HTC Incredible :: "Turning On" / Network Connection Error
Apr 29, 2010
So I had a terrible time activating this phone. But the problem now is that under the settings<wireless & networks the mobile network part says "turning on" but it's greyed out, and has a green check mark by it. It flashes something real brief, and goes back to the same. Anyone know what I can do?

I wonder if anybody has ran into the issue where a running emulator would lose network connection all at a sudden for no obvious reason. And I am sure the computer running the JVM is still online.Restarting the emulator seems to fix the issue but it's been a major PITA for me as it interrupts the work flow.I am using 2.1 SDK 7.

My friend was using my phone and he stopped some running services, since then my phone's wi-fi and GPRS not working, I have already tried restoring it to factory reset , but it doesn't work even after restoring phone to factory settings. Phone just keeps on searching wi fi network and in GPRS mode it shows network connection error.

I am having an issue with my HTC Droid Incredible. When going to Settings>Wireless and networks and looking under Mobile Network, it says "Turning on." However, it stays in that mode and never "turns on."Things I have tried
1. Restart the phone/taking the battery out
2. Reset the phone to factory settings by going to Privacy in Settings
3. Contact Verizon and have them remove and re-add the data plan
I have noticed that, when I call *228, and try to activate the phone, it says an error occurred and it could not activate the phone. I can make phone calls from the phone, but cannot do anything that requires a data plan, meaning that it is an issue with that. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this issue?

Dinc will not obtain IP....I just updated to 2.2 and it worked fine .....then i made changes to my router......turned all the security OFF.....
Does the Dinc hold old info on a current connection? if so can i delete a connection and start fresh....more than just "forget"? Should I name my Routers SSID?

I seem to be seeing an issue with the data network access on the EVO. When it happens none of my applications get internet aceess and my mobile network status says "turning on". The only way I've found to fix it is to pull the battery. Any one else seeing this? If so is there a better fix than pulling the battery?

I picked up my new incredible last week (Awesome!). It's been working great. However, within the last day, I've been getting an error message which reads "Connection Failed: This application requires network access. Enable mobile network or Wi-Fi to download data." I've gotten this message when initiating the browser, going into email, etc. Of course, I can't access anything via the web.
When I go to settings, mobile network is checked off, although it does say "turning on..."

When trying to make a phone call nothing happens for about a minute then a message pops up saying network busy try again later. It happens overtime I am in this area of about 90 miles!
I have full 3g bars.
Under -80 db signal
Can receive phone calls fine.
Can use the internet fine.
Tried reboot.
Tried prl update.
Tried factory reset.
Tried downgrading to stock 2.1
Had Verizon send me a new phone. fixed the issue for about a week then came back.
Verizon has not heard of this problem.
Other Verizon people even with an incredible doesn't have this problem.
Seems to be getting worse. It used to only happen in the Toledo Ohio area. Now it doesn't work for most of the Ohio area.

I have been looking at the ConnectivityManager class documented at http://developer.android.com/reference/android/net/ConnectivityManage... .
I would like to know if an Android application can open a network connection (socket) on a specified network interface [on a device supporting multiple network interface types WiFi, Cellular, WiMax etc] ? I am looking for the capability for an application to open a socket on a given type of network for example over WiFi network or over 3G Cellular Data network.
If this is possible in Android, how would I code this requirement within the API Framework ? The ConnectivityManager enables an application to learn about available network connections and currently categorises them as either TYPE_WIFI or TYPE_MOBILE.
There is a member function in the ConnectivityManager class called requestRouteToHost(int,int) [url] which "Ensure that a network route exists to deliver traffic to the specified host via the specified network interface. An attempt to add a route that already exists is ignored, but treated as successful." Sounds like this would install an IP routing table entry to reach a given host via a specified network interface type (WiFi or Mobile). After calling this would it be sufficient for an application to open a socket and connect to the desired destination address ?
Or perhaps the application needs to bind() a socket to a local address of a network interface of the desired type (WiFi or Mobile) Or by setting a socket-level socket option of SO_DONTROUTE ?

When I trun my phone on, the scene changes from the scene I had chosen (the waving grass) to "current (unsaved)".If I change it to the one I prefer (saved with my name) I am asked to "save or cancel" the incorrect one.I click cancel, and all is well.But why does it change and how do I keep the scene selected that I want?I just want it to stick on the scene that I have chosen.

Even though I have "Background data" and "always on mobile data" enabled, my data connection keeps dropping. The "3G" will dim itself after a period of inactivity even with having three or more bars of signal strength. For most applications this is not a issue but it reeks havoc on Google Talk (have "automatically sign in enabled) and sometimes the Android Market.My phone has been doing this for a while. I just updated to Fresh 3.2 and installed the latest radios. Still having the same problem. What can I do to fix this? Has anyone else had this problem before.

I have a HTC Hero for the last few weeks and really happy with it. I friend recently got the Lg Eve and was looking at it. She wanted to turn off the Wireless Network to cut down on when it accesses the 3G network, but unlike the Hero, I wasn't able to find the Mobile Network setting under Wireless Controls.We took it back to the Rogers store to ask if he sorta blew it off saying she didn't need to turn it off and help her installed a counter to track her data usage.So is there a way to turn it off when it's not in use?

Every once in a while I notice that there is no indication for 3G or 1x, not that I don't have reception, it just isn't turned on for some reason. It will fix itself if I reboot my phone, or turn it to airplane mode and then back to normal. Does anyone else experience this? Honestly it isn't annoying enough to replace my phone, just weird.

I recently bought an Eris from Craigslist. It had 2.1 on it. I recently got my number ported and activated on the eris on pageplus. Although the weird thing, and this happened before the activation. Is after i used the wifi widget and the 3g turned off the mobile network wont turn on. I tried using the widget toggle as well as in the menu. Its just always stuck as " Turning On".Do i have to do anything to fix this? I thought i saw a thread about this the other night but now i cant find it. I also did a hard reset thinking that would fix the problem before i did OTA Activation.

I've just discovered there is a widget for turning mobile network on and off which is fantastic as I've been looking for one in the market, cos I'm sick of doing it the long winded way. The only thing is, it doesn't work..... If you long press the home screen its under htc widgets, then settings. Has anyone else got one and does it work for them?

Last night my phone decided it wanted to be annoying and started turning itself on and off on its own. This has caused me to lose my network signal.
So far, I have turned the phone off (had it powered down all night while I slept).
Removed the sim card.
Used the recovery options to clear the cache.
Simulated a battery pull.
Thus far, nothing has worked.

Wifi won't turn on. I get a few seconds of "Turning on..." and always ends with "Error".
INFO:
Alcatel OT-908 (T-Mobile Move)
SIM locked on T-Mobile network
Firmware version: 2.2.2[code]....
I TRIED SO FAR:
1) rebooting
2) live battery pull
3) factory reset
4) *#*#526#*#* (nothing happens)
5) freeing ram and internal memory
6) entering static ip settings
7) changing wpa_supplicant
Nothing worked. I'm still getting Error on turning on.
I looked at [*#*#4636#*#* > Wifi information > Wifi Status ] and it says "Supplicant state: UNINITIALIZED". Could it be that it's something wrong with this wpa_supplicant thing?

- AnyCut application to reset Radio
- Updated radio to 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26-signed

I want to check that the network connection is alive on the phone from program but when i try to run this code
Code:
private boolean isOnline() {
ConnectivityManager cm = (ConnectivityManager) getSystemService(Context.CONNECTIVITY_SERVICE);
NetworkInfo netInfo = cm.getActiveNetworkInfo();
if (netInfo != null && netInfo.isConnectedOrConnecting()) {
return true;
}
return false;
}
I get the message "Sorry 'Appname' is stopped unexpectedly. Try again".I might have to search the solution elsewhere, i added permissions for network, run the application and got the same error but when i tried to start it from the menu it said application not installed.

Recently I've started facing a problem on my Desire. Sometimes it acts like the network is down, and the signal bar shows a cross. At that time when I tried another sim card, the network was working fine. Then after a while my phone starts showing network with the original sim. But it won't connect to the internet. It simply won't connect, although I am toggling the mobile data connection tick mark.
Right now the network has gone again, and I'm trying to get connected to it through either Automatic registration or manually selecting from the list of network providers. But I get the message "unable to connect to this network at this time"...

I am developing an Android application and I would like to setup a tcp/ip type of connection between two Android phones using the 3G/Edge network. My test version will establish a connection if I have both phones on a lan using wifi but when I use T-Mobile's network a connection is not established. Could this issue be a port or ip address?

To android 4 months ago and running an Unrooted Desire Android 2.2 on O2 (OTA update to froyo went no problem) No Taskiller
Must say I'm loving android, for the sheer ability to customise it, altough not brave enough to root yet!
Installed folder organiser and launcher pro plus cos I want to change icons and names of folders etc.
My problem is when I switch from sense to laucher pro, i lose my data connection widget/ shortcut and cant get it back. On my sense screen I have the power control widget, which gives me the wifi connection toggle and also a mobile web toggle. I want a mobile web toggle that works with launcher pro.
Downloaded the widgets pack from curvefish, but the APN on/off does nothing at all.
