During past few day ran three speed tests (speedtest.net) using home WIFI connection. Couldn't believe the download speeds:
(1) 9,885 kbps
(2) 12,181 kbps
(3) 13,372 kbps
My Eris was maybe a tenth of this. Definitely worth the switch. Wonder how it compares to the competition?

Walked around downtown Seattle this afternoon testing 4g speeds. The bad news is it averaged a little over 2 mbs download, less than 1 up. The good news is good 3g only produced about .5 down, and about the same up, so 4g tested a lot better. By comparison, by home WiFi gives me >8 down, and about 2.5 up. 4g varied between 1-3 bars. Any suggestions how things might be speeded up? Did not have on GPS, WiFi when testing 4g. There are a lot of tall building where I was walking, but had more consistent results up on the 37th floor of one of the office buildings; still never more than 2.6 download.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've tried Xtremelabs Speedtest (which seems more reliable) and Speedtest.net's app (which uses Kansas City as the server due to Sprint's proxy). I haven't been able to get over 800Kbps down no matter what. This morning I hit a new low and couldn't go over 350 with full service. My Touch Pro would consistently get about 1.2 - 1.5MBps. I would tether with it and use it as a hot spot with no issues. Friends would comment on how fast the 3G speeds on Sprint are. I don't feel I can have the same confidence in the Evo's speed.I'm thinking either there is some aggressive power saving happening on the phone or Sprint's network has been heavily congested since the release of the phone.Are there other speed tests people are doing? I'm going to try dslreports but I know that one has issues on accuracy sometimes.

I'm curious if this is just a Sprint issue. Evo on Sprint is much faster ,so its not a network issue.
Is there any reason that download speeds over my Wifi are soooo slow? I'm downloading a 150MB file from usenet and it's going to take about 20 minutes. Same file from this pc over the same Wifi takes under 2 minutes. I'm not looking for the exact same speed (though it would be awesome) but something more reasonable would be nice. Could it be the SD card is too slow in write performance? Just wondering if this is an issue with the phone, or a simple SD card upgrade.
View 3 Replies View Related"Hello, World" and "Hello, Testing" tutorials I created an android application created with Eclipse, along with a corresponding Android Test Project.The tests run fine once. After that, in order for me to run the tests again, I have to close the emulator.If I don't close the emulator, the Eclipse console get stuck on "Installing instrumentation android.test.InstrumentationTestRunner on device emulator-5554"... Nothing happens after that.I've been told to exit out of the application under test in the emulator in order to run the test again. Unfortunately the emulator doesn't have the app pulled up (it's in the normal "locked" position and when unlocked brings up the home screen) and even if I do pull it up then exit, it doesn't seem to let me run my tests again.All the example videos and tutorials all stop at the first run of a test. I have yet to see anyone anywhere run a test a second time!

If I set my EVO down right next to it (running CM6 nightlies), I am getting almost no signal and DL speed of only 1.5 mbps. Ok, not to ask a stupid question, but since they are both on N, why is my computer getting so much better signal and faster download?

down: .21mbps
up: .49mbps
ping: 189ms
i ran my taskiller to kill other apps thinking it would speed my rates up but no real improvements. the funny thing is if i tether my phone via easytether and run the speedtest on my laptop my rates jump to over 1 full mbps. not sure why though

I just bought a wireless N router and to my disappointment the X shows a download speed of 65mbps. Is that the max speed or do I have to make some kind of adjustment?

I get around 1mb/sec using 3G. My laptop gets around 15mb/s over my 802.11g network. I'm guessing that the difference might be because my laptop has 4gb ram and a dual core and the ERIS doesn't.

I have recently rooted but had the problem before that. That leads to my second question.I haven't called verizon yet, should I unroot before I do? If something similar has been posted im sorry, I could not find it. Is anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am in a verizon store. There is a droidx and droid incredible right next to each other. I installed speedtest.net app on both. Used advanced task killer to kill background apps on both..then ran speedtest.net app.Ran the test ten times on each phone to get a good average. Droidx gets 0.50 mbps max...incredible gets 2.0 mbps nearly on every one of the ten runs I did. Why? Is this a known issue? I wanna get the phone..its in stock..but this speedtest issue is bugging me. Any explanations?Also the droid x is getting only 2 bars..the inc has full signal. Been here about an hour, and no change in signal or speedtest.live update.. I am going to drive to another verizon store right now and repeat the tests on new phones..I will run with and withouth task killer. Ill update once I get to the new verizon store.

So i was out the other night with a few friends and we decided to race our phones going to various web sites. We laid all three phones down in a triangle next to each other. We would all type in the same web site and hit go at the same time. My incredible was killing them. Compared to the droid, the incredible would load the site about 5 seconds faster. The iphone was not even close. One site took about 15 to 20 seconds longer to load on the iPhone. They were shocked at how fast the incredible was. I am so glad I have this phone!
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I have had my phone rooted for a while now. I started using the hydra kernels, but kingxkick kernels are faster. I didn't have the Moto droid and I'm not really sure how kernels work, only how to install them and how to use them. But the moto droid has a 500 mhz processor and has been oced to 1.2 ghz! Thats a massive improvement. My point is why have we only been able to oc by .19 ghz or mhz however you would denominate that?
View 8 Replies View RelatedOk I was getting really weird results from speedtest.net's app... like very erratic between -0 (yes negative 0) and about 400 yesterday and today. so I look and I'm on the Albuquerque, NM server... i go to the server list and linkline in Los Angeles isn't listed.. Albuquerque, NM is 900 miles away, no wonder I'm getting bad speeds.. prior to that I was on Los Angeles and getting 2+ mb/s 3G .every other server in the list is more than 1000 miles away from mearea)...When I go to speedtest.net's website Its showing me somewhere in the middle of the country (i'm assuming because of my IP address, which happens to me when I tether including getting the spanish google sometimes). Unfortunately there's no other way to specify a location in the speedtest.net app so I can't accurately test my speed.

I made a quick video to demonstrate the vast difference in reported 4G speed between the Android speedtest.net app and the browser version of the speakeasy test. My results show great differences btw the two (2-3 Mbps). I don't know which one is correct; but I think the Speedtest app cannot correctly determine WiMax and WiFi speeds. In addition to what the video shows, when the EVO is connected to home Wifi the greatest speed Ive seen is 11 Mbps (even though the app dial stops at 10) when a laptop test done at the same time correctly shows 15+. Is anyone else seeing similar? I just think its flawed that many are using the app as the standard for network speeds on mobile devices.

When I was using the S3, I just inserted my SIM card and I was good to go. I like to use the Speedtest app when I'm out and about to see what speeds I'm getting, and the app worked just fine on the S3.
Last week, I got the LG Nexus 4 and inserted the SIM card and was also up and running. However, the Speedtest app does not work out in the field. It works just fine on my WiFi network but, when I try it outside, it just gives a large ping number and then does nothing. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the Speedtest app, but still nothing.
