I have to return my Hero back to Sprint for dust again, so I was wondering if I could save the nandroid folder from the SD card, root the new phone, put the old nandroid folder on the new phone, and do a nandroid restore? Is this possible or am I way off?

I click flash clockwork mod recovery it auto senses my phone cdma htc hero. I click on the hero, and nothing happens, I never receive a successfully flashed.

Last I tried to perform a backup using prekitchen
the diagnostic showed I am green in all areas
I click on the nandroid backup and it reboots my phone and brings up a HTC splash screen.
basically I have to pull out the battery to get phone functionality back. I have read else where that I can hold volume down and power to bring up a recovery mod (this works) but I am not sure what to do when I get there.
For some reason, and I never had this problem before, but I just tried to do a new nandroid backup and it says this: Error : Run 'nandroid-mobile.sh' via adb! What is this!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm rooting my cdma htc hero with google from sprint and one thing people say to do is nandroid. i read that you do this after rooting and before updating roms, but i have to ruu before i can root because my build number is 2.27.651.6 and has to be .5 so this will clear it off... anyway to backup device before i do this? anything other than nandroid? or a way to do it before rooting?

Also, recently (as in today). My phone has been sending messages to other people, randomly. I got a phone call from my mother but it popped up as a totally different number.
So i restored my phone to a previous nandroid backup and when i went to boot my phone, its now stuck at the boot screen.... So I rebooted it back into recovery, and tried restoring a backup i know works, but same thing again. How does this happen?!? I did change the folder names that the backups were in so I didn't get confused, for example one I named one Fresh 1.1 w/ gumbo, etc. Could this corrupt the backup and if so is there anyway for me to restore the previous folder name to fix this..?

I have to send my dead phone back once I get the new one, and am concerned about the fact that it's rooted running Froyo. I'd like to restore the nandroid backup I made of stock 2.1. Can somebody give me advice on how to do this with a dead screen? Perhaps from the command line on my computer via USB, or perhaps the key strokes to do it in nandroid so I can replicate it by feel?

Once up and running, does the Nandroid backup work on this configuration? Or must you keep your files in the Hero to get a functional backup? Now using the 1.6.2 version of RA.
I would certainly not want to sacrifice my ability to make periodic Nandriod backups of my phone.

I forgot to wipe before restoring a nandroid (DC2.08.1) last night, and subsequently have made some changes. Everything seems to be working OK. I will make a new Nandroid backup.
Is there any benefit to then wiping and restoring that new nandroid backup? Or will the backup just re-install what I have just wiped? Sorry, I don't understand what exactly is being wiped.
I keep trying these different roms but always have to nandroid restore just to get my contacts back or else they are gone...google wont sync all of them and I tried the export contact app but it didnt save but half of them So what can I do to save my contacts without the nandroid?
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I click on the nandroid backup my the process starts, then i think the phone goes to reboot during the process (I assume this is part of the process?) then I get a error icon on my phone a Triangle with a exclamation point in the middle, then I'm stuck, the phone wont reconnect to Fresh Kitchen. should I use recovery to fore reboot? help? One thought, do i have to use the USB to micro USB that comes with the phone or can I just use a standard micro USB to USB that I always use (the one that came with my digital camera)
View 20 Replies View RelatedAbout two days ago the DamageControl2.0r ROM started giving me the WiFi issues, and where I am with no EVDO or even E network. I rely on the WiFi at work and home, and wherever else I may need it. So I attempted to flash back to Fresh2.0c using the wipe/reboot and all the normal steps. Well it kept booting back to the Damage Control ROM. Someone suggested I use Nanroid backup then tried reflashing the rom. Which ended up working. Well I then decided I wanted to try the New Kitchen, because I love tinkering with this stuff, and it wouldn't flash again. I had to use Nandroid backup to go back to Fresh2.0c and have it working properly. Is there something I could be missing completely?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have already rooted my hero but I did not flash a recovery image or perform a nandroid back up mostly because I could not find clear instructions on how to do so, which caused me to have to completely wipe my phone and start over after I deleted some programs that caused my loop over and over. I know the commands I need to run in adb to flash the recovery image but I do not know where to download the recovery image or where I need to store it I also can't find anything on nandroid back could somone please explain these in detail with the steps I need to take so I don't need to start from square one again.

View 8 Replies View RelatedLet me start off by saying I did/still do have a nandroid and also a custom ROM zip on my SD. I used the ROM manager application to wipe data/cache, like I have done about 10 times this past week, and flashed a new ROM. So my phone reboots to recovery, "clockwork mod recovery", you have to use this recovery to use ROM manager, and instead of flashing the ROM, it gives me some error message. Now for anyone who isn't familiar with clockwork recovery, you can't flash a nandroid from it, you have to revert back to the stock recovery to flash a nandroid, or at least I do.
So now all I can do is reboot my hero which brings me back to stock 2.1 with no root access. Now I know what your thinking, "just flash your nandroid", but now I can't. To flash my nandroid I would have to reflash the stock recovery image through ROM manager, and now I'm stuck with the clockwork recovery image because ROM manager requires root to swap recoveries, and no ability to nandroid back to where I was before. Basically, unless there is a way to change my recovery back to stock without being rooted currently.
I am a droid user, but my wife has an eris and I am trying to get her phone from one of the 2.1 leaks to the official 2.1 OTA with root.I downloaded a "PlainJane" ROM from XDA which seems to be the 2.1OTA with an OC kernel, which sounded like exactly what I needed. So, I performed a nandroid backup of her phone as it is and then I went into the nandroid restore menu to see what my options were with the Amon recovery image. Turns out there was no "advanced" nandroid restore option like we have on Clockwork and SPRecovery on the Droid, so my original plan of wiping, installing the new ROM, and then restoring data was dashed.So, I attempted to just flash the new ROM on top of the 2.1 leak. This resulted in tons of FC's on boot up. I then rebooted the phone, did a full wipe, then installed the ROM. It then booted up just fine, but without any of her data of course.
That is no good though as I promised her I wouldnt lose her data (again, LOL). So, I then wiped again and proceeded to restore the nandroid backup I did before I started and now the phone is right back to where it was before all of this.OK, having said all of that, I really want to just wipe, install the ROM, then restore the data on top. Is that not possible on the Eris? Is there a different recovery image I should be using that will allow me to do this? I do it on my droid all the time and it makes swapping ROM's a breeze.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was rooted fine with unrevoked forever. I wanted to try a ROM than required me to install the newest version of hboot so I did that. Well I didn't like that ROM so I tried to flash a nandroid restore but it didn't take. So I reinstalled the pc36img that I used when I rooted my phone. Then I rebooted my phone. Now it booted like its not rooted! I don't have superuser app and when I try to reboot into recovery I get a red triangle over a phone.
When I boot into hboot it says I have s-off but I have no idea how to get my phone back to the way it was. Under system info it says I have firmware version 2.1-update1 but I try to look for a froyo update and it says there are none available. I was going to just unroot with the s-on tool but that requires going into recovery which I can't do. What do I do toget my root back!
When you have booted into RECOVERY MODE, and you are either trying to make a Nandroid backup or restore, and you get a "Run nandroid-mobile.sh via adb!" error, then try these things: SD Card - it could be too full to write a recovery.Try deleting some things and try again. "Nandroid folder" inside your SD card -If you have renamed some of your backups, then this could also be an issue.Change the names back to what they were and try again.If anyone else has other experiences please feel free to add them here so others will have something to look at when in need.
