Has anyone found an app that tells how much memory each program is using? Trying to find out which background apps to stop from running. Also, the other day when i was on charger I had a popup tell me the what percentage of battery usage each program was using (It was saying I was using more power than usb supplied and the battery was going to die).

I just have a question as to if this is normal or if I have a defective phone. When I got into running apps under settings its shows on the bottom (the numbers of course vary) Avail: 64+219 in 25 and Other 60mb in 4. As soon as I open then browser and go back and check it goes to Avail: 58mb+0.00b in 25 and Other: 0.00b in 4. I checked my fiancee's Moto Droid and it isn't doing this. Is it normal with the Incredible or is my phone defective?

I have developed a media player (includes a background service doing the playing, and a UI, and I access getResources(), MediaStore and things like this often).
Whenever I rotate the screen or reenter the app the total memory allocated to my process grows some 70 to 100KB. After some 6-10 rotations it is dead due to an out of memory exception.
In the meantime I have removed every static modifier to global vars, added an onDestroy function that unregisters the intents and service connection (and even puts every global var to null again :P), but still the program memory grows... and dies after a few rotations.
Given the situation I even made the program stop right after just calling setContentView, and still the memory leaks:

Is there anyway I can install apps onto the memory card rather then the phones memory as I keep getting the 'memory low' message on my phone esp when I install games/apps that are around 15mb in size.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHope you guys can help. Since the 2.1 update I have certain apps which appear to be opening in the background when I didn't open them. I have Advanced Task Killer, and when I go in for example it shows Messages running, when I kill it, it will reappear in 30 secs or so, the same with MP3 store. Can these apps be stopped so they don't take up memory or what's the deal here. Thanks for any help.

Why do so many of these things start themselves back up and is there a way to stop it?
Is there a way to toggle the apps we have on our home screens on/off? Right now I don't have a live wallpaper but when I do (I change wallpapers often), I'd like to show some people the phone colors without the icons on it.
Is there any program/widget that anyone knows of that toggles them on/off?
What does everyone use for instant messenger? The one thing I really miss from Blackberry is BBM. I've tried Google Talk, and it's OK.
View 26 Replies View RelatedI was trying to do the RUU program that so many people have used and I ran into an issue! It was started and it was preparing or looking for my bootloader then all of the a sudden it gave me an error saying something about my USB! I never touched my USB and all I see the the HTC logo. I haven't unplugged it from USB and haven't pulled the battery (don't want to kill it!) Any recommendations? I did as the program asked as well! I quit applications, turned off sleep/hibernate, etc etc!

Is there a good program to backup your all your apps, files, shortcuts, bookmarks and personal settings. I know Astro has a "backup" function but I don't know what it actually backs up. I know you can back up your contacts Google.
I guess what I'm asking is if there's a way to "clone" your Droid, not just the SD card.
I want to root my phone, I have been reading the how-to's and downloaded files. But first I need to back up my apps and programming. What program can I use the will backup the entire phone? (Note: I have my htc Incredible programmed to work on Alltel, so I want it to backup the programming too). I am good with computers, but just need a push in the right direction so if I mess up I can get my programming back and programs I bought. Without have to reset it up and re download.

just uninstall your old version of Swype, download and install the new "Evo" version (using a program like Astro) and there ya go!
This folder includes screen shots that are used for Internet Browser bookmarks. It also includes screen shots of web pages that I did not choose to bookmark. When I clear cache while in "Internet" in "Manage Applications" it does not remove these jpg files that are not being used for bookmarks. When I clear everything while in Internet app (in settings) it does not remove these jpg files either. It also does not remove them from within the HistoryEraser app. The only way I can remove the jpg files is with Astro or when connected to PC. I have to go through them and erase jpgs that I do not want there.
There were 72 jpg files in that directory and they go all the way back to when I got phone (on 4/29). I have only added 5 bookmarks myself during that time. They do not take up a lot of space but I just don't want them there.
Lately I noticed that Google maps and Google sky have been giving me bad direction information. Today I downloaded a compass app and sure enough the reading is off by almost a full 180 degrees. The program's calibrate feature didn't seem to correct the problem and I was wondering if there was a built-in way to recalibrate the magnetometer.

It also can auto silent/vibrate your phone depending on where you are or who is calling. Among lots of other options. Now I am wondering if it actually saves battery or uses more because it is always running and changing stuff.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhile having my phone activated at the local Verizon store a pop-up came on the screen. Of course the lady there said it's nothing to worry about. Well since then I noticed every time I turn the phone on and at random times I get a pop-up that says "Sorry! The process com.htc.bg has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". The only way I can close the pop-up is by pressing the "force close" button. I called HTC and they told me it's a warning for the background sync program and it's a bad phone. I called Verizon and they asked me to remove all the apps, perform a soft reset and try a factory data restore. Well after trying all things they are sending me a new phone. It's being overnighted tomorrow for Saturday morning delivery. And Verizon is actually paying for the overnight shipping which is a good thing considering it's not even a day old. The only thing that sucks is I'm gonna have to pay for another ZAGG screen protector to be installed. Hope this phone is better.
