I'm assuming its possible to unlock the Galaxy S to use on another network? What other settings would I need then once I'd inserted my Orange Sim? Just the Orange WAP settings?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had a HTC hero on the orange network so its basically a orange handset, is there anyway i can unlock it so my friend can have it and use his orange sim card in it? my local phone shop tried to unlock it but they said the place they used failed, has anyone done this successfully? before the shop had it he couldnt even access the menu with his voda simcard in but now he can but he just cant make or recieve calls theres just an cross on the signal bar and a sim card symbol with a '!'

As of now i dont have a orange sim and my hero is reset to factory settings . so i always see a screen asking me to insert sim card.
My question is can i still go ahead and downgrade my rom and install modaco 2.9 to unlock my mobile?

I'm at the beginning of my journey here and still gathering and hunting for information. I've looked around and there are lots of tutorials but none of them answer my noob questions.
Do you need to have your phone unlocked or debranded in order to root?
Will rooting the phone also unlock it?
I've found a place where they guarantee unlocking of this phone but they charge 20$US. If I can root the phone and not having to pay for that it would be great.

View 21 Replies View RelatedI got my phone on Orange UK and was wandering if anyone has managed to get the official Froyo update through Kies for a branded Orange UK Galaxy S?Every time I check Kies tells me the latest firmware is on my phone, but I'm sure I read a post from Beards stating all Galaxy S phones should be able to get the update by 11th and its the 12th now and still no update showing for me.

1. Will I need to unlock my phone before, during or after changing the Rom? I am not overly bothered by the orange stuff on my phone, but am worried about losing my WiFi connections!
2. Do I need a goldcard? Some instructions say yes, other no. None mention orange handsets specifically.
3. Which is the easiest & safest method to root my phone, if I want to put the Froyo Rom on it?
4. What if I want to change Roms - do I need to do the whole process again? I've seen something about a Rom manager, but where do you get it and how does it work?
5. Which Rom do I use? I've looked at some I'd the modacco forum ROMs, but most don't actually say what you do or don't get with them.
6. What's that difference between a2sd and a2sd+? Does it come as part of the ROM or so I news to get it separately?
I managed to unlock my HTC Tattoo which was locked to Orange UK (still locked!). Thanks to my friend who adviced to try one of those i-SmartSim 2008 SIM Card Unlock Attachment for Nokia and Most Other Cell Phones I used I-SmartSim and it works with Vodafone now!I am so happy as have all Google applications installed too.

I tried the free unlock method but u was told to turn on persha. Then when they tell you to type numbers in the diall pad to see what is locked and what is off I get the emergency calls only message what could this be.ciuld be my sim card because I did cut it diwn into a micro sim

The code was accepted (succesful?), after that screen went to my normal desktop, but after a few seconds, then it started to boot, then message showed "erasing", and phone reset to factory settings, so I lost everything. Phone seems fine now, I can make calls and dloading on wifi all apps I lost. But wondering if this was due to lates firmware, or perhaps something went wrong, and still is? I didn't see phone reseting after unlocking on any tutorial videos I watched, but again, those were made way before this lates 4.3 OS. Also, I entered the unlock code with the wifi ON, opposed to instructions.

This was alright because it was a once in a blue moon type ordeal. However, recently since I updated to 4.3 it's consistently happening more times than not. My s3 carrier is Metro PCS, it runs 4.3 as stated again.

Overall the video quality is excellent but sometimes when I'm doing indoor shooting, the video has an orange color overlay. Occasionally this will correct itself to a nice natural color part way through the video. I was wondering if this might be due to some automatic color adjustment that I'm not aware of. I did change the sim-card (and subsequent number) since first using it, but I never logged intio Kies with the old sim-card.The phone is rooted.How do I get Kies (or my Samsung phone) to show my current telephone number?In the phone properties (Menu, Settings, About, Status) the same wrong number is shown.When calling, the receiver sees the correct telephone number. Following are my questions:
1. Right now I have about a thousand google contacts synced to my phone. I want to remove them at one go. I know how to disable them from being appearing in contact list, but I want to know if I can delete them without going to factory settings.
2. I am using three applications (a) Gmail (b) Contacts (3) MVOIP. I want to know if there is a way that following combination works:
a- Google contacts appear on Gmail app
b- Google contacts (with phone numbers) and normal phone contacts appear on "Contacts"
c- Google contacts (with phone numbers) and normal phone contacts appear on "MVOIP application".
I know how to do
(a) - By synchronising google contacts,
(b) - by choosing display options
(c) - I do not know how to handle this and I want help.
I really like the samsung wave phone design, very stylish and slick! but i dont like the bada os on the other hand i like galaxy s os but i dont like its phone design, so iphone like.

People have been suggesting to get the Samsung Galaxy S, that's also out of my budget and looks too much like an iPhone. So i stumbled upon these two phones.I'm leaning more towards the Spica because it has superior battery life, and 800mhz compared to the 528mhz the i7500 has. and it can also play DivX.What's making it a difficult decision is the i7500 has an AMOLED Screen. It can display 16,777,216 Colors while the Spica can only display 65,536 Colors I'm not too sure if that will make a difference. Also it has 5mp w/LED Flash while Spica is only 3.2.One phone has a little of both. This will be my first Android phone I'm coming from a Sony Ericsson W995.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently picked up a Samsung Galaxy S Captivate (Android 2.1) on Rogers Wireless. I've been having an issue with the wifi on it, it only works intermittently when I'm at home. It will connect to my network without issues, but none of the data-enabled apps can access anything, they just time out. While this is happening my old iPhone (recent android convert) and my Nintendo Wii are able to connect flawlessly. This ONLY happens when I'm at home on my own network from what I've seen, when I'm on the wifi at my work everything works fine. Has anyone seen issues like this or have any suggestions as to what may be causing it? FYI I have tried different wifi channels, currently my router is setup to use TKIP on WPA2 for encryption.

However I quickly discovered it wasn't when my Orange Sim worked in it and no T mobile apps or logos appeared on my phone. I already have a Samsung Glaxaxy from Orange so instantly knew that my new phone from ebay was not up to date.As you can see one of my phones is running the latest firmware but the other one isn't AND also says it cannot be updated. What is going on? Has the seller messed with my phone or something?I am not interested in getting Froyo on either of my phones. I will get that when it is officially released. All I want is the ebay phone to be able to be updated. I have tried everything suggested on this forum including changing the product code. I tried to change it on the phone, no product codes were listed as a choice, I also changed the registry but nothing works. Have I got a dud phone because surely my T Mobile phone (which somehow allows an orange sim to work) can get JM3 update by now?

Awesome. loved it.Sorted my wi fi out etc Only problem is, I've turned Wi Fi off now but the 3g internet is still on and uploading and downloading when I am not even on a website. View 8 Replies View RelatedI just pre-ordered mine from the UK and I was wondering if I will able to use it on Tmobile's 3g in the US. I am so confused about all the frequencies! I would hate it if I have to stick with using EDGE on it. Also I did a little snooping around and it seems like the galaxy S will be coming to the US later this year...on all 4 major carriers? So is it correct to assume that the phone will work on Tmobile 3g or are they going to sell different carrier exclusive models so that it will work on each individual network?
