HTC Incredible :: Port Phone Number When Changing From Alltel To Verizon?
Apr 16, 2010
I am dumping Alltel (I live in MT where Verizon and Alltel are separate) the day the Incredible is available out here. My question deals with the process I need to go through to keep my current phone number (I've had it for 7 years and use it for business). What exactly do I need to do? Do I need to cancel my Alltel contract first? Note: this will mean paying the ETF fee associated with my Alltel contract since I am over a year away from my 2 year contract running out. If anyone can shed a light on what I need to do to keep my phone number when changing providers like this.

I'm selling my house, and my old phone number (which is still active), is on the advertisment signs and MLS. So, I'm going to keep paying my bill month to month for that account until I sell the house.
However, I'd rather not carry around 2 different phones. I did not port my number to my new service as my old number was not "local" to where I live now.
So, I have service with T-mobile and now Verizon with two different numbers. Can I set-up something where anyone who calls my T-mobile number, will ring through to my my Verizon phone/number?

Hey guys I am a former Alltel customer who was transferred to Verizon. My current plan is awesome and includes the Connect Pack 1 (unlimited data) for $9.99. I am currently using an Alltel HTC Touch Pro and cannot wait for the Incredible. Does anyone know if there is a way to keep my Alltel Connect Pack 1 when I get the Incredible? I would REALLY hate to start paying an extra $20 a month for Verizons data plan and would love your ideas to avoid it.

Can't Port Number within the same carrier. Situation: I've been with Sprint since 1997. Long story short, I have a plan I don't want to give up: PCS Free & Clear Plan
$27.00 per month
700 Anytime Minutes
1000 SMS Text Messages
Unlimited Night & Weekend Minutes* (Starting at 7 p.m.)
Free Roaming
Free Mobile-to-Mobile
See blog post here:
Bourne to Blog: Negotiating with your Mobile Phone Carrier. I wanted to upgrade to an Android phone, but this would require a "data plan". Some time ago, I was told that since I wanted to keep my plan, I could add unlimited data for an additional $30/month and keep the plan. However, about a month ago, I emailed customer service wanting to do this with the Android phone. They told me can't do this with the Android phone, you'll have to switch to data plan (essentially losing my plan).
So, here's what I did: My dad got me an Android on his "Family Plan" along with my step-mom and step-sister. To add me onto his plan is just an additional $20 per month. So, this made the most economical sense (since I wasn't about to give up my old phone and plan).

I do not yet have the incredible but am considering it. I have never had a phone like this, I have had my env2 for two years. I never liked using the keyboard when you open it, I am so much faster doing it on the front screen with itap on the numbers. Does the droid have a setting like this where you can change it from a keyboard to a number pad and text that way? Help would be appreciated, I am a big texter and it will be a big factor.

I've had a Droid X2 for about a year. My wife decided that she wanted to try a smart phone and liked my X2. So, I got a Galaxy Note II for myself and gave her the X2. On my Note II, Verizon assigned the phone number I had previously on my X2. Then, they assigned the phone number my wife had been using on her previous "dumb phone" to the X2. I didn't do a factory reset on the X2...we just assigned the new number. Well, everything's working fine except for one thing. Somehow, the X2 seems to know that it previously had the other phone number and if I call her or text her from my Note II, the call or text shows as coming from a contact called "Me" instead of my name. I've searched everywhere trying to get rid of "Me" but no luck.

I've experienced two problems with Google Voice that are causing me to get charged minutes I wouldn't usually get charged. If I can't solve them, I'll have to go back to using my Verizon number. First, let me say that I'm using a new Google Voice number that isn't Verizon cell phone number or any other preexisting number. Second, my girlfriend is on my family plan, but she doesn't have GV yet. We're using the 700-minute plan, so we don't have a friends circle.
Problem 1: When I call my girlfriend's Verizon wireless phone using the GV on my Verizon phone, I get charged, and when she calls my GV number on my Verizon Wireless phone from her Verizon wireless phone, she gets charged. We don't cash in on our free in-network calling. I know, this should have been obvious, but it just never occurred to me until after I looked at the bill. I'd be able to work with that, though, and just select "Call without using Google Voice" or whatever when calling her if it weren't for the second problem. When people call my Google Voice number, I get charged when I don't answer. Usually, it's just a one-minute charge, but sometimes it's two or three minutes (don't know why). With anything less than an unlimited plan, minutes count. Not good.

As a prospective buyer of an EVO and current ATT customer I was thinking of setting up a new account with Sprint (new #), and if I like the EVO port to Sprint. Would they port my existing number and cancel the new number they would give me when I set up the account?

What happened to the Incredible marketing I think I've seen like one boring commercial which does not even show the phone and one or two radio ads, that's it? when you have the best phone out in the market shouldn't they be marketing it? The Motorola is still be marketed as the best phone in all the radio ads and commercials they have. Its so annoying I'd like to see the incredible being marketed everywhere.

I liked how on my LG Dare that I could drag icons onto the home screen and place them how I want (not locked to a grid). Not only could I arrange them however I wanted, I could also place as many as I could fit (almost). Is there a widget or app that allows me to place a "box" on the home screen to toss apps into. Right now I've found 'More Icons widget" but that only allows me to place 4 icons into the spot of 1, which makes them very tiny and arranges them in a square. Anything else out there?

I am trying to set up multiple Android development environments on single Linux Debian machine. Everything works fine for one user. But whenever second user on the same machine tries to launch Eclipse (with ADT) there is an error displayed, that 8700 port is being used. Therefore, the second user is unable to debug. I have researched this issue myself and tried following solutions, but I am yet unsuccessful: 1) I have changed the DDMS port in Eclipse, for the second user to 8740 (Window -> Preferences -> Android -> DDMS -> Base local debugger port). No use: Eclipse still opens 8700 port for listening (showed by netstat and strace). 2) I have run the DDMS before running Eclipse, changed the port in it to be 8740 (File -> Preferences -> Debugger -> Port of selected VM). Not handy to have DDMS running outside Eclipse, Eclipse still opens 8700 port for listening. 3) Tried looking in the source code of ADT, found the reference where the 8700 port is passed and opened, it looks ok though and leaves me without a clue. 4) I have found several similar threads, but none of them helped my case (piled below for reference): 4.1) http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa...

Would ANYONE have the slightest idea why I would not be able to receive MMS from former Alltel users still using Alltel phones? I get them from my friends on Verizon, T-Mobile, whatever.. My mom, my brother, and my other friend all use phones that have Alltel branding...I've tried multiple times to send MMS to my phone from theirs, to no avail. They receive my MMS, but I don't receive theirs... I remember being able to back when I first got my new phone line on Verizon. I used to have an old Alltel number, and a Samsung Delve and I received MMS just fine. When I got my Storm I received MMS from everyone, for about 2 weeks, and then it just stopped. SO to reiterate, I don't get MMS messages from Alltel phone users, but from everyone else.

Does anyone know a way to call a phone number that is in a calendar entry on the Incredible? This is a feature I used 10 times a day on my blackberry and I can't believe there wouldn't be some way to do it on the incredible. I am a sales rep and when I set up an appointment I put the name of the office and then I type the phone number right next to the name. When I opened the entry on my bb I could then click on the number to initiate a call. The incredible doesn't seem to recognize the phone number as anything different than text..

One little thing I miss on my Blackberry was that I had it set to vibrate once for Social Network notifications, twice for an email and three times for an SMS. That way I knew how important it might be and whether to take it out of my pocket. My T-Mobile G2/HTC Hero (1.5) doesn't seem to have the option to change the default "vibrate twice". Is there any way of changing it? Or an app that might do it?

I've got a Samsung Droid Charge, which I've rooted. I had used it for about 3 months with minimal issues. Yesterday I noticed my phone was stuck in airplane mode, and no amount of phone codes, setting tweaks, and soft resets would get it out. I backed up everything with Titanium and did a factory reset. This gave me my signal back, and I started the process of restoring everything via Titanium. After the restore completed, I was prompted to add my PIN for my Exchange account, which I did. I then soft reset my phone...
When the phone rebooted, I was in airplane mode again, and the PIN unlock screen was blocking entry to my phone. I enter in the PIN I had set a few minutes previously...and the phone rejects it. I try it a couple of times just to be sure, and no dice. I tried what I thought were defaults, like 1111 or 0000 or 1234...nothing. After my attempts ran out, the phone hard reset itself again.
Just to see if I wasn't crazy, I tried the whole process again and got the exact same result.
Why is my PIN being modified without my knowing, and what is it being modified to? Additionally, why do I get stuck in airplane mode after restoring my Titanium backup? I'd like to be able to use my phone without worrying about the need to wipe it after a soft reset...

I have my office voicemail as a contact but to enter it, I need a long pause (while it rings) and then several more digits to enter my system. The 'P' represents a pause. That is how it worked on my older LG phone.I needed 4 of them while the phone was ringing.Once the pauses ended (and the call was connected), it would enter the rest of the numbers to enter my voicemail system. When I send that number on this phone, it adds '011' to the beginning and the call is lost. Not sure why it does it but there has to be another way to add pauses.

I signed up with google voice through my university email and i can access it on my pc and what not, it says have a google number and when i call it i can get my voice mail, and i get transcribed voicemails and what not. however, when i downloaded the app from the market and and to activate it under 'voice' settings i get to the step where i enter my pin and the it says 'Your phone number could not be verified. Please try again later' what gives?i have tried over a week or so and it still gives me the same message. i read that if you chose the 'different' account option and type in your email that will work but when i do that it says my password is wrong. also, when i hold down the '1' on my phone it takes me to my Verizon voice mail, i though i was using google voice? i must say this is a very confusing service so far.

A few days ago my fiancee received a text from an email address while I was with her. It had some gibberish and a phone number. She deleted it right after she read it. She has a BlackBerry Tour on Verizon. Today, I got basically the same thing - a message from "CJOHNS235@sprintpcs.com" and the body is "EPPlCARD LLBH alert 521148. call 828-268-**** ". I googled the phone number and apparently it's some guy named Steve in North Carolina. If it was an email I wouldn't be worried, but it came to my phone number. I never give out my cell number for anything.

I was curious to know if anyone is aware of any program that allows you to make calls and adds the dashes in the number as you type them. For instance, right now with the Inc when placing a call, the number displays like this:
5555555555
Anyone know if there's a way to make it:
555-555-5555
A little easier on the eyes. I doubt that there is something like this but thought I'd ask.

Looking for a tip here.
How do you look up a local phone number (for calling) or address (for nav).
I have tried Yellow Pages, magnifying glass (search), and a few other apps but nothing is working great for finding the closest Pizza Hut for example (had a gift certificate). What do you use?
