Removed the Footprints and Peep widgets following some directions from the board here... Now when I go into the widget menu, I have 2 entries. One is "0.0dip" and the other "false". Footprints was "0.0dip", as I removed that last night, and now "false" from removing Peep.

When the official OTA update hits it will possibly include froyo but there is also a chance (maybe 50/50) that it will lock us out of root. If it doesn't this post is a moot point. Now you can't get a rom with the leaked update because of the change in radio performed to the phone, but you could always get a rom with just stock froyo (w/sense) ripped from it.
Meaning: If the update closes the "hole" to root, you will have to revert to stock, install the leaked ota update, than install the stock froyo rom after someone rips it for us. So just a heads up for those that have the leaked update, just sit tight and see what the future holds before you uninstall something you may need.

So there are a bunch of apps that I have no desire to see on a regular basis. This is my first android phone (coming from a BB) and I could usually remove apps from the listing of core apps in the desktop software, but haven't learned how to do this with the Android OS. The specific apps I'm talking about are the ones that came on the phone like Twitter, Flickr, and Peep.

I am creating an application which requires login and enables user to configure some settings.
However I would like to enable user to store preferred settings, username and password.
Does anyone know how to store and retrieve values from registry? Another possibility is using SQL Lite database but if possible I would prefer to store values to registry.

I have updated my Galaxy S with the registry hack to Froyo but I still have 2.1 update1 on it. I have read here How to get the Galaxy S Froyo 2.2 update RIGHT NOW if you own a GT-i9000 device, regardless of European country [UPDATED] | CareAce that Samsung pulled the Froyo update so people with can't access it with the registry hack. Is there any other way to get the update through Kies?

I have a X10 Mini Android Terminal. The phone is very useful and delightful but i can't find how to delete some calls from the registry (answered, missed and dialed). The Phone just gives me the option to delete all the registry.
Can I delete some calls without erasing all of them?
If it's not possible with the phone itself, Is there another way to do it? Maybe dowloading an app from the Android Market?

I have a small problems with animations. I have a custom View Group inside of a Frame Layout. I'm animating one of the children of my custom View Group with a Translate Animation. The problem is that the View that I'm animating leaves traces, so it's like the entire screen isn't redrawn during the animation. What could be the problem?

When typing in an AutoCompleteTextView, when the list shrinks because the number of matches goes down, the DropDown leaves several "ghost" elements on the screen. This only seems to happen when an IME is visible, and visually, it appears to be limited to the area that shows the autocomplete suggestions for the input method, so quite possibly it's happening in what is part of the IME's layout. This occurs in 2.0.1, 2.1 and 2.2 emulators, and most likely on devices as well (confirmed at least on Milestone running 2.1- upgrade1). It _does not_ seem to happen in an 1.6 emulator.

I followed all the instructions on updating to Android 2.1 and I did not have any error messages in the process. When I boot my X10, I am still at Android 1.6. Worse yet, the backup/restore application does not restore everything. I have to reconfigure my main screens and the worse of it is my Touchdown client needs to be reconfigured for exchange sync and I have to reconfigure it and re-download everything again. How can I diagnose why my android doesn't update? I am using Windows 7 x64. The process looked like it was working, but I see the following in the driverinstaller_install_usbflashdriver.log file:

My application uses a list of media files on the phone, i.e. images, audio and video. It also allows the user to filter the list via some checkboxes in a menu, so the user can choose to show or hide each type of files. The way I've been doing this is by putting this in the adapter's getView():
// don't show unwanted file types if (cmo.hasType(MediaType.AUDIO_FILE)){
if(!prefs.getBoolean(PREFS_SHOWAUDIO, true)){ return new ViewStub(mContext);;
} }else if(cmo.hasType(MediaType.IMAGE_FILE)){ if(!prefs.getBoolean(PREFS_SHOWIMG, true)){
return new ViewStub(mContext);;
} }else if( cmo.hasType(MediaType.VIDEO_FILE)){ if(!prefs.getBoolean(PREFS_SHOWVIDEO, true)){ return new ViewStub(mContext);; } }
Which is quite effective in the sense that the list doesn't show those elements. However, the ListView still renders a 1px grey line between each View, even if they are ViewStubs, meaning I see a thick gray line whenever a group of consecutive items are filtered away. How can I get rid of those lines? Should I create a new data array, containing only the elements that should show a view?

I've made a few apps now, which use an SQLite database, no problems. In my latest app, I want two tables, and I just released that every example I can find only creates one table. So, is this a limitation? Must I use only one table? Assuming I can use two, how do I go about changing my create script?

Lets say Im creating an Android app for a company that already provides some sort of online service. I want my android app to extend this online service and I want the app to interact with my remote databases, would I embed a web browser in my application or directly connect to my remote database from within my code? If I am directly connected to a database from within code and not through a web browser, would that be a security risk since the connection info would be distributed in the code?

Can anyone tell me, is it possible to use the ADB to pull and push a database from an app, without root privileges on the phone? For example, I know the location on my rooted magic and dream is:
/data/data/com.xxxx.xxxx/databases/xxxx
I know that you can use ADB without root, but when trying to use the shell - you can't view that location without root privaliges. But I have been told you can use push and pull if you know the file you want? Basically I want to pull a database from MY app on a non rooted phone modify it and push it back on. Only trouble I have is, the two phones I have are both root and I don't have access to a non root one to try it out.

I have some external sqlite files I'd like to include with my app. It looks like I can add them to the /assets folder, then read them from there? Is the /assets folder the appropriate location for them?
I've used SQLiteOpenHelper to open databases my app creates at runtime, which just uses a unique db name. Will the sqlite files in the assets folder also be accessible using SQLiteOpenHelper in the same manner?

I'm trying this with my Nexus One.
I have the android SDK and have used the command
adb pull /data/data/com.myapp.android/databases C:pulls
but all I get is
pull: building file list...
0 files pulled. 0 files skipped.
Also, it seems no matter how much data I add to the tutorial NotePad app I installed, the data size for the app (as shown in Settings) never exceeds 8KB. How is this possible? Is there some other place where databases are stored? When I use the File Explorer view (that's part of ADT) in Eclipse, I see there's nothing in /data.
To add a twist, I have no trouble pulling any other files from the device. It's just databases I have trouble with.

It sort of has me a bit worried about rooting now because my passwords technically would be out in the open. I created this thread to get the reactions of people who have already rooted their handsets.
