in account things like driving directions etc. which the pedestrian does not have to respect and thus the track is much shorter.
It would be nice if I, for example, just could get off the bus, switch my GPS on, select destination, activate the voice routing and put my phone in a pocket and let the navigation voice guide me to the target place. It would be more comfortable as I sometimes see the map very poorly and also have to keep an eye on other pedestrians, cars etc.
Currently tried Sygic and it does not have this.

Is there an app that makes images/messages/videos only accessible with password? I could even pay for it, if it's possible from Finland. This is quite important to me because of my friends and family who will defianetly want to try the phone out once I get it.

I just found out, that the "Privacy" -tab (home-menu-settings-privacy?) is missing ?
I gave the "factory defaults" reset in two ways, but it didn't help.
(home-menu-settings-sd&phone storage-factory data reset and pressing vol-power etc)
How could I get the backup data from the SD, while the bloody tab has gone somewhere...
It seems, that backup-directory still remains with several *.arc -files.
The phone is HTC Desire; with sw-version 2.10.205.2

I have a student who sent a text message to me (Motorola Droid/Verizon) and since has been able to track my location GPS. He posted pictures on facebook, and then also showed me my current location this past weekend.
So it seems, because of the one text message he sent (I replied), He is now able to track my coordinates wherever I go. Obviously, I am really bothered by this invasion of privacy.
The text message he sent was : "GPS my Droid"
And I responded: "Huh?"
I would like to know what I can do to block whatever he is doing.
I am rooted, running Ultimate Droid.

I use the K-9 email app for some of my email accounts that aren't gmail. I have it working the way I want save only one problem. Right now when I get a mail it flashes the subject line or the first line of the email across my notification bar at the top of my screen. This is especially troubling when I'm in the car and I have my droid mounted in the car dock. I don't necessarily like my passengers in the car to be able to read the email message I just got as their heads whip to the droid when it says ..... DROID!
Handcent app doesn't have this problem. I can set each individual contact to a privacy mode where so I only get notified, but no part of the text appears in the notification bar. Is there a similar "privacy" setting for K-9 that I'm missing? If I can't get this figured out soon I'm going to have to try another email app.

Firstly, when I get my larger (32gb) micro sd card, would I be right in saying that it's just a case of copying everything from my existing card onto my PC, and then from my PC back onto the larger card?
And the other thing, is there a setting on the Galaxy GT-i15700, or one I can download for it, that wil allow me to 'password protect' a folder that I create ?

My personal phone is the Moto droid (verizon), and I use it for all my personal stuff... gmail, internet browsing, google calendar, personal calls/contacts, etc.
It would be convenient to view my work email (corporate exchange server) on my droid.
If I enable the exchange account on my droid, how much control to I cede to the corporate IT department (I really don't trust them with any of my personal info)?
I heard that they can (also heard that they can't) wipe my phone. Is that true? If so, is it just my corporate/exchange email, or the gmail, personal contacts, google calendar (etc)?
Can they access browser history? Phone logs? personal contacts?
Basically, I'd like to keep my personal and work lives as separate as possible, but it would be easier to carry access my exchange email from that personal device.

There was an article on the BBC website a few days ago about a study that was done that found applications on the Android Market were transmitting information back like phone numbers, IMEI numbers and SIM serial numbers when the permissions were only for location, camera and audio data. (Original article: BBC News - Google Android apps found to be sharing data )
It appears that Google's response was something along the lines that the apps give the user the choice to continue with the install and it is up to the user to only install apps they trust. I for one think that I am a bit careful in what I choose to download (ie: why would an app for wallpapers want access to my contacts? etc) but how can you really know for sure it is only getting the info it says it wants and where are the boundries?
I don't know enough about programming and the like but was just wondering with the new Sense and other apps where you can remotely wipe your phone if stolen and other such things, if other companies (or even a kid in his bedroom who write a simple app game and gets access to your phone's details) have this info (IMEI number etc), how do you protect yourself? Am I just being overly paranoid? On the other hand, I don't want to have a phone and *not* download any apps!
Is there someplace that can explain what permissions would give me a definite "no" for certain types of apps? Something like "a game should never want access to x, y, z." Although this probably wouldn't help if the app was taking more info than it needs anyway from the particular 'permission'.
I had a quick browse of the actual research paper and a lot of it is just techno-jiggery to me but I do recognize some apps that I would have normally trusted (ie: Layars, Barcode Scanner, Astrid). I don't know if these particular apps took more info than they should have but it does make me wonder. (Research can be found from here: TaintDroid: Realtime Privacy Monitoring on Smartphones )

I'm searching for some messenger with strong privacy and "secret" features. Better explained, I've found Telegram as a good alternative to Whatsapp with its encryption features, but it lacks one thing that I really need: I'd like to keep some chat very private: it will be very useful if the conversation had some kind of PIN-password-pattern unlocking features.
This is possible for sms (Handcent, for example), but I haven't found it in any Messenger service.

I found a program on the Android Market called "Vaulty" (there are both free and paid versions), which password-protects media such as pictures and videos. Upon reviewing the app, there is no privacy policy in the app menu, or on the website. The app does require full internet access (advertisements), SMS/MMS control (to save MMS attachments?), and of course permissions to modify SD content.
If the content is hidden, there is probably a good reason why it is, and I just wanted people to consider this when downloading an app. Someone might end up with pictures of your wife, husband, significant other, dog, cat, computer password, or whatever you're trying to hide.
