HTC Incredible : Way To Backup Inc / Pc?
May 1, 2010
I thought I heard something that inc did not need backing up as data is on the cloud. Is there anyway to backup to computer. I would like to try and keep my UI and apps all saved in case all goes to hell.

Rooted DInc then removed some apps like city id. I had purchased some apps before I rooted and I was curious as to first, how and where do I backup using titanium backup? Second, say if I factory reset my phone then put the paid apps back on would it still recognize that I already paid and still give new updates? Also side question, if I remove friendstream will facebook still sync with the facebook app and sync photos my phone book?

I am trying to backup my current contact on my dumbphone, but I'm having trouble doing it. I can't get backup assistant by going to "get it now" on my phone and when I try to send backup assistant to my phone on verizon's website, it will only let me send it to the primary account number (i'm on a family plan) and not my number.

I am noticing that after installing SkyRaider 2.2 and Titanium backup when I open backup the bubble screens saying TB has asked for root permission etc stay on the screen and won't go away unless I turn the screen off and back on. Anyone notice this or have any ideas? I will try uninstalling Titanium and reinstalling and see what that does.

I'd like to use the new Unrevoked root on my Incredible. The only problem right now is that I'd like to know my path back to root-free and stock. That path currently involves wiping everything, that kinda sucks.
Right now I'm scattered throughout backups. Lookout for contacts/call history/pictures, SMS Backup/Restore for that, VZW Backup Assistant, ASTRO for my apps. I feel like restoring all that would be a pain.
Is there a way to snapshot my current pre-root state so I can restore it if I decide to unroot?

All of my photos are saved to my SD card. Is it best to just plug my Dinc into my PC and backup the SD card in it to the PC or should I do this a different way?

Is there a way to backup the Handcent settings? Took me a couple hours to completely customize Handcent the way I wanted it and now if I upgrade to Froyo I'll lose all the settings. Titanium Backup doesn't backup anything but the application.

I'm coming from WM6. I use to use Dashwire which synced all my contacts, pics, txt messages to an online accessible site. Unfortunately, dashwire doesnt support android.
1. Are there any sites like this for android?
2. Are there any online sites that support WM6 and Android? This would make it alot easier for me to transfer my contacts and info from my WM6 phone to android.

So I've rooted my phone but I want to install a custom ROM. I've read that I need (and I definitely want) to create a nandroid backup. The only problem is I have no idea how. I have ROM Manager installed. I read I need to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery so I did that. However, when I try to reboot into recovery either through Rom Manager or just holding volume down and power I get nothing. Does anyone have a clear and detailed guide on what to do? I'm not dead set on using Rom Manager I was just reading that it'd be easier.

I have a question about how the Backup Assistant works. I currently have an LG Dare and have Backup Assistant on it. I will be getting my DINC in mid-July (hopefully! ). I assume that I will be able to simply download the backup assistant app on the DINC and update all of the contacts from the Dare, is that correct? I really don't want to have to set up all of these contacts again.

Under Settings>>Accounts & Sink backup assistant is an option. I set it up because I was curious to know what it was, however now that I know that all it does is back-up contacts and now that I know that I can't logout, I WANT IT GONE! How can I undo this?

How to disable / turn off Verizon Backup Assistant without a factory reset (and Use gmail contacts sync only - recommended!)
Also in post #3 below: How to Sync Contacts with Gmail and Change Contact type from Phone to Google
Disabling Backup Assistant on the HTC Droid Incredible There may be other ways to disable backup assistant, but follow these steps to remove duplicate contacts and backup assistant without having to factory reset. Please be aware that I just tinkered around until I got the desired result. I'm no expert and I have no idea if this effects the phone in any other way. I did this over the weekend and everything is working perfectly on my phone. So proceed at your own risk, I don't want to get any pm's about how your phone blew up. I'm just trying to help out here.
1) Be sure to have all your contacts backed up to your Gmail account. Check online before proceeding to step 2.
2) Log into your My Verizon account. Go to the contacts tab, sort by list view and select all contacts. Delete the entire list. There's a deleted contacts tab as well. Select that and delete anything that's in there.
3) Go into your Incredible settings tab, select applications, manage applications. Do not sort or filter, allow list to populate. Select Sync Service, (icon resembles backup assistant icon) select clear data.
4) Also in manage applications scroll down to backup assistant, select clear data. This should do it.
5) To verify backup assistant is now disabled, select settings, accounts and sync, then under manage accounts, select backup assistant. You should be looking at a license agreement screen.
No more backup assistant, no factory reset.

ALSO -
If you're rooted, you can use the free "Titanium Backup" to uninstall Backup Assistant. Be sure to back it up in Titanium backup before uninstalling it. After you uninstall, it will no longer appear at all in Accounts and Sync.

So, I have 2 backups. 1 is my stock rooted ROM and the other is virtuous. I see them on my SD card but it's not a zip file like the ROMs are, they are in a clockworkmod/backup/ folder. If I wanted to, how would I reflash/restore from the backup?

I want to know what the proper backup procedure is. My Incredible got dust in the screen so VRZ is sending me a refurb phone in the mail.
When I switched over from a ENV touch to a Incredible they were able to restore all my text messages, pics and contacts.
How do I do this with the Incredible?

I want to root my phone, I have been reading the how-to's and downloaded files. But first I need to back up my apps and programming. What program can I use the will backup the entire phone? (Note: I have my htc Incredible programmed to work on Alltel, so I want it to backup the programming too). I am good with computers, but just need a push in the right direction so if I mess up I can get my programming back and programs I bought. Without have to reset it up and re download.

Lets say you do a factory reset of your phone and want to put all your apps back on, you have to install each one individually with TB? I was hoping Titanium Backup worked kind of like Nandroid in that it just restored everything on it's own, or at least install the apps on it's own without you having to sit there and click install for each one. BTW I only have the free version.

Rooted my FroyoDinc w/ unrevoked 3 and unrevoked forever this morning. In my haste to explore I started deleting some of the Verizon bloatware such as Friendstream, Facebook, Footprint, City ID as well as a couple of others before stopping when I remembered that I should have immediatly run a nandroid and titanium backup after root.
My question, can I still use this nandroid and or titanium backup I made, minus the 4 or 5 misc items I deleted before backup, to restore my Dinc to stock if need be for either the next OTA update or if I run into problems playing w/ various ROM's?

So I am going to be doing a factory reset soon to hopefully solve some rebooting issues. For people who have done this before, what are some things you've overlooked for backing up your phone beforehand? I manage all of my contacts and calendar in Outlook on my PC, and I've been using AppBrain for tracking my downloaded apps so I'm not worried about that stuff. I plan on backing up my most used programs with their built in export functions. I have no problem re-doing most of my phone's settings. Is there any way to back up my custom scenes? I have a ton of shortcuts created that would be nice to keep.

i just did a nand restore and tried to run titanium backup but it keeps getting hung up, this time its been stuck at 42% for several minutes. should i just end process and try again?
i just stopped it at 42%...everything seems to have been restored from the nandroid restore. so i guess titanium is just to be used when your loading a custom rom and not a rom you have backed up?

I backed up all my apps and user data just fine with it. I just installed a new rom and Restored all the data and it went fine, but I was curious about one thing.
I have 110 apps on my phone, not sure if thats a lot or not, but its a PITA sitting there and hitting "Install" then "Done" 90 times. Is there a way to have it just restore without asking? I understand this is easier than trying to download and install them all over again.

So I just rooted my dinc and am about to add the ota radio update.zip but I'm trying to backup my stuff with titanium and can't seem to figure it out. I would greatly appreciate any advice or answers to these questions:
Must the phone be plugged into the computer? If so must it be windows?
Must usb debugging be on as well as allow unknown sources?
I download busy box and can get to the screen where I select backup apps and data but have no idea where the backup of this is stored...where? I hit the backup apps and data button and run but instantly I go back to the home screen. Is my stuff backed up? Please Help! THanks so much!

This may be somewhat of a silly/dumb question.....but can I rename the Nandroid backup files that I have made doing backups before flashing ROMs? I would like to know which one is which and I don't want to rely on my memory to have to remember. If this has been answered before, I apologize. If someone could point me in the right direction this thread can be deleted if it is old news.
