HTC Incredible :: Need App For Security
Sep 8, 2010
I use an electronic wallet for my secure data but how do you keep all the other files on your sd card safe. Since the card is formated with fat32 and can be inserted into any memory reader locking the phone doesn't help. Are there any apps for security? A TrueCrypt port would be nice If you root the phone can you partition the card with ext4 and make the files secure.

Now that I have 2.2, I like that we now have the option of using a pin number or a password to lock our phones from prying eyes. I going the pin route for now. Now that we have these options, what will you use to secure your phone?

Now that rooters are tethering wireless, I see an option for WEP in the tethering app. Seems like a good idea. Any thoughts on this and other options in the program? I guess I'm wanting to discuss a best case setup regarding all the menu options.

when you enable the pattern to unlock you have to do the htc unlock first and slide down which reveals the pattern. Is there a way to just make it the pattern?

Just curious, are there any methods or apps that add security to your phone? Like locating a stolen phone, or wiping memory when stolen, etc.One idea, if the phone is lost or stolen: I use Locale. I could set a condition that triggers the "open shortcut" situation, and turns ON Google Latitude. The condition could be a calendar event. When I realize that the phone is lost or stolen, I could set a G-cal event that starts immediately, so when the phone syncs the calendar to Google, it triggers the Locale condition/situation.
-If you don't use Locale, you are probably really confused after reading that. That's ok.
-Google Latitude basically shows you and your friends on a G-map. That way, when it gets stolen, I could go to Latitude on my comp and find my stolen phone. It's bundled with Google Maps (I think).
I want to hear what you guys use for security on your phones. Whether it's a simple app that lets you find it around the house (Wheres My Droid), or something more complex, like the idea above.

Is there such thing on the android market that would allow you to remotely connect to your phone if it were lost and wipe everything off of the phone? Say my phone is lost and I wanted to wipe it remotely so nobody could access the information or contacts on it is there an application for this available?

So I had a question about the security of apps on the market. I read the sticky about it which was very helpful but have a question about a particular app. In my hunt for a good alarm clock app I found "alarm clock plus" which I downloaded and think its a great app but I'm kind of worried about some of the permissions it uses.
They are:
Your Location, coarse (network based) location Network communication, full internet access Phone calls, read phone state and identity System tools, modify global system settings, prevent phone from sleeping
Is there anything here that seems sketchy? I thought it might need location for some sort of weather functionality, but it doesnt have anything like that. And I dont know why it would need full internet access either.
Maybe I am being to paranoid about the whole app security thing, what do you guys think?

I'm looking for something that can tell me where my phone is if it's lost or stolen and will also allow me to remotely erase the phone if it's gotten into the wrong hands. Right now I have Lookout but it doesn't seem to have the functions I need. Any suggestions?

I want app-based security. If I lose my phone, I don't care if someone sees my contacts, or views my pictures, or plays my games. I do care, however, if they use my email. So, why not be able to assign on an app-by-app basis what is security protected?I should have to log in (a la Android screen lock) whenever I open my email.... but I don't have to just because the screen is asleep.

I stumbled upon this article yesterday:
Hacker Spoofs Cell Phone Tower to Intercept Calls | Threat Level | Wired.com
I realize that there is a relatively small number of people who would actually try to do such a thing to intercept calls (and potentially data at some point with some tweaks), but assuming that this can easily be done and such, how big of a deal is this really? I'm not too well-versed when it comes to cell phone communications technology, so I'm just curious if anyone here can offer any opinions as far as just how vulnerable this leaves those of us on networks that use GSM like AT&T and T-Mobile. The article mentions that the hacker was only really able to make it work on 2G. Does that mean we're okay as long as our phones show we're on EDGE or 3G?

htc hero is my first android device & i use it for my regular e-banking too, with pc we use internet security suite, anti spyware & etc to insure our system, what we have to do about our mobile phones? we use same user names & same password on our pc & our phone & if we need to guard them on pc it seems to me natural to do the same on our phone.i download a lot of third party app which potentially have access to those info & i really don't know is security a matter of consideration on mobile as same as pc or NOT?

Just installed Mobile Defense. It's pretty cool, but I'm wondering if there are any better ones out there? I have a couple problems with it:You can remotely lock the phone, but when I do and it prompts me for the lock pattern I set up, I can just tap the screen or do any random pattern and it unlocks? I don't like having to do the pattern for everyday use.The tracking map is obviously very innacurate when GPS is turned off, but I don't like keeping it on because I feel like its a battery drainer. Anyone know of a way to remotely turn on GPS without being rooted?I would like to see both of these features and possibly something that can display my name and a contact number on the lock screen. Any ideas?

I was sat around today and when I went to go on my HTC Desire I was asked to set up a password. Strange, I thought but I set one up and it turns out to be the ScreenLock password. Usually the phone asks for a pattern to be drawn to unlock it etc etc now I have to put in the password I was asked to set up instead. When I go into the phone security settings I cannot disable the password or change it back to the pattern method...? I prefer the pattern method as it's much easier to input than the little keyboard to put in password, and I can turn it off when I'm at home.

I know iphone has icam/Drop cam that can do this, but do the android phones have something similar where you can install cams in your house and get alerts on your phone with realtime footage, etc?I can totally relate near the end of the clip where they show a cam is pointed out in front of her yard where she can catch which dogs are dropping bombs on her lawn. I'd love to be able to do the same. Any ideas what are good cams/setup to achieve this?

I was wondering if using the option in the Android manifest to install to SD would make a game any easier to pirate. I really don't know how hard it is to pirate an app on Android Market as it is actually. I am assuming someone with some knowledge can do it but can the average consumer? Would moving to SD make it so even the average consumer can steal it?

I was curious about whether or not there is a security app that would let me record video while i am gone with my droid, that would have the capability of motion detection or just "always recording." It would be really nice if i could hook it to my computer via my usb cord and record it continuously on my 1 tb hard drive or something in that realm. someone has been snooping around and things are always misplaced or stolen, and I'm worried as to whether or not they have a camera set up in here bugging the room (bunch of freaks.) if i could just catch them it would be great. the room's dead bolt is broken. and I'm not here 70% of the time. If they do have a camera already in the room, i can set it up in a way that they wont notice the camera I've placed. Please help!

Since the recent Froyo update myself and some co-workers are having trouble with Outlook. It always worked fine before but now it keeps saying we need to update our security settings. When you click it though it just disappears and then comes back later. It receives e-mails fine, but Outlook doesn't want to send e-mails anymore for some reason.

Hey guys, I previously posted this (i have now added something extra to this one) on another thread, it took me about 20 minutes to write, surpassing by far any the maximum time I ever spent on one single forum post in the past lmao.It was originally a response to someone who wanted to activate gps remotely if they lost their phone in order to use 'lookout' and then deactivate it afterwards to save battery. I though I'd make it its own thread since it took me ages to write, and it can effectively replace several features of the 'lookout' security app.
