HTC Incredible :: Video In Portrait Transferred To Computer Sideways
May 10, 2010
I took a video with my phone today in portrait mode. I transferred the video to my computer and it's sideways. I can't figure out how to switch it to make the phone take videos in portrait. Does this phone really only take videos in landscape?

I took some videos on SGII. They show up sideways on pc in mp4 format. It looks like I can change the orientation in Windows Movie maker, but when I try to save it as mp4 - it says "invalid format". It has it's own format to save it in and doesn't appear to have any other options.

I shot a video a few days ago on my new Evo phone. I was holding the phone vertically. It never occurred to me that I was supposed to hold it horizontally. What ended up happening is that when I put the memory card from my phone into the computer, it's showing the video sideways. I need to flip it 90 degrees before I send it out or post it anywhere. I tried to send it to Windows Movie Maker but as it's a 3gp format, it won't take it. I tried searching through my Quicktime (not Quicktime pro) and there's nothing I can find to flip it 90 degrees. After a lot of searching, I found a bunch of sites that tell me to convert the video to a format that Windows Movie Maker accepts and then flip it the 90 degrees in WMM. I'm a little over my head at this point. I don't know how to convert this file and I don't want to download programs that won't work. Anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it?

I'm not sure if there is a thread for this or not. I couldn't find one. After I transfer photos/videos via USB to my desktop, I notice when I play the video files that there is no audio. Only the video.

I need to know if there is a way for watching .WMV videos on the HTC Hero.
I already know that it will play MPEG-4 videos without a problem (you can use the RealPlayer Video Downloader to download HQ/HD videos from places like Youtube and it automatically saves them to MPEG-4 format).
However, I want to transfer some files like music videos onto my HTC Hero and having tried several times, using the RealPlayer Converter, to convert the .mpg files to .wmv, I can't watch them on the Hero.
However, I recently looked at one of the threads (I think on a different forum) and he said that he could watch videos in WMV format using 750kbps on resolution 480x320. But RealPlayer only allows for 768kbps and resolution as 480p HD as the nearest possible (which was the setting I ordinarily chose).
The other strange thing is that when I go onto the Albums part of the phone to see if I can view any videos, it shows a thumbnail image of the music video (a preview image of the video) and when I play it, I can hear the music, but the video itself fails to appear.

I am trying to develop an android application which will be able to record a video and send it in real time to a remote computer. The computer then will play it live. I have managed to establish a connection between the android and the computer, and to record a video on the android phone. My problem is, how will I be able to send this video to the computer? Does anyone have an idea?

When I record video by MediaRecorder, it always records in landscape mode, regardless of real device orientation. How to force MediaRecorder/Camera use real orientation ?

there are those of us, who due to whatever reason (helmet cams, preference for posture, etc) want to record videos in portrait mode.
What happens (on my sgs2) is that the video records just fine in whatever resolution I pick... but it records it 90 degrees rotated to the right.
The solution that is usually offered is that "you can rotate it after!" yes... but then you have to CROP part of the image and lower the resolution. 1920 x 1080 recordings end up having to be cropped so that half of the view is cut out , or even more if you are maintaining a real aspect ratio.
The questions about "why not just hold it sideways", are just as pointless as the statement by steve jobs telling iphone4 users that they were holding their phones wrong.
is this something that can be remedied ? or has google decided that people should only record videos when their phones are in landscape mode?
i understand that we cant see landscape resolution in portrait mode; but can't we just have a viewport into the camera, but record in properly oriented landscape mode? so that playback on a computer will show the full resolution, even though we will only see part of it on the phone..

I'm somewhat new to Android. I just bought my first Android phone (the Evo) Saturday, I'm having one bit of trouble. I just recorded some footage of our family reunion for my cousin, and really want to get it off of my phone. So I decide to put it in my computer. However, when I put the video on my desktop, the video has no sound. How do I fix this problem?

I recently purchased a Motorola Droid and I have to say that, while I am not easily impressed by anything, I am quite impressed with it. It is my first Android-based phone, so I am still learning the ropes. My question is this: When I take a video with my Droid, how do I transfer it to my computer? I tried emailing the video, but no attachments went thru. Is there a way to export it via USB, etc.? I know they can be sent straight to youtube if there is wifi available, but I want to send it to the computer for viewing, forwarding, burning to dvd, etc. Any advice anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not entirely sure this is even possible, but I am attempting to figure out if it is possible to watch live feeds from the droid to a computer. I ask because I im a dallas cowboys fan that lives in New York so most games aren't broadcast. The nfl mobile app lets me watch live feeds and games, but as you can imagine the screen is only so big. I'd like to watch the video on my computer screen. Is this possible or should I just look for some website that would ultimately do the same thing?

The problem I have is in the implementation of a video streaming application. What I need to do is to stream live what I record with the androids' camera, to a remote computer. I managed to establish a connection between the mobile phone and the computer, but I do not know how to send the video.I searched through forums, and I found out that in order to send a streaming video you have you use the ParcelFileDescriptor. So I created an instance of MediaRecorder with encoding H263 and .mp4 file format, I created a Socket and then I created a new ParcelFileDescriptor connecting it with the socket. If that is correct then the android application that I created is functional. What I don't know now is what to do at the side of the computer in order to receive and view the streaming video. I tried using JMF, but it doesn't support .mp4 video files. What do you suggest me to do? Or where to look in order to find a solution?

Is there anyway I can stream camera video from android online outside of wifi routher so I can see video from remote computer? There are copule of solutions but those app only stream video from android to pc over the same wifi routher. Good program for that is Ip webcam.
And you can also send that video to another android device with tinyCam Monitor. But I want to stream it online so it could be accesed by remote computer! One solution is with IP Camera Adapter so you could use video from android as your webcam in skype.
But this is too complicated because you must have your computer turned on, and skype opened. Some other solutions have same problem because you must have your computer on.
I found one really difficult solution with port forwarding and you have to open host on .no-ip.biz...So, can it be done only from android phone with one or two programs.

I didn't really pay attention, but since i have been on these forums I noticed when I type a post my keyboard lags. It isn't too bad while in portrait mode but when I'm in landscape my keyboard lags a LOT. I havent noticed it on any other sites. It is at its absolute worst when posting in landscape on this forum.

ne0fhyk has created an app (root required) that will allow you to choose which keyboard you want to use in each orientation. i've always felt the stock keyboard was far superior in landscape mode, while swype was ideal for portrait.
