I did a speedtest with 3g a few times today, with tethering and without. every time i do it, i get download speeds of 80-300 kbps, and upload from 400-700! is there some strange explanation for this?

What results should I be seeing when using Speedtest over 3G? Over WiFi, I'm getting 9Mbps down and .55Mbps up which is fine. But over 3G, I'm getting .22Mbps down and .12Mbps up. A bit low isn't it?

To do a speedtest you can download an app from market place called speedtest... it is provide by speedtest.net. or you can use your phones browser and go to www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ this second option might not work if your phone doesn't support flash maybe.

View 3 Replies View RelatedOk I was getting really weird results from speedtest.net's app... like very erratic between -0 (yes negative 0) and about 400 yesterday and today. so I look and I'm on the Albuquerque, NM server... i go to the server list and linkline in Los Angeles isn't listed.. Albuquerque, NM is 900 miles away, no wonder I'm getting bad speeds.. prior to that I was on Los Angeles and getting 2+ mb/s 3G .every other server in the list is more than 1000 miles away from mearea)...When I go to speedtest.net's website Its showing me somewhere in the middle of the country (i'm assuming because of my IP address, which happens to me when I tether including getting the spanish google sometimes). Unfortunately there's no other way to specify a location in the speedtest.net app so I can't accurately test my speed.

I made a quick video to demonstrate the vast difference in reported 4G speed between the Android speedtest.net app and the browser version of the speakeasy test. My results show great differences btw the two (2-3 Mbps). I don't know which one is correct; but I think the Speedtest app cannot correctly determine WiMax and WiFi speeds. In addition to what the video shows, when the EVO is connected to home Wifi the greatest speed Ive seen is 11 Mbps (even though the app dial stops at 10) when a laptop test done at the same time correctly shows 15+. Is anyone else seeing similar? I just think its flawed that many are using the app as the standard for network speeds on mobile devices.

View 49 Replies View RelatedWalked around downtown Seattle this afternoon testing 4g speeds. The bad news is it averaged a little over 2 mbs download, less than 1 up. The good news is good 3g only produced about .5 down, and about the same up, so 4g tested a lot better. By comparison, by home WiFi gives me >8 down, and about 2.5 up. 4g varied between 1-3 bars. Any suggestions how things might be speeded up? Did not have on GPS, WiFi when testing 4g. There are a lot of tall building where I was walking, but had more consistent results up on the 37th floor of one of the office buildings; still never more than 2.6 download.

I'm trying out both the Galaxy S3 and the LG Nexus 4 on AT&T.
When I was using the S3, I just inserted my SIM card and I was good to go. I like to use the Speedtest app when I'm out and about to see what speeds I'm getting, and the app worked just fine on the S3.
Last week, I got the LG Nexus 4 and inserted the SIM card and was also up and running. However, the Speedtest app does not work out in the field. It works just fine on my WiFi network but, when I try it outside, it just gives a large ping number and then does nothing. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the Speedtest app, but still nothing.
Epic users are all reporting slow speeds on 3G.Our upload speeds seem to be capped at 200KBPS. Can you Galaxy owners check your speeds with speedtest.net app ?
I'm curious if this is just a Sprint issue. Evo on Sprint is much faster ,so its not a network issue.
I am in a verizon store. There is a droidx and droid incredible right next to each other. I installed speedtest.net app on both. Used advanced task killer to kill background apps on both..then ran speedtest.net app.Ran the test ten times on each phone to get a good average. Droidx gets 0.50 mbps max...incredible gets 2.0 mbps nearly on every one of the ten runs I did. Why? Is this a known issue? I wanna get the phone..its in stock..but this speedtest issue is bugging me. Any explanations?Also the droid x is getting only 2 bars..the inc has full signal. Been here about an hour, and no change in signal or speedtest.live update.. I am going to drive to another verizon store right now and repeat the tests on new phones..I will run with and withouth task killer. Ill update once I get to the new verizon store.

Since my Vibrant is unlocked, I asked for him to let me try his AT&T sim card on my phone to validate what I've been reading about the AT&T 3G on the Vibrant.Before he removed his sim card, I asked for him to run the speedtest.net and we registered 1120 & 1080 kbps for Down speed, using the Austin location server. After swapping his sim chip into my phone, with the same Austin server, my Vibrant registered 1785 & 1693 kbps Down. The jaw dropping, blank staring expression on his face was priceless ..I let him played with the Vibrant for a while, he indicated to me a few weeks ago that he was about to upgrade his 3GS to the new iphone 4, but now he's having serious second thought. The old chap wasn't aware of how advanced Android has progressed, and was surprised how much bigger & better the Vibrant's screen is over the iPhone 4 that has been gawking over for the last few months.'ve casually mentioned to him a few weeks ago about the unlocked Vibrant can do both T-Mobile as well as AT&T 3G frequencies, and he brushed me off in disbelief. His sticking point with T-mobile GSM is that it doesn't have the 3G frequency that he needs for his frequent overseas travel. He called me just now to find out where he can get the Vibrant for cheap.

While sitting at my computer, phone next to me with screen off, out of the corner of my eye I noticed the phones screen come on then very quickly go off, probably less than 2 secs., watched it for awhile and it did the same thing again...very quick on/off of the screen. Doesn't appear to be on any time schedule it just does it. What ever could this be? I havent been able to find any posts similar except maybe random reboots but this isn't it. It could be after getting a text, using ChompSMS with the "screen on from sleep" option..

As of this morning my Google calendar has 3 calendars. I have the one that is my main account, another which I created under the main account and share with the wife, and the third is US Holidays. This morning the colors of the calendars were as follows:
Main: Orange
Shared: Blue
Holdidays: Greyish Blue
I just changed them to:
Main: Orange (The orange that is the top left choice of the color chart)
Shared: Blue
Holidays: Green (The green that is on the left directly below the orange)
Here is the bug. In the HTC Calendar app, all of my calendars now show as Orange, however, in CalWidget the colors are displayed correctly. It seems to only happen when I choose that particular Green.
I am experiencing a weird problem. On startu,p while the notification bar is displaying "preparing sd card" and "preparing phone storage" a strange tone is played. It sounds like a ringtone preview...but it doesn't sound pleasant. It makes you believe that there is an error somewhere, but there is no verbal notification. I recently updated several apps at once and installed a new one. I thought this may be the problem, but I still have the sound after uninstalling new app.

When I added and adview to my app it imported a bunch of comments that all start with /** Eclipse is acting like it is not a comment. Although it isn't erroring out it has now marked anything starting with R.id as not existing. Is this something I can remedy in eclipse or is it time to chuck my dreams of being mega rich off of all the admob revenue I will be receiving? Interestingly i am able to see desired output in the emulator. but when i run the program on a device program shows no output. I tried many different way for example putting the XML file in a raw folder but every time no out put on device. Tried this on two different handset and everywhere get the same error.

Once applied it totally removed JI6 and reverted the phone back to the original stock firmware. Or so they claim. So I guess it is a downgrade update lol.I don't know if this is a hoax, or what is going on. I think it is best not to apply any OTA you get, just yet. Until people figure out what is going on, and why the downgrade is occurring. Maybe the phone is preparing for Froyo, downgrading first, in preparation for Froyo, but that makes no sense to me, why wouldn't it just be all done at once.If you get a strange update, let us know!I won't be applying any updates as of yet, I like JI6, and until I know why we are being downgraded, I'm not doing anything to my phone.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI LOVE my EVO, but I have all my notifications set to vibrate which I like, except when I receive an incoming phone call, instead of just vibrating every 2 seconds or so, the thing goes into bezerk crazy vibrate mode, it's quite annoying and loud.Especially if I am sitting in a meeting and I get a call, every other phone I've had in my life just vibrates every few seconds, until it either goes to voicemail, or I ignore the call to stop the vibrating.So is there anyway to keep the EVO from vibrating so ferociously?I mean it doesn't even stop to breathe just one vibrate right after another.

The strange thing is that the two ends of the rectangle aren't rounded over the same. The left-size quarter circles are noticeably smaller than the ones on the right.
Anybody experienced anything similar? It's weird enough that I might change my mind about the round corners if I can't do anything about it.... And if I knew how to do a screen capture from my Android, I would.
The rectangles in question are 78 pixels wide and 48 tall, if that helps (and since ykatchou may be onto something).
So my EVO screen is unresponsive only when I use the dialer (keys 7, 8, 9 in stock dialer and 4, 5, 6 when I tried dialer one). Last I recall this was not an issue when using Fresh 0.5.3 but first emerged when i switched to Fresh 1.01. I promptly returned to Fresh 0.5.3 and the problem was gone. Within the last several weeks, I switched to a 2.2 ROM (Fresh 3.2) and the problem wasn't there until recently when I began flashing different ROMs to try. Anyone run into this a similar non-responsive touch screen only in certain apps and areas? The area of the screen is fine in other apps, it seems to be limited to the dialer.

What's worse it keep reappearing whenever I erase the notification either every 5 minutes or in 5 seconds. I have discovered that it's not appearing when I put the phone in airplane mode so something is trying to be downloaded, but I can't stop it what what I've tried (restarting the phone, clearing the cashe, etc.)
