HTC Incredible :: Best Buy Warranty Process

Jul 26, 2010

can't take the phantom swipes any longer. i bought the $10/month warranty through best buy when i pre-ordered, so i'm going to take it in and get a new phone. has anyone been through this process? from what i understand they take my old incredible and i will have a new one mailed to me. i have a few questions:am i safe in assuming i will have my phone in hand in 2 weeks? my plan is to back up internal and sd cards to memory and then factory wiping it, any other suggestions?will it be any use bothering them for a free pack of screen protectors? it wouldn't be a big deal but they are relatively expensive, and now i need to go buy a new pack because the phone they sold me was defective? What kind of a temporary phone can i expect from best buy? do they have guidelines, or is it just any smartphone they have available?

HTC Incredible :: Did Void My Warranty?

Sep 5, 2010

I updated my phone to the 2.2 through a link i found on a thread here. There was no disclaimer on the link saying this will void my warranty, so i went ahead with it. No that I am doing more research, it seems the I might have voided my warranty due to my impatience :/

Can anyone confirm or deny this? If it DOES void my warranty, how does verizon know that I did a downloaded update rather than an OTA update.

HTC Incredible : Scratch On Screen Voids Warranty?

Aug 6, 2010

I've been lurking while waiting for my Incredible to come in the mail- it's finally here,

I went to my local Verizon store in CT today to get a case for my phone. The sales assistant tried to push me into getting a screen protector too, but I'd rather buy them online so I declined. She kind of snootily replied that if I end up scratching the screen because I don't have a protector, it's considered physical damage and that voids the warranty on the phone. Does this make any sense to you guys?

So since I got the phone on Thursday, at random, I'll get these popup crash messages, that say "The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly" it has a "Force Close" button, which doesn't seem to change anything other than to acknowlege the message.It will happen at random, sometimes while I'm on the home screen, or sending a text message, but more recently, as I was trying to manage & link contacts. When I searched for this message it seemed to be related to people using Gmail, but I always get this message when I'm doing other things and not even touching my Gmail account.

Android :: Remote Service Process Persists - I.e. Won't Disappear From Process Table

Feb 21, 2009

At a certain point in my program, when I'm completely done with my service, my activity executes unbindService() and stopService() -- yet the process persists. I can tell that it persists because I run "ps" in "adb -e shell":

CODE:.............

"adb logcat", I can show you the sequence of events:

ACTIVITY: context.unbindService(serviceConnection);

SERVICE: onUnbind();

ACTIVITY: stopService(serviceIntent); & returns true!

SERVICE: onDestroy();

First, my activity calls unbindService(serviceConnection). According to the documentation, unbindService() will "Disconnect from an application service. You will no longer receive calls as the service is restarted, and the service is now allowed to stop at any time." So that is fine, and it is happening.

Appropriately, we see the onUnbind() call happen on the service side. According to the documentation, onUnbind() is called when "all clients have disconnected from a particular interface published by the service." So this confirms the correct service connection is being passed, and that the service is responding accordingly.

Next, my activity calls stopService(serviceIntent), and returns true. According to the documentation, stopService() does the following: "If there is a service matching the given Intent that is already running, then it is stopped and true is returned; else false is returned." Again, this is happening and returning true.

In response, the service's onDestroy() method is called. According to the documentation, onDestroy() is "Called by the system to notify a Service that it is no longer used and is being removed. The service should clean up any resources it holds (threads, registered receivers, etc) at this point. Upon return, there will be no more calls in to this Service object and it is effectively dead."

At this point I expect the process to disappear from the process table. Yet it remains indefinitely. But why?

Also, the process is so persistent that I can bind to it again, and I see that it is the same exact process responding because the PID (process ID) is the same!

Samsung Moment :: Getting Process Com.google.process.gapps Stoped Unexpectedly

Apr 17, 2010

I've searched around the forums (here and SDX forums) and although it seems the few people that had this issue were able to solve it, my case seems a bit different.

It's different because of the people I've read solving the issue, it was a problem with something they changed / removed with gmail / gmail storage or talk / talk storage. And when they cleared the cache or re-installed the problem went away. Also, it seemed that the same people had a problem with downloading from the market...

Neither of the above apply to me, but yet I'm still getting this FC error all the time!

I was helping a friend with their CL14 Moment out of the box...and went from stock 1.5 CL14 to 2.1 DD03 w/Joey recovery to EclairDD10 and v5 root. I then did the streaming media fix, and then the private app (build.prop) fix (all previously done with my phone no problems). I did all of these update right in a row, and after my last re-boot the FC error (process com.google.process.gapps has stoped unexpectedly) started showing up and won't go away.

The only .apk / odex files I removed were the preloaded Sprint apps

Does anybody have any other ideas on how I can get this FC error to stop? I've tried clearing the cache / data for all the mail / talk apps, rebooted, cleared dalvik cache...

HTC Hero :: Regarding Warranty And Various Regional Versions

Sep 21, 2009

I am very interested in purchasing a Hero but am not sure if I should wait till I move to Taiwan in a few months or do it while I am in the US.How does the purchase location of HTC devices affect their warranty? Does rooting really void your warranty? Can't it be restored before returning to HTC if it's bootable? Some places (like Amazon) have the "international version with no warranty. What's that about?Can someone please explain the different "versions" that are available. How do the languages and input methods differ? What about app availability in the different regions? In Taiwan, the hero is 20000 TWD = $617 USD from the HTC store. It's about $580 shipped from Expansys.I'd prefer to buy it while in the US because of the ability to receive extended buyer protection via an AMEX or other credit card. But if it breaks, I wanna take it to HTC in Taiwan. Am I dreaming?

HTC Hero :: Repairs Under Warranty - Charges

Aug 2, 2010

I am sending my HTC Hero (Orange UK) back to HTC for them to tinker with it as it has had absolutely terrible reception for pretty much the entire time that i have owned it.

I had been waiting with each new OS to see if the problem would be fixed. The problem is that the signal fluctuates wildly without manipulating the phone, it will cut out whilst i am on the phone and just resting it on a table it will lose signal for perhaps a few minutes each half hour.

Spoke to Orange on the phone and they said to send it in for repairs to HTC.

Now, my phone has a two cosmetic bumps on it - one graze on the top corner and a tiny gouge on the bottom corner. These are purely cosmetic and I am sure that these have nothing to do with the problem, as it existed before those accidents.

I guess what I am looking for are your experiences with HTC repairs - are they the sort of firm who look for any excuse to claim that you caused the damage and void your warranty?

If they do claim that the signal problem is my fault, is the burden on me to prove that I did not cause it, or them to prove that I did?

HTC Droid Eris :: Voids Manufacturer's Warranty?

May 3, 2010

first off, let me say "Hi". got my Eris about 3 months ago and been lurking ever since . i've enjoyed reading just about every single page of all the stickied threads -fascinating stuff. you all seem pretty Knowledgeable (OTD, Caddyman, etc) and look forward to reading you thoughts on this. Here's the scenario:i have an Eris and my girlfriend has an EnV2 she will soon be upgrading to the Incredible. she suggested we swap phones once she gets the Inc, since she doesn't really need all that extra fancy stuff -i reluctantly agreed so yesterday, just for kicks, i brought this up to a store tech and she said that wouldn't be a problem, but once the phone comes off the original account it was activated on, the manufacturer voids the 1-year warranty ergo i wouldn't have a warranty on the Inc, nor would she have one on the Eris post swap. does this sound crazy, or is it just me? secondly, would it really be as simple as i imagine? just swapping phones & switching ESN's on our respective accounts once her Inc is activated?

Nexus :: Headphone Jack / Warranty Repair

I finally figured out that something us up with the headphone jack. Loose I guess? Plugged in my N1 and it was just fine. No skipping. SO, now I've got to do something that I just really can't stand going though, and that is getting warranty repair or replacement. Anyone know how long it takes for a repair? I really don't want to hear her complain for a week when she doesn't have her phone. If they go the route of sending me a new one, I know I'll have to pony up my debit card number but do they actually "hold" the funds? As in not available to me? Or do they just take the number in case you don't send the dysfunctional one back?
