HTC Incredible :: Entering .com In Swype?
Jun 18, 2010
Is there a shortcut or something to enter '.com' in fields using Swype? On the stock keyboard there is a key for '.com' which actually comes in handy quite a bit.
Just didn't know if Swype also made this easy?
On that note, is there a full list somewhere of Swype shortcuts?

sometimes when i enter a URL in dolphin HD it will default to a google search of that URL. for example i type in "formspring.me/blahbah" and it will search for that. same thing with "www.formspring.me/blahblah" but if i type in manually "http://www.formspring.me/blahblah" it will load just fine.

I signed up for the beta testing a while back. Got this link in an email update from Swype. You have to uninstall swype and the old installer first. Access it from your Android phone. https://beta.swype.com/android/get/

I've searched around and found various APK's for Swype but does anyone know which is the "official" one, or latest one, or whatever? I'm looking for the best one for the DInc.

I'm new to Swype and loving it so far. But what do you do when you have to type in a web address? Is there a simple way to shut Swype off for that purpose?

Sorry if this is already somewhere on the forum. I searched and just got a bunch of complaint threads about swype. My girlfriend likes the incredible, but is leaning towards the droid x instead because she knows it has swype preinstalled. If i had it on my inc, she'd be all over it. How can i get it on my incredible?

New Motorola DROID 2 Global details emerge | BGR. according to a leaked document from verizon re: droid 2 global, it lists that the HTC Incredible has Swype built in.
can anyone who purchased an incredible recently comment if swype is pre-loaded?
or, can anyone comment if they've been hearing rumors that the incredible will start getting swype pre-loaded in the future...and if that's the case, if they will somehow distribute it to older incredible users?

I have it installed. It's checked under keyboards in settings. I go to a random txt msg and hold down the voice button until it turns into settings but under keyboard types I only have 3 choices and none of them are swype.

I tried to install Swype. It installed no problem, and I can select it as an input method. All is good, untill I try to swype a word. I get the little "swype mark" blue streak deal, and it makes the noise, but no word appears in the text box area. I've tried it on the internet, handcent, and normal messages.

I downloaded and installed Swype. I went to settings>language & keyboard and checked the Swype box. Under touch input>keyboard types, I only have 3 options Qwerty, Phone Keypad and Compact Qwerty. One of them has to be selected. Anyway, even with the Swype box selected, the qwerty keyboard still shows up on any screen where I enter text. I went through the Swype tutorial and know that its installed, I just can't seem to activate it.

Posted this last night but it got deleted or something so I will try again. Here is a link to apk for a blue swype keyboard. This is not the keyboard that the keys turn blue when you press them, the entire keyboard is blue. Thanks to Sneakyfreak for making this and allowing me to share it.You have to uninstall any previous keyboards you are running on swype then install this apk to have it work.

Swype was killed and it will not reinstall even though I was in the beta. For some reason, it won't accept my password even though I know for sure it's right and confirmed it on the swype beta page. If anyone has any advice for me to reswype.

I received the following email from androidplayground.net today and thought I'd pass it along. I installed and it works. Enjoy. The company Swype has an open beta for Android users of their Keyboard Swype. It is currently free. All you need to do is visit Swype | Text Input for Screens and create an account. It has really made typing on the phone easy! You should check it out if you do not already have it on your phone.

This is more of a preemptive post for anyone that comes into the same issue as I did.My Swype was not working, so I had to uninstall, run the installer again, put in my Swype beta information to login, downloaded the app again and it worked fine afterwards.Just don't panic if it happens to you too.

I noticed that the version of swype that we should be able to use for our incredibles it might not be possible to use voice to text.
Does anyone know if theres a way to add the functionality to a swype keyboard that we install.
I dont have the phone yet, so cant test anything, but would appreciate some input from those who have them already, or anyone else in the know.
From what I can discern, would it be possible to follow the steps listed here: Add Full Voice to Text To HTC Phones Nimbu to add the functionality to the swype keyboard thats we can install?

Well after you have swype installed and ready to go here are a few tips to help you get the most out of it:
1. Use the built in tutorial. This tutorial takes 5 minutes to complete but will show you the ins and outs of using its keyboard, its very handy and a must if you intend on using it.
2. If a word you swype in does not come up correctly or offers you choices that are not even close, just click the X and then type it in one letter at a time, using the peck-a-key method. This adds it to the dictionary and the next time you swype it in, it'll work.
3. The built in dictionary is not as complete as you may want it, but over time it will learn how you type/swype and will work better as time goes on. After a week or so it should work with most or all the words you swype in, but give it time. They exclude some words on purpose (cuss words etc) or words that aren't very commonly used to keep the size of the file small so it doesn't take up too much space on your device with words and patterns you don't use.
4. Holding down a button will change the letter to the symbol above the letter. This comes in handy when you need to insert a couple numbers or commonly used symbols and don't want to switch screens. I find its much quicker to just hold a button than switching, hitting the key and then switching back.
5. Holding down the back key will delete full words at a time. That way you don't need to keep hitting the back key repeatedly, this is a time saver if you need to delete a full sentence for example.
6. Pushing shift will change the symbol keyboard to the symbols/characters above the numbers. This just makes it quicker to choose a symbol instead of long pressing the key to achieve the same result.I'll update this post and add more tips as i can think of them or others post them.
