HTC Incredible :: Trying To Use Nandroid To Make A Restore Point
Aug 31, 2010
So I just downloaded unprovoked and used it to root my phone. It was successful and now I'm trying to use nandroid to make a restore point. The problem is, nandroid is not in my clockwork recovery menu like it was on my last phone. I do have root access though. What am I doing wrong?

So I just tried to go back to a previous nandroid backup I had on my phone, specifically CyanogenTazz because I didn't like the current ROM I was on... So I wiped my dalvik cache and did a factory reset wipe and then went to restore and it gave me this error "error : run 'nandroid-mobile.sh restore' via adb!" What is the exact command in command prompt to do that? And what caused this error?

I am a droid user, but my wife has an eris and I am trying to get her phone from one of the 2.1 leaks to the official 2.1 OTA with root.I downloaded a "PlainJane" ROM from XDA which seems to be the 2.1OTA with an OC kernel, which sounded like exactly what I needed. So, I performed a nandroid backup of her phone as it is and then I went into the nandroid restore menu to see what my options were with the Amon recovery image. Turns out there was no "advanced" nandroid restore option like we have on Clockwork and SPRecovery on the Droid, so my original plan of wiping, installing the new ROM, and then restoring data was dashed. So, I attempted to just flash the new ROM on top of the 2.1 leak. This resulted in tons of FC's on boot up. I then rebooted the phone, did a full wipe, then installed the ROM. It then booted up just fine, but without any of her data of course.
That is no good though as I promised her I wouldnt lose her data (again, LOL). So, I then wiped again and proceeded to restore the nandroid backup I did before I started and now the phone is right back to where it was before all of this.OK, having said all of that, I really want to just wipe, install the ROM, then restore the data on top. Is that not possible on the Eris? Is there a different recovery image I should be using that will allow me to do this? I do it on my droid all the time and it makes swapping ROM's a breeze.

I was rooted fine with unrevoked forever. I wanted to try a ROM than required me to install the newest version of hboot so I did that. Well I didn't like that ROM so I tried to flash a nandroid restore but it didn't take. So I reinstalled the pc36img that I used when I rooted my phone. Then I rebooted my phone. Now it booted like its not rooted! I don't have superuser app and when I try to reboot into recovery I get a red triangle over a phone.
When I boot into hboot it says I have s-off but I have no idea how to get my phone back to the way it was. Under system info it says I have firmware version 2.1-update1 but I try to look for a froyo update and it says there are none available. I was going to just unroot with the s-on tool but that requires going into recovery which I can't do. What do I do toget my root back!

When you have booted into RECOVERY MODE, and you are either trying to make a Nandroid backup or restore, and you get a "Run nandroid-mobile.sh via adb!" error, then try these things: SD Card - it could be too full to write a recovery.Try deleting some things and try again. "Nandroid folder" inside your SD card -If you have renamed some of your backups, then this could also be an issue.Change the names back to what they were and try again. If anyone else has other experiences please feel free to add them here so others will have something to look at when in need.

I have to return my Hero back to Sprint for dust again, so I was wondering if I could save the nandroid folder from the SD card, root the new phone, put the old nandroid folder on the new phone, and do a nandroid restore? Is this possible or am I way off?

Prior to upgrading to 4.2.1, I made a NANDROID backup of my Nexus 7 (4.1.2) using mskip's toolkit. The restoration method copies the backup folder to the device (/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/), then boots it into custom recovery. At first I was using TWRP 2, but I think I need to be using CWM, so I flashed CWM Touch. I actually went through the motions again of copying the backup over to the Nexus 7, but CWM Touch doesn't see the backup folder. It returns two messages when attempting to Restore:
1. Couldn't open directory
2. No files found
The folder containing the NANDROID backup and all parent folders are readable/writable/NOT Hidden, according to ES File Explorer, but I wonder about ownership.I'm rooted with SuperSU 0.99.
how to make CWM Touch, TWRP 2 or some manual method recognize and restore a NANDROID backup? I know I could just flash stock 4.1.2 and start from scratch (I have apps + data backed up), and if it comes to it.

I did a Nandroid backup (system, data, etc. using CWM) and a Titanium backup (user apps), wiped my phone, and installed a new ROM.
Q: Does a Nandroid backup include the /ProgramData/Language/ folder?
I'm trying to restore files I 'hid' using the Hide It Pro app. A developer blog post mentions that this folder is the 'vault location'. As a result, I'd like to find this folder and restore it if possible.
A Titanium Backup restore of the Hide It Pro app+data didn't of course work due to this. I'd like to avoid restoring everything from the Nandroid backup if possible and just restore the individual folder. I have of course tried looking through the folders and files to find it, to no avail.

I own the g2 vs980. I am running malladus. I had a nandroid backup of cleanrom. In an effort to free up space late last night I opened cwm app and deleted my backup if clean rom. I would like to recover it. I know of tools like diskdigger apk, but I don't know if it will recognize the format since (I believe) inside the backup file folder there are many files that comprise the nandroid backup. I did not do any factory resets since the delete. I know the files should still be there. I have done very little on the phone so the data should still be intact... for now. Xoom WiFi

I had upgraded my Galaxy Gio from stock rom to custom rom (CM 7.2 based), and now I want to restore just a few apps + data (for e.g. Memo) and Contacts (from stock rom) from my Nandroid backup, so I want it should be on the current custom rom.
How far I tried to do so, I could'nt get it done. I tried with NANDROID MANAGER, I installed it and tried to restore some apps + their data, (the apps was in previous rom in System/Apps so Nandroid Manager automatically wanted to install it in system/apps), ok, the program showed as it's installed with no broblems, BUT after reboot as it required, NOTHING HAPPENED, so I looked in system/apps and data/data with root explorer, those apps & data were there, but it was not installed.....
I also tried to restore the Contacts from Nandroid (Contacts Storage), and I ended up with erasing all contacts I had currently on the phone (anyway that wasn't a problem, cause i had an regular backup of it).
So I would like to understand what the problem is, and how is it possible to have my previous memos and contacts restored to my current rom?

I am under the impression that Nandroid backup & restore completely wipes the system data and overwrites with a saved image of the Android OS with whatever was on the phone at the time of backup. I created a backup to my SD Card, installed an app (ROM Manager)--couldn't get it to work so I uninstalled it. I then did a restore on my previously saved backup and right after booting up, I see a notification, open it, and catch ROM Manager downloading again to, eventually, install itself. How does the market, or my phone, know that this app was previously installed? Is it saved to my Google account somewhere? Is the data stored on my SD Card? My Nandroid backup that was created without the app being installed shouldn't have this information still on it should it?

Having md5 mismatch error while restoring nandroid backups. This error comes usually due to renaming the nandroid backup folders.
1. Use a program editor like notepad++ to open the nandroid.md5 file and remove all lines except the first line which would have some hex values follwed by boot.img.
2. run the following commands in terminal emulator of ur android:
#cd /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/(name of backup)
#rm nandroid.md5
#md5sum *img > nandroid.md5

I'm having the documented problem of no data connection, always on roaming, after flashing to CM 10.1. My prior rom was CleanRom 5.1, and I have several nandroid backups from various roms over the last few months. GS3 (d2vzw) with root and unlocked bootloader.
So the question is... What's the best way to restore IMEI info and get mobile data back?
There are a couple of steps I'm not sure of:
Option 1: Flash a nandroid recovery, backup IMEI using terminal emulator, and then crack-flash away
1. If I restore my phone to a previous backup, is the correct IMEI information included?
2. Also having a problem getting the MD5 sum's to match. Should I flash through ADB instead of clockworkmod? Or use Odin to get back to stock and then re-root? If correct IMEI included with flash back to stock?
3. Assuming I restore a nandroid, the plan was to use "reboot nvbackup" in terminal emulator to save IMEI info.
4. Flash back to CM 10.1.
Option 2: Use IMEI Generator and NV Reader/Writer:
1. Based on this thread: [URL]
2. Problem: The link to the generator tool in the OP is broken (404). I can get the converted IMEI number from an alternative program, but don't know how to format the text file correctly to use with NV Reader/Writer. Any standard format of a dummy IMEI text file?

I noticed after doing a restore to Rubix 1.6 when I tried to access Settings they would not show nor was the Setting icon in my app drawer. Is this just a bad restore or is the Nandroid corrupted? I'm running DarkSlide v3 just fine right now just trying to figure out if my RubiX 1.6 nandroid is crap or not.

I have tried to backup my phone multiple ways and I have not had any luck. I manually rooted my phone, using the steps on this webpage:
[GUIDE] How To Root The Sprint CDMA Hero (Windows) - xda-developers
Manual Root Backup
When I tried the step 19 reboot recovery my phone just reboots to an HTC splash screen.
CLOCKWORK MOD
I also tried to use the clockwork mod market app to make a backup as see on this page
[Complete Guide] How To Fully Back Up And Restore Your Android Phone Using Nandroid Backup | Android News, Reviews, Applications, Games, Phones, Devices, Tips, Hacks, Videos, Podcasts - Android Police
I click flash clockwork mod recovery it auto senses my phone cdma htc hero. I click on the hero, and nothing happens, I never receive a successfully flashed.
PREKITCHEN
Last I tried to perform a backup using prekitchen
the diagnostic showed I am green in all areas
I click on the nandroid backup and it reboots my phone and brings up a HTC splash screen.
basically I have to pull out the battery to get phone functionality back. I have read else where that I can hold volume down and power to bring up a recovery mod (this works) but I am not sure what to do when I get there.

So my Droid's screen recently stopped working and I'm getting an exchange with Verizon. I have to send my dead phone back once I get the new one, and am concerned about the fact that it's rooted running Froyo. I'd like to restore the nandroid backup I made of stock 2.1. Can somebody give me advice on how to do this with a dead screen? Perhaps from the command line on my computer via USB, or perhaps the key strokes to do it in nandroid so I can replicate it by feel?

I have achieved rooting of my sprint hero cdma phone, but can not get to nandroid backup. i attempted to recovery reboot and it freezes at the htc screen, multiple times. i did luckily backup everything from my sd card and my apps/data before i did anything so i can get back to basics at least with root. i have formatted my sd card, and replaced it with everything that was on there directly after rooting. i can do a speedboot and see the menu to do the backup option, but i get the same results.
