Anyone know of a widget that will turn your screen on when you remove it from a magnetic holster? And turn it off when you holster it? Hitting the power button is a bit awkward.My BB used to do that. Just a thought.

I am looking for a widget that will put the screen to sleep like the power button does, but a widget on the screen. I know it sounds stupid, but when the phone is in the cradle in my car, it would be much easier to tap a widget on the screen to turn screen off than push down on the power button. I have a lock program that allows me to use the trackpad to wake the screen up, but have not found one to put the inc to sleep.

I can even place other widgets or icons "behind" it - likes its not even there. Right now, it is sitting on top of my Facebook widget and covers the top part of the box - the "whats on your mind" text entry part. How can I get rid of it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am designing a home screen widget. I ran this widget on a HTC Hero device, which has a screen of 320 pixels * 480 pixels with mdpi. It ran perfect on HTC Hero. The widget takes 3 cells * 2 cells space, i.e. 240 pixels * 200 pixels.Then I ran this widget on a Nexus One device, which has a screen of 480 pixels * 800 pixels, mdpi. Since Nexus One also is mdpi, so I though 240dip is equivalent to 240 pixels on Nexus One and 200dip is equivalent to 200 pixels on Nexus One, so the widget will not take 3 cells * 2 cells space on Nexus One device. To my surprise, when running on Nexus One device, the widget take exact 3 cells * 2 cells, about 360 pixels * 300 pixels, on Nexus One device.I am confused. The layout xml above specifies 240dip in width and 200dip in height for the widget, but why did it take 360 pixels * 300 pixels on Nexus One Device? What am I missing?
View 2 Replies View RelatedFrom Android widget screen guidelines,we know that, home screen has 4*4 cells, and in portrait orientation, each cell is 80 pixels wide by 100 pixels tall. I think these are for baseline HVGA screen. How about for large screens and hdpi screens, do they still have 4*4 cells for widget and each cell in portrait orientation is still 80 pixels * 100 pixels?

View 11 Replies View RelatedThis widget was the first glimpse to me of the awesomeness of ANDROID.Within the first couple weeks of having my droid, I began getting annoyed with the Lock Screen while I browsing the web (probably sponging up info from this forum).I then thought, " well,I wonder if there is any way to modify this.. Some app that would disable the lock screen." Low and behold, someone else was already tackling this problem! I found ScreenModeWidget suggested somewhere on the net and searched for it in the market.It wasn't pretty but it did it's job and I loved it. The only problem with it was that the volume and the camera buttons would involuntarily turn the screen on.
This almost made it useless. Especially if you wanted to throw your droid in your pocket.Well it seems like Sam finally figured it all out and has released Screen Mode Widget Lite and Screen Mode Widget Pro. I went straight for PRO to show this dev some love so I'm not sure how different the lite version is (I believe it just has an ad one the setup screen). But I can tell you that the PRO is flawless on my Droid.It has 3 different modes: Lock Mode operates your phone like normal Unlock Mode allows your screen to come back on without swiping and Screen Stay will keep your screen on continuously. He added protection for the volume and camera buttons (clutch!) and it has a very handy and simple widget to toggle between modes.Again, to me this is a must have app. It is something I have been looking for since I got my Droid and I am not the only one... I think it took quite some time for the dev to get it right so I would encourage people to donate, it's only like 1 buck! Hope this helps some people
I'm writing a customized view similar to Grid which will be used to hold a large amount of images. I'm using ImageButton to display the images, and I only want to load images onto the buttons once they are on the screen (and just display a static background image when they are not). The reason for it is that I'm fetching images from some back-end service and I only want to fetch them when the buttons are on the screen.To do that, I'd like to know if the widget is on the screen. Is it possible to detect if a widget like button is on/off screen? If not, any suggestions on how to achieve what I'm trying to do?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have used blackberries forf the past 6 years and I really miss the ability to just type in a number right away or even just type part of someones name to make a call. Having to open the phone app, then go to contacts, then either scroll through the list or press search and THEN type a name is just PAINFUL. We're talking minimum 4 actions to accomplish what I used to be able to do at any time immediately. It seems to me that a keyboard widget on my home screen would be able to address this issue.
View 10 Replies View RelatedJust wondering if anyone else is experiencing a problem with the full screen weather widget where when you scroll to it it says "Loading Data" then goes completely blank and then cant do anything with it. Removing the widget and re-adding makes it work again a reboot also brings it back to life for a couple of seconds but then goes blank. Clicking on the weather picture on the clock still brings up the details weather screen.

I am using No lock for the ability to use the touchpad to turn on but I hate using the power button to turn it off and leaving the screen on, even for 30 seconds, has to be draining the battery. (I am constantly on/off/on/off the phone throughout the day.)
I would like something I can put on the home screen that when touched, puts the phone to sleep. This will help save my power button in the long run as well. Ive searched and cant find anything.

View 26 Replies View RelatedHI took a look at the home screen widget design recently and I tried to deploy a simple widget with 4x1 portrait background provided in Widget.I tried it in HVGA emulator (screen size 320x480 or something) and on Nexus One (screen size 480x800) and the widget seems to be the same size with respect to other UI elements (search widget etc) on both devices. How is that possible when one screen is 320px wide and the other one is 480px? Is the graphics in png format being automatically resized somehow based on screen width? If so, is it better to create the home screen widget graphics to make it perfectly fit to HVGA screen with 320px or is it better to create the graphics to fit the largest screen width possible so it would shrink itself on smaller screens (based on assumption shrinking an image is always better than magnifying it)?
