HTC Incredible :: How To Skip Words In Predictive Text?
Jun 9, 2010
The predictive text on the HTC stock keyboard works great. However, there are certain occasions where I do not want to select the predicted word (or any of the other suggestions). Normally, I would want to hit the spacebar to proceed to the next word I want to type. However, when I hit spacebar it selects the predicted text and replaces what I typed. Is there a trick to skipping predicted text?

While using the predictive text in the DINC I sometimes want to type something that isn't a word like an acronym or some abbreviation. Predictive text will suggest a word close to what I am typing but I don't want that. It offers exactly what I am typing as an option but then it adds that text to the dictionary. Sometimes that's great but most of the time I want to simple use the term once and not add it to to dictionary. If I type space it will change my text. If I select the offered override it adds the text to my dictionary. How do I just keep what I am typing?

i love my phone, but the suggestions offered by predictive text drives me crazy sometimes! i would like to know how i change the order of the suggested words? for example, when i am using the t9 keyboard and i have predictive text on and i press #4 and #3 i am usually trying to type the word "if" or "he" but the word typed is "id" which is kinda stupid as this is a much less often used word. how do i change it this? when i was using a s60 device i could open a new message and keep typing the same word over and over again until it started giving me the word i wanted as my first option. please dont tell me to use the full keyboard as i prefer to use the phone keypad so i can text one-handed.

When i use the compact keyboard, or T9 (not qwerty)..when I type OK, it always defaults to PM and i have to click OK, which is second on the list. Also, when i type home, it always defaults to GOOD, and i have to manually click home, is there a way that it can learn which words use most so that i wont have to constantly pick those words? it would speed up my typing by 150% if it just used the words i used most.

I use the TouchPal onscreen keyboard and there doesn't seem to be a way to add new words to the prediction list.
Now that the phone is rooted, I plan on really searching around, but before I do, maybe someone already has the answer.
Is there a sqllite database file somewhere in the system that contains the list of words that we can just easily add to?

You know how when you type something incorrectly it corrects it to the most likely word? Well, in a few cases I have saved words on accident, like I saved the word "tou" once by accident. So now every time I type that it stays at that and doesn't auto correct to "you." How can I go into my saved words or even predictive text menu and edit words?

I have used Swype, and the beta stopped working and no version works. I also HATE that you can not do voice to text. So then I get the froyo keyboard raved about on here. For some reason voice to text does not work and I get a server error no matter what. So then I get swiftkey trial. Excellent keyboard. It does not seem to always use predictive text. For example when I open my gmail app and respond to email it does not work. Voice to text works great though.I like predictive text and voice to text. Those are musts.

I do like using the predictive text on my desire, i find it much easier, one question i have though, is there anyway to change the order in which the phone gives suggestions, so if it always predicts a certain word as the 2nd option, is there anyway to make that word always the first option? for instance if i type they, which i do a lot, view always is the first option, it would be so much more useful for me to be able to set certain words as the first prediction.

I want to get an app that offers predictive text since my Droid does not seem to do it by default. Does Better keyboard do this? I want it to be able to finish my words before I finish typing them.

Somehow I changed the settings on my phone so that the predictive text has started prioritizing the names in my contact info when auto completing the text. For example, if I type "thr" it won't suggest "the" but "Theo". I recall changing a setting somewhere in the phone that enabled this, but now I want to turn it off and have no idea where this setting was buried away.

Every time I try to type anything, every single word results in the predictive text box appearing giving suggestions which most of the time are wrong. After 30 words or so, it becomes so sluggish that it can take 30secs+ before I can type the next word.

Regarding the lack of Predictive Text or XT9 on certain applications: I contacted google with the following bug report:- Steps to reproduce the problem. Verizon Droid Eris (stock, 1.5 i think): tap the magnifying glass to search the web. use the 9-key phone pad method of text input.
What happened."XT9" text input is locked. only "ABC" or "abc" available. What you think the correct behavior should be. All android applications and functions that accept text input should support XT9 predictive texting for the 9-key phonepad and compact-qwerty. The google folks said the following: "Android does not contain a T-9 input method by default. Please report this bug to HTC, owners of that particular piece of software."And then HTC said the following: Hello Ben Thank you for contacting HTC technical support about the abc/xt9 being greyed out. I have checked on this for you and found that is how the device is set up when using these areas on the apps. There is no way of changing this and I do apologize for that. When entering google searches and also browser addresses predictive text is not available for input. If you have any other questions feel free to reply. You may also enjoy www.htcwiki.com, our customer-based forum, which has a plethora of information on HTC devices. I would also like to invite you to participate in a customer satisfaction survey located at HTC Online Survey.

Is there any app that allows you to change the order in which words appear in my predictive text list, or completely delete one? It annoys me that everytime I try to type 'as' I get 'BS', even when I never remember typing that in a message.

As of yesterday my predictive text has gone weird. It seems to be making very odd choices of words when I'm typing a text. It also seems to be including some foreign language characters which I think are Turkish. I've checked the language settings and it's definitely set to English. The problem isn't application specific as I've tried both the default messages application but it appears to be specific to the Touch Input keyboard as SwiftKey keyboard appears to be ok. I've tried rebooting but it's the same deal. I prefer the default keyboard so I really don't want to go to another one.

In the past, when listening to music on my Incredible, if I locked the phone the music would continue to play just fine. If I wanted to pause/play/skip a song, all I had to do was hit the power button and above the "Slide to unlock" bar there was a music control bar.
Now, my music still plays, but those buttons are gone from the lock screen. This is a pain because in order to pause my music when someone comes to my desk at work I have to hit the power button, unlock the phone, slide down the notifications window, wait for the music app to load then hit pause.
Anyone know how to get these buttons back?

I'm wondering how to add words to the dictionary (aside from going into menu>settings>language & keyboard) like I used to be able to with my droid. If i was texting along and came to a word that wasn't in the dictionary, I could just long press and then select "add to dictionary". Well this phone doesn't have that option and so I'm wondering if I'm just missing it or what..?

I have switched to the Incredible from the BB Storm. In my Storm, I set "u" to auto-correct to "you," "brb" to auto-correct to "be right back," etc. What apps are available that include this? I think Uber Dictionary does, but I'd like to find one that i can use with Swype.

I love the fact that I can type words like "im" and it predicts into "I'm". Is it an all or nothing though because I'm continually getting odd words thrown into my texts and not catching it. Mostly happens with slang usage or proper names. Is the only trick to keep entering these things into the personal dictionary until you root out the majority of mishaps or is there a better way. Almost wish there was a list of usual suspects that it'd auto fix but that it'd leave alone proper name entries and abbreviations and so forth. Wishful thinking or possible?
