HTC :: Incredible Vs Desire
Mar 13, 2010
The only phone that i could see maybe having a very small chance of possibly leading me slightly away from the Incredible is the Desire. Here's how I see it: my handy chart shows, the incredible has a major advantage on network and the desire has a major advantage on looks. I don't know where I stand on physical vs touch buttons (especially if they have N1-type problems) and the rest of the specs are roughly equal, or not of great importance to me. Right now, the advantage arrows are showing a tie. Convince me to make them go one way or another! I am coming from t-mobile so any network would be an upgrade, and I think price is about the same for either choice.

Long time visitor, first time poster. Would like to pose a question to you all. Currently in Australia I've been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the HTC Desire to these shores on 27 April. However the specs of the Incredible have caught my attention as it appears to have a much better multimedia capability than the Desire eg the 8MP camera and rumoured ability to be able to video in 720p. really torn, even though there's still two weeks till the Desire's official launch, which leaves plenty of time to see if the Incredible does finally get announced overseas, should I hold off and wait to see what the Incredible is fully capable of, or is the extra power in the camera not worth the wait?Aside from the powered up camera - what does make the Incredible much better than the Desire I guess is my main area of interest. As if I decide to wait for the Incredible I'll probably have to figure out where to order it from overseas too.

live in the States, have been following HTC Incredible forum for awhile and was going to jump from US Cellular to Verizon in order to get the Inc., then heard about the HTC Desire coming to USCell. Anyone willing to help me understand the differences between the two ~ I have never owned a smartphone, I have read the specs carefully.I know the main differences being the camera.

Given the announcement of the recent Incredible OTA update, (mobile hotspot and 720p recording) any idea if we will be seeing this on the Desire.Should be pretty straightforward given the incredible is basically the same as the Desire.

It looks like the guys over at all droid aren't having luck with the desire ROM, its on a different network, GSM, its just not going well for the final touches, they may be completely moving over to the incredible ROM, come be doing it from scrap, day 1, no reusing. so I am excited for this now. Sense UI on Droid may still be possible.

does anybody know if maybe Desire uses the exact same screen technology as incredible? apparently, incredible has some new shit, superior. Or is it exactly like nexus? I have read in a couple of review that the screen on the desire feels more responsive and solid than that in the N1. Anyone?

Looks like from the specs it's a cdma desire with a slightly better camera. No 8gb ROM not even the 1gb ROM space of the evo 4g. Even the ram is the same.

Flash is reportedly able to run on some unrooted EVOs, Incredible, Desires and Heros. It sounds like it's hit or miss but I'd love to hear some feedback if anyone gets it working here. Android Delight Flash on the EVO 4G without Froyo. Say what?

if HTC Incredible/Nexus batteries are compatible with the Desire? I think i've seen some mention of people using Nexus batteries and as long as it's the standard capacity it should fit right? Whilst I doubt the capacity is as good as the official HTC ones you can get a charger and two 1400mah batteries on eBay for the price of a single Desire battery here..

I am very new to custom rom software and stuff since I got my first Android device from my brother. I am very upset at no ics for desire hd and found out about the rom by blackout. Since I am new, rooting seems really hard. Is there a way in which I could install the rom? Would unlocking the bootloader be enough?

So if the Desire Hd has the same screen resolution as the desire then the screen on the Desire Hd will look worse? And then would be a downgrade?

I'm considering selling my 5/6month old Desire to fund the purchase of a sim free HD.
Hopefully I'd only end up spending around 150-200 for it.
Is the jump up worth it? I'm a sucker for upgrade and I have to say the HD looks nicer than the Desire, but obviously it's what inside that count. Apparently.
One big thing is the whole htcsense.com thing, and with confirmation of the Desire getting support for that still quite unclear and apparently unlikely, I'm leaning towards getting the HD...

I've been having reception issues with Orange and they are sending me a new handset to see if that is the problem. If I drag all the data from the old SD card to my computer and then back over to the new SD card, will that keep all the setting form the HTC backup settings? Or do I have to point it in the right direction.

Sadly I didn't realise how bad Virgin are in my area, so I'll be cancelling my contract with them and moving back to o2...
Unfortunately this means I'll have to return the handset and get a new one from o2...
Does anyone know if there's a way of moving my apps or being able to download them again on the new handset?

I just got an HTC Desire that was locked to Telus (Canadian Carrier). I have read that numerous people are using it on Rogers network. From the day I got it when I put my rogers sim card in (the right way) it said "No SIM card in phone" so I could not enter an unlock code. Thinking the SIM was defective went to Telus and tried one of their sim cards and it worked fine, then I went to Rogers thinking it was a problematic card. We tried 4 cards and none of them worked. I then went to Bell (another canadian carrier) and tried their sim card. It worked as well but said that the phone was locked. I purchased an unlock code from the internet which worked. Now the Bell sim card works as well becuase the phone is unlocked. I put my Rogers SIM back into it and it still sais "No SIM card in phone". I also tried a SIM from a european company and it did not work as well. This HTC Desire works on the same 3G 850/1900 GSM that Rogers uses.

I have used Lambrospowers (XDA Forum) Rosie patch to enable drag n drop when in helicopter (leap) view. It works flawlessly on my rooted stock Froyo Desire. If anyone is interested, I will provide more info on how to install the patch and where to d/l it from.My desire is rooted but S-ON and odexed. It only works on rooted phones.I love this feature that only comes on DHD & DZ as part of the new sense 2.0 ui as standard.

My friend just lost his Desire at an airport. The pattern lock is active, but that does nothing but protect the data on the phone - Not SD. The first thing they would do is to switch the phone off and replace the sim.
Now here is my question : Is there an app that will send an sms to a preallocated number if the phone is booted up with a different sim? I know some Samsung phones can do this. But having an app that requires your own sim to be able to find it if stolen is quite pointless.

I have posed this question in some threads but as yet have made no progress.I am just curious as to why HTC appear to have left out the Bluetooth Voice Dialler function that can be provided by the Froyo 2.2 O/S. I believe this feature is present and enabled in some of the cooked roms and also in the Nexus one Vanilla 2.2 so why not here?If I have missed somthing simple or if anyone is aware why it is missing or how I can activate it that would be fantastic!

I have a problem with an HTC Desire. I have an emailaddress that does not require authentication for the outgoing mail. I've unchecked the "authentication required" tickbox and saved the settings.
Somehow the phone automatically resets the Authentication setting and there I can't send email.
My question: how can I prevent the Desire from automatically place a checkmark next to "Authentication Required"?

I've been adding, and uninstalling, I've been noticing some installed apps that I don't seem to be able to add to my screens, or use.
I was wondering what these were.
They are: -
Rosie Utility
Teeter
and
Street View (Okay I KNOW what this one is, but how do I add it to Google Earth/Maps)
Also I've noticed that on the pattern lock screen. There is a message that says, "This phone belongs to". How do I personalise this with my name?

I'm new to the Android OS having been a Symbian (2nd phone is a Nokia N97) and Windows Mobile user previously. My question regards a copy of Family Guy (Something, Something, Something, Dark Side) which I purchased yesterday. The standard DVD also comes with a digital copy on the DVD which, when inserted into the drive brings up a choice of transferring the file to my computer to be copied over to my Desire as either a iTunes file or a Windows Media Video (WMV).Ideally I want to avoid the iTunes route as currently I have no use for that program on my system so I would like to be able to use the WMV version. When I copied the file to my Desire, it didn't play and the phone didn't seem to recognise it. Can anyone please give me advice on how to play a WMV on my Desire?

This isn't a /major/ problem but it will irritate me if I can't find a solution! How can I get rid of all the game demos that Orange have so thoughtfully installed on my Desire? I've had a look in Settings > Applications but the Uninstall option for these doesn't show up.

I am toying with the idea of putting a Froyo Rom on my desire, but have several questions that aren't answered in other posts.
1. Will I need to unlock my phone before, during or after changing the Rom? I am not overly bothered by the orange stuff on my phone, but am worried about losing my WiFi connections!
2. Do I need a goldcard? Some instructions say yes, other no. None mention orange handsets specifically.
3. Which is the easiest & safest method to root my phone, if I want to put the Froyo Rom on it?
4. What if I want to change Roms - do I need to do the whole process again? I've seen something about a Rom manager, but where do you get it and how does it work?
5. Which Rom do I use? I've looked at some I'd the modacco forum ROMs, but most don't actually say what you do or don't get with them.
6. What's that difference between a2sd and a2sd+? Does it come as part of the ROM or so I news to get it separately?

I've been scouring the web a solution to this but can't seem to find it anywhere. I know it's possible to end a phone call on the Desire by pressing the power button after enabling it in settings. But when I go to Settings/Accessibility I get a pop-up message saying, 'No accessibility related application found. You can download a screen reader for your device from Android Market. Click OK to install the screen reader.'If I press 'Cancel' I'm in the accessibility settings with a single grayed-out 'Accessibility' option. But no other options are available.

I'm thinking of getting the HTC desire when it releases in the US and I know it has already in Europe. I'm one of those people that would use the phone for internet, texting, probably not emailing.I'm interesting in what you guys' batter life is.Like if you had 3g off and all those battery saving tips.Like manual switching 3g on when needed etc.Since I want an accurate time to go by because I'm going to do the exact thing when I get mine.Using battery saving tips for max.As well if any hardcore power saving iphone users can post their times as well since I can't find anything on the web relating to that.

There's something wrong with my Desire. Sometimes the multi touch doesn't work at all. In that case, I have to reboot the phone. I don't know why. This thing happened 4 times today. And another problem is turning on the Desire. Sometimes the phone vibrates shortly for 5-6 times and cannot turn on unless I take out the battery and re-insert it. What's wrong with the phone?

I got my desire last week and everything was good until last night when i changed my googlemail address to gmail. I looked across the forum and found that the best thing to do was reset the phone. I did this and all was perfect once more until I went to go to college and was listening to music but couldn't change tracks or pause using the hands-free kit. I have no idea how to get it working again and don't know if the reset had anything to do with it stopping working. All I know is it worked perfectly the other day.
