Ok so I know if you Root you phone you lose your warranty. But is there a way to unroot and would that get your warranty back? How would Verizon know that I Rooted my phone?

I should "root" my Droid X phone, something ive not heard of before -
1) does this void the manufacturer warranty, or the $6/month im paying for verizon accidental damage warranty
2) is there a way to restore the original settings on the phone, ie make it like the root never happened if i need to? so i dont lose warranty?
Everyone is always so concerned about unrooting, removing su, removing busybox, etc., and so-forth. Well, finally an extremely simply solution. Almost too simple. Go to the Market and install SholesMod Updater. Sure it's $5, but it does it all for ya. Just install the application like any other, then open it. Select "Stock 2.0.1 (No root)" and let it do it's thing. And no one is the wiser. Hope this puts some minds at ease.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've changed my Moto Droid to the Droid Incredible, I will miss and keep Moto Droid in my heart. (It also made me realize iPhone was just a platonic relationship). I'm selling it off to offset cost. It's already deactivated, I've been trying to use the Rom Manager to download a stock image but it keeps failing, apparently it doesn't want to use Wifi (tried in airplane mode too). Even then the version it downloads is rooted. I'd like to reset/wipe the phone down to 2.1 or 2.0.1 and a way to make sure OTA will work when it gets activated. How can I do this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI used DroidMod to root when I had 2.01. When 2.1 became available, I "un-rooted" then forced update to 2.1. Well to be honest, it is really slow and laggy. I now want to go back to DroidMod, but nothing I have tried seems to work.

Seems like every forum I find is either 9,000 posts of people talking about completely unrelated subjects or is for the Moto Droid. I would think there would be a program out there that would do this automatically by now.

For example, yesterday i took a picture on a trip, and on the ride home, went to look at the picture in my gallery, and under the picture it read Dayton, Ohio. It knew where I took the picture!
Anyways enough of my droid love, i've got some questions for you droid gurus.
1. I want to root my phone so badly. Im afraid of it bricking though. But the thing is, ive done a lot of research, and it seems bricking hardly ever happens. I want to overclock and i really want some kick ass ROMS! Should i do on pc or my pro?
2. My screen, when closed, when you tap on the screen near the lower left corner, the screen taps. Like the screen is loose. I wanna take it to verizon. But i wanna root. But i want my warranty still usable.
I am curious as to how to do this. My main reason for trying this is to gain some more knowledge and be able to jump back and forth if I wanted. I may end up selling the phone and would like to know how. I searched but did not find anything that tells exactly how to do it.

I recently rooted my phone and flashed the DJdroid V1.2 ROM. I was very happy with it but found the 720p choppy. I assumed it was the ROM and that the stock froyo ROM would be flawless so unrooted and updated to the OTA ROM. I've since found its cacka on that too and want to unroot again. Why? Because I hate all the adware that flashes everywhere on my phone now its "stock". The DJDroid ROM maker has removed all that crap "Thanks to the maker". So my question is, before I blindly head back to DJDroid V1.2, are there any other ROMs that I should consider? The main thing for me is that it looks very similar to the stock ROM and has sense as I am comfortable with this arrangement.
When I got my phone, it was on Froyo 2.2 when I received it. How do I unroot my phone back to that?

I've already tried the method described in the "Guide from stock 1.5 to the latest root 2.1 thread" and that method failed. Here is the situation, I'm having an issue with my phone that is basically making it unusable, see this thread: Phone stuck in headset mode. This is my 2nd eris after having it replaced once already, and I'm going to try and use this problem as an excuse to complain my way to an upgrade. But before I go into Verizon I need to unroot my phone. I currently have a rooted v of 2.1, I'm not sure what is is called but I think it's basically a rooted version of the official OTA. I am not on Leaked.
Now after the OTA I don't know if 100% stock means 1.5 or 2.1 but basically I need it so Verizon can't see that I've voided my warranty. I am looking for an idiots guide to going back to 100% stock. As I am navigating menus and options in the Settings, I cannot simply go back one menu using the back key. For example, if I go to Settings->Battery Manager->Battery Profile Options and want to go back to the Settings screen, I cannot.
Pushing the back button does nothing and I can only go back to the Settings menu by going Home, then re-entering.
Another quirk regarding the back button is when reading emails. Using a regular email account such as Hotmail, I cannot simply read an email and go back to the inbox using the button.
It makes navigating the phone very tedious.
How do you unroot back to 2.1? I was thinking about rooting but I wanted to unroot to get 2.2 when it/if becomes available :P.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've used DMudpater before to unroot with no problems. I just did it a few minutes ago and I'm able to get past the M logo and the Eye. However, once the phone starts to load up, I get nothing but a rapid succession of FC's for every app on my phone. After the FCs, my screen is COMPLETELY BLACK except for the status bar, which shows a date of December 31, 1969 and shows a time of 7:05PM (it's actually 4:15PM where I'm at). There's no service in the status bar.

I then downloaded the 2.2 OTA and now phone is stuck on the M Logo. From my understanding I can't flash so now what to do? BTW I'm using the Terminal Emulator for rooting not ADB.

The only other dx we have that isn't rooted is a hundred miles away but i could try to fish su out of it and check the attributes on it. Anyone ponder this yet? May not be necessaryto do as froyo may wipe anyway. Then again birdman says 2.2 is patched and our 2.1 exploit doesn't work. Meaning an ota from vzw will lock us out.

View 19 Replies View RelatedI'm pretty new when it comes to rooting and whatnot, but I gave it a shot. It worked well. I currently have Cyanogen 5.0.5 on my phone and I love it! I heard that the OTA 2.1 is finally out, and I wanted to unroot and try it to compare against my ROM. I have read of ways to do this, but I think my situation is a little more unique. I attempted to revert back to stock via ROM Manager. I must have done the wrong thing, so I ended up just reinstalling the update.zip file from my SD Card. I resigned into Google and it was just like the first time I rooted. I re-downloaded ROM Manager and when I try to "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery", I get the error message: "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands." The "reboot into recovery" also does not work. I can still hold "X" and power on, but I just get the clockwork recovery menu, and end up nowhere but back to Cyanogen. I love Cyan and will probably stick with it, but nothing as far as root apps work anymore. DM also doesn't work for me anymore. When I enter recovery mode, it gives me the option to boot from update.zip, or factory reset. Would factory reset mess everything up? Any help/ideas?

If I do this, I think it would be best for her to have an unrooted Stock Droid. I did this before with a Droid I had to send in:
Unroot from Bugless .4 to Stock 2.1
But is there a 2.2 SBF to install? Or do I need to install 2.1 then wait for the update?
