HTC Desire :: Camera No Longer Works After Froyo Update
Aug 1, 2010Just updated to Froyo, and my camera no longer works, neither in camera or video mode. Tap the icon and the screen shows the white startup icon, then goes back to the home screen. I'm on 3 in the UK, and have an unbranded, un-locked handset, as sent to me by 3. The phone is not rooted.

Nexus :: Modaco Desire ROM / Touch-to-Focus Camera Works?
Apr 12, 2010Just got back from my hols where I used my (stock) N1 camera a lot. Got some great pics but a few certainly highlighted just how important touch-to-focus is to me. Was quickly reading a review of the Desire and read it has touch-to-focus. Was just wondering if anyone who is actually running the modaco desire ROM on their N1 can confirm whether this works? I'd also be interested to know if I could just use the desire camera app on a rooted N1 with Cynanogen? I'm rather partial to the stock appearance and not massively inclined towards Sense UI.

Aug 21, 2010I think everyone who upgraded should test this out right away. I was taking pictures last night with my flash, and I noticed that even though the LED comes on, it turns off again the instant before the shutter closes. This problem is reproducible 100% of the time, and happens whether the picture is taken with the shutter button or the new touch button. This has basically rendered the flash useless.

I am using the app "shopsavvy that uses the camera to scan/focus on a bar code but the auto focus works hard to focus and sometimes can't. Is anyone else experiencing this or similar issues with the camera? Do I need to take it back for a replacement?

May 27, 2010It doesn't have a front facing camera like Evo BUT the Fring app works perfectly and will let you do video calls with the Incredible. This is actually excellent news for me. A lot of the times I couldn't care less who sees me but I want to see them (daughter, wife, etc.). This way they can look at what I'm looking at while I see them.

Jul 17, 2010So I spent the last hour or more in my backyard in 107 degrees taking pictures of flowers at stock settings with both phones. NOT an easy task I will tell you that. My back hurts, but besides that... I did my best to show the best quality of BOTH cameras, because they are both great. I realize that not everyone will agree with me, or will think I messed with something in my pictures. But these are all completely stock settings, not messed with at all. I only touched the flash on/off button.
My decision is I like the X camera better, it is easier to focus, and much snappier. Plus designated camera button! I found on the Incredible while the pictures look great on the phone itself and in gallery, that as soon as they were uploaded the colours looked washed out and not as great. I know this is due to the AMOLED screen. But both overall great. My decision is the X though.

HTC Incredible :: Sense Works In Landscape
Oct 30, 2010So I got my sense to run in landscape, its clearly a glitch, but a repeatable one. I'm toying around with LP so I have home switcher. When you push home, the switcher comes up, as you select HTC Sense turn your phone into landscape, then sense will run like that. The home screens are a little werid, but all the apps and things work fine. FIGURE IT OUT HTC CMON

May 5, 2010First my disclaimer: I offer my apologies if this has already been posted but in my searching I did not see it. Now the good news for those of us needing Outlook, Simply download HTC Sync for Eris (I am using the Incredible) found here HTC Mobile Phone Support - DROID ERIS by HTC (Verizon) - Downloads Install on your computer (also download the manual from the same page). Restart your computer. Attach your powered off phone to the computer via the USB cable, power it on and when prompted select "HTC Sync" (in order to see the selections your screen cannot be in locked mode) Hope this is complete, I believe it is. May 6, 2010I had heard Verizon was unable to allow voice and data usage at the same time. However, when I got my DI I was able to surf the web while talking on the phone. Then this morning Verizon pushes out some update and suddenly when im on the phone 3g disappears.from the top bar and I get an error message that I can't connect to the web. Sep 6, 2010I took several shots of the same inanimate subject (Crayons) at different ISOs under "perfect" light conditions. I also took several shots of a different inanimate object (baby chew toy) under slightly less "perfect" light conditions (namelly I moved about 6 feet deeper into my house). All 100% crops. No retouching of any kind. The shots can be found here:

regretfully imgur removed the file names. But to give you an idea, the shots taken of crayons taken @ ISO 100, 200 and even 800 were nothing to write home about, but photographically acceptable. Noise is visible at all ISOs and @ ISO1250 things fall apart at the 100% scale (chromatic aberration, destructive noise, etc.). The chew toy shots were very telling. Light conditions were good and yet the camera had a hell of a time focusing. Took me several tries to get an acceptably in-focus shot at each ISO. And then I tried photographing my kids. In short, the came failed miserably, in every setting, to get a decent picture: this due to the fact that shutter speed cannot be changed (but this is a HUGE, drawback as it this pretty much puts taking pictures of moving subjects out of the question). Even though children portraiture is a challenge even with pro equipment, my piss-poor point-and-shoot can get a few remarkable pictures of the kids (posing) and yet the Incredible built-in camera could not get a correct focus reading to save its life.
IVMHO, it's a nice add-on camera but with severe photographic drawbacks when photographing moving objects (or even inanimate objects under less than perfect conditions).
HTC Incredible :: Camera Freeze
Apr 30, 2010I'm here here and got my HTC Incredible last night (I'll refrain from making any incredible jokes, though it's far too easy given the amazingness of this phone). I've hit one small bug though, the camera will temporarily freeze when I take a picture and none of the menu options will pop up. It's only happened a few times, I was just wondering if anyone else has hit this same snag? Anyway I'm glad to be on here and hope I can learn a thing or two from you guys about this phone. I converted from an LG Dare and finally decided it was time for a real phone.
